Chapter 397 Recuperating
Elbert felt an overwhelming sense of awe.
The old man with the white eyebrows had said just a few casual words, but they sparked endless imagination.
He sensed a vast, hidden world lurking in the shadows.
The ancient civilizations the old man mentioned weren't secrets; there were various records online.
But those were all speculations by later generations.
Undeniably, they did exist and once flourished!
Who knows what extraordinary skills and technologies they might have possessed!
As for the Earth's core and the deepest parts of the ocean, current technology is limited and hasn't truly explored them.
This blue planet beneath our feet is vast.
Human understanding of it is less than one percent.
Countless earth-shattering secrets might have existed for thousands of years, undisclosed for some reason!
Could there really be such mysterious life forms?
Otherwise, how would he explain those fragments of his own memories?
Suddenly, Elbert realized that, as the old man said, he had been somewhat arrogant, thinking himself invincible.
Unbeknownst to him, those truly formidable beings might be viewing this world as a sandbox.
Elbert became serious in an instant.
He felt that the old man before him was not as simple as he appeared.
Could he really be the previous Savior?
Elbert asked with some reverence, "Sir, how do you know all this?"
The old man pointed to a table in the distance, where an old radio sat. "Ever heard of the show 'Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey'?"
Elbert was stunned.
"But I never said any of this was false!"
"In any case, you're very weak right now, understand?"
The old man clasped his hands behind his back and paced around the room, then suddenly turned back, "Kid, got any money?"
Elbert was taken aback.
He usually didn't carry cash.
Right now, he only had the clothes on his back and a dead phone, which had survived thanks to its liquid metal casing.
Elbert shook his head slightly.
"Another loss-making deal."
The old man waved his hand, "Garry, put him in the hut where we store firewood. He can have enough food, but only the bare minimum—vegetable porridge."
"Room costs $20 a day, food $10 a day, put it on the tab."
Garry skillfully pulled out a ledger, "Yes, Master."
Elbert frowned again!
This Savior seemed a bit eccentric.
"What?"
"Not satisfied?"
The old man turned to look at Elbert.
"No."
Elbert smiled slightly, "Do you have a charger here, or could I borrow a phone to contact my friends? I don't want to impose."
"Sorry, Elbert, we don't have any of that here."
Garry scratched his head, "Master hates the internet and forbids anyone from using it. The radio is the most advanced technology in the temple."
Elbert nodded slightly, just great!
This Savior was like those illegal modification organizations, rejecting the internet!
"Kid, your task now is to heal, understand?"
The old man pointed outside, "I have guest rooms, superior rooms, and main rooms here, and fish and meat, but you have no money!"
"Staying for free is out of the question!"
"Don't say I didn't give you a chance!"
The old man shouted towards the door, "Disciples!"
Four burly men with shaved heads rushed in from outside.
They had strong builds, bronze skin, and their exposed muscles faintly glistened!
They looked like warrior monks!
"These are my disciples, Peaceful Heart, Serene Mind, Mindful Spirit, and Pure Light!"
The old man stood proudly before his disciples. "Kid, beat Peaceful Heart, and you can stay in the guest room for free. Beat Serene Mind, and you can stay in the superior room for free. Beat Mindful Spirit, and you can stay in the main room for free. Beat Pure Light, and you can eat fish and meat for free!"
"You should know, my superior room costs $100 a day!"
"But I think you can't even beat... oh, you can't even beat the temple sweeper!"
Elbert felt helpless. Was this Savior really that short on money?
Elbert insisted, "Is there nowhere nearby where I can borrow a phone?"
The old man chuckled, "There is, from tourists!"
Elbert perked up, "Where are the tourists?"
"Sadly, we haven't had a tourist in three years!"
"I'm living a hard life, short on money!"
The old man looked pitiful.
Elbert was speechless. Wonderful! Just wonderful!
But it wasn't surprising. If you put up a sign saying there's a 140-year-old Savior in the temple, who would come?
"So."
"I can only charge you as much as possible."
"Remember to settle the bill when you're healed."
"Oh, and the math problem I explained earlier, that's $30."
The old man paced slowly. "But, considering we're both Saviors, I'll give you a break."
Then, the old man shouted towards the door, "Rachel Nguyen!"
A young woman in a simple green dress walked in.
She had a delicate face, cherry lips, and long, beautiful eyes.
Her face was free of makeup, her hair smooth and loose. Despite her simple attire, it couldn't hide her perfect figure.
She gave off the impression that if she appeared in the city, she would attract countless admirers as a top beauty.
Now, in this remote mountain temple, she looked like a fashion model who had returned to simplicity, becoming a fresh and elegant presence, the brightest color in the mountains.
Her aura could handle both a sexy evening gown and make this simple green dress look vibrant!
"This is my secular disciple, from a prominent family in Celestria City, now practicing in the temple."
"Kid, she'll take care of your daily needs from now on!"
"Daily medical care costs $800."
The old man nodded to himself.
Elbert was speechless again. He couldn't move and had to let others take care of him!
"I'll take Elbert to the hut first; he needs to rest and heal!"
Garry chuckled, carrying Elbert on his shoulder and heading out, with Rachel following behind.
As they passed the others, the old man chuckled, "Kid, I think your injuries won't heal in less than two or three months!"
"Don't worry, I'll give you a chance."
"You can challenge my four disciples anytime."
"Defeat one, and your room and treatment will upgrade!"
Elbert carefully observed the four warrior monks.
Suddenly, his combat instincts tingled!
There was something special about them!
They didn't have the genetic mutations and aggression of modified humans, but were instead gentle and restrained!
But their energy levels, if compared to modification levels, were at least H-level!
And that might not even be accurate!
Elbert was puzzled. These nameless warrior monks in the mountains were stronger than Summer?
Peaceful Heart smiled warmly, "Elbert, don't worry, I'm easy to beat, one hit and I'm down!"
