Chapter 434 Increased Pressure
Galaxy District, 280 miles of desolate land.
A procession of dark figures moved steadily forward.
At the rear of the group, several mutated creatures were bound in chains, bleeding profusely.
There were wolves with long fangs and horses with blood-red eyes.
And a massive lizard, nearly 25 feet long.
These enormous beasts were being dragged by two men in suits, using iron chains.
These men had strength far beyond that of ordinary people, as the combined weight of these creatures was easily close to ten thousand pounds!
At the front of the procession.
Eight men in black suits carried a wooden platform.
On the platform's lounge chair, a young man with golden hair sat lazily.
His clothes were spotless, and he was meticulously trimming his nails with a golden nail clipper.
"Number 4, go give those beasts another shot. We don't want them dying before we get back to the base."
The young man glanced at the mutated beasts behind him. "After all, I broke a nail catching them."
"Yes, Vice President."
One of the men in black nodded, pulled out a syringe, and walked toward the beasts.
The young man with golden hair sighed. "This sun is going to ruin my skin."
He raised a hand to shield his eyes from the sun and looked out at the barren land ahead.
"At least we're not far from that village."
"Once I capture those humanoid monsters, I can go back to the base and take a nice bath!"
With that, he squinted his eyes, leaned back in the chair, and closed his eyes to rest.
Suddenly, the procession came to a halt.
The platform's movement jolted the young man awake. He opened his eyes, annoyed.
In the distance, on the horizon, stood numerous figures like iron towers.
Each of them was ten feet tall, wearing military green vests.
On their chests was a golden badge—an X.
"We've been hunting you for a long time!"
Among the towering figures, a man with fiery red eyebrows shouted, his voice carrying across the vast distance to the men in black.
"Veridiania people?"
The young man with golden hair seemed intrigued. "So, the group of cyborgs that's been harassing our branch these past few days is you?"
"That's right!"
The man with red eyebrows took a step forward. "You won't get away with this anymore. Today, we, the X-Apex Guardians, will put an end to you!"
The young man with golden hair sneered. "Idiots, do you even know who I am?"
The man with red eyebrows' eyes flickered. "Of course we do! Apocalypse Association, Vice President of the Second Branch, Gallup Adams!"
"Oh?"
"You've got some skills to find that out."
Gallup sat up straight, his gaze icy. "Since you know, you can only die here!"
"Arrogant!"
In the next moment, 283 figures soared into the sky!
They charged straight at the men in black!
Meanwhile, Elbert stood before a massive cave.
A faint scent of blood wafted from within.
He could see that the cave was empty, save for some bloodstains on the ground.
Elbert frowned.
Jace's map appeared in his mind.
According to the map, there should have been a mutated lizard here.
A massive, ferocious creature!
But it was gone.
Elbert was puzzled.
He hadn't followed Jace's advice to avoid all dangers.
Instead, he had deliberately passed through, wanting to study these creatures!
According to Robert, they might find ways to optimize the absorption of nuclear radiation from these creatures!
But as Elbert walked, he discovered something unsettling.
These creatures had all disappeared!
The mutated wolves and wild horses, not a single one left!
All had been taken!
And now it seemed more like they had been captured!
Thinking of the mutated giant rats and moths, Elbert's frown deepened.
Even such small creatures, after prolonged nuclear radiation exposure, had become incredibly powerful.
So how strong would these lizards and wolves, already fierce animals, become?
Could someone have the strength to defeat them one by one?
Elbert shook his head and continued walking.
There were only 30 miles left to the stone coffin.
Known as the absolute death zone.
This place was extremely barren, the intense radiation preventing any plants from growing, and killing them outright!
Elbert's footsteps stirred the soil.
A swarm of bullet-sized red ants emerged from the ground.
Their massive jaws were like small pincers, sharp and menacing.
These were mutated ants.
But the ants didn't attack Elbert; instead, they gathered more and more, circling him.
Robert's voice crackled through the communicator: "They can sense the radiation on you. They want to feed, but they're too scared to get close."
Elbert nodded slightly.
He hadn't expected that in this area of the strongest radiation, where no large creatures could survive, these tiny ants had managed to thrive.
He continued walking.
A swarm of ants followed!
Elbert saw the remains of a giant beast by the roadside.
The flesh had been gnawed clean!
Elbert instantly realized that this must have been the ants' prey!
No matter how strong you are, you can't withstand the gnawing of thousands of ants!
These ants had not only survived but had become the rulers of this place!
Elbert looked at the ground.
For now, he could still intimidate these ants!
But they were constantly testing, constantly approaching!
Elbert was ready. If the ants made a move, he would have to release some nuclear radiation again!
In the wasteland.
Elbert moved cautiously, surrounded by a dense swarm of ants, waiting for an opportunity!
Ahead, the ruins of Galaxy District were faintly visible!
Tall buildings, giant chimneys, crumbling walls, a scene of desolation!
And the most striking of all was the massive, over a thousand feet tall, semi-circular structure made of reinforced concrete, the stone coffin!
Its nearly 20-foot-thick walls isolated the nuclear reactor inside, blocking the immense radiation!
No one had ever entered, and machines couldn't return.
Nuclear waste had been abandoned inside!
The radiation there was the strongest on the surface.
If any creature could survive in there, it must have mutated to an unimaginable degree, becoming a terrifying existence!
About ten thousand feet from the stone coffin.
The ants on the ground suddenly stopped moving!
Elbert cautiously moved forward, only to see the ants retreating!
They were scared!
When Elbert reached about six thousand feet, the ant swarm seemed panicked!
They all dug into the soil and disappeared!
Elbert looked at the towering stone coffin ahead.
His heart was filled with immense pressure!
