Chapter 440 Obsession

Elbert stepped out slowly.

Quentin's eyes lit up, like he was seeing a long-lost family member.

His eyes instantly welled up with emotion.

Quentin rushed over, ready to hug Elbert, but suddenly hesitated, realizing it might be inappropriate.

He covered his mouth with his fist and said in a low voice, "I was worried you might be in danger here, so I stayed up in the trees watching over you for two days and nights!"

"Now that you're safe, I can finally relax."

Elbert smiled warmly, "Why didn't you stay in Yulia Village?"

Quentin's body trembled, "That village is terrifying, they're all monsters!"

Elbert shook his head.

He figured Quentin must have snapped out of his hallucinations, couldn't handle the shock, and came looking for him, but was forced to stay in the trees due to the radiation from the stone coffin.

Elbert decided not to mention it. He smiled, "Shall we go?"

Inside the Celestial Pioneer.

Quentin sat on the ground, visibly relaxed. Even though he had fainted, it was better than staying in that dreadful wasteland!

"Paul Three, the villagers of Yulia Village, you're not afraid of them?"

Elbert smiled slightly, "They may look ugly, but they're kind-hearted, not scary at all."

Quentin recalled the past few days.

The villagers in that small village had taken care of him meticulously.

Quentin's expression softened, "Yeah, they were pretty nice."

"But." A hint of fear appeared on Quentin's face again, "This place is crawling with monsters, I've encountered several! We need to leave quickly, if another one shows up, I don't think my heart can take it!"

Suddenly, a low growl came from behind Quentin.

Quentin froze, "Paul Three, why are you growling?"

Elbert was focused on studying the various monitoring instruments of the Celestial Pioneer. "I didn't growl."

Quentin felt something was wrong and slowly turned around.

His face turned pale instantly!

A 15-foot-tall beast was sitting in the corner behind him, its eyes blood-red, and it poked Quentin's shoulder with a black claw.

"Oh my God!"

"What is that?"

Quentin couldn't believe there was something else inside the spaceship!

He scrambled away, his head spinning!

Elbert calmly said, "This is Willow. Stay calm."

"It's a monster!"

Quentin was terrified. He had been through too many scares in the past few days, and his strength was forgotten, leaving only panic!

Elbert sighed, "It's a treasure. First, it's incredibly powerful, the king of this radiation zone."

"Second, it gave birth to healthy offspring."

"I think it might have a way to neutralize the radiation. I need to study it to treat the villagers of Yulia Village."

"The priority now is to get back to the Lab Graveyard."

Quentin's eyes widened, trying to suppress his inner fear.

This 'Willow' looked terrifying!

Paul Three was also incredible, taming the beast king in just two days!

But.

He thought about the possibility of curing the kind villagers, and since Willow seemed harmless, he slowly calmed down.

"Alright, for the villagers, I'll endure it!"

Elbert smiled slightly as the Celestial Pioneer soared through the sky.

They flew 150 miles away from the stone coffin.

Suddenly, the Celestial Pioneer halted!

Elbert's expression changed, his brows furrowed tightly.

He blinked hard and looked at the screen again, his body trembling.

Without a word, he leaped out of the Celestial Pioneer.

In the desolate wasteland, there were bodies—over two hundred bodies.

Quentin arrived shortly after, his expression horrified. "These... these are the 283 Veridiania soldiers who were chasing me?"

Elbert's body was completely stiff. It was unbelievable. He couldn't hear Quentin's words at all.

How could this be? There were 283 C-class modified soldiers, loyal border guards. How could this happen?

Elbert was filled with grief and anger, unable to cry. The 283 bodies in front of him were covered in countless wounds. The wounds were all the same—thin needle-like punctures that went right through them. Such cruel methods!

Elbert was furious to the point of madness. A sliver of rationality reminded him that the identical injuries on the Apex Guardians suggested they were killed by one person. But in this desolate area, there were no surveillance devices.

"Who did this?" Elbert shouted in anger. His grief and rage erupted.

Suddenly, a trembling hand reached out from a distance.

Elbert rushed over. "Red Brow!"

It was Apex Guardian Red Brow. His body was also pierced by countless needle-like wounds, but he still had a faint breath left.

"Mr. Perry," Red Brow was extremely weak; the towering man could barely speak.

"Red Brow, hang in there!" Elbert shouted, and the Celestial Pioneer arrived in an instant.

"No need, Mr. Perry. I know my condition. I can't go anywhere," Red Brow's face was bitter. "We failed our mission. We can't go back."

"Red Brow! Don't sleep! Who did this to you?" Elbert's eyes were bloodshot.

Red Brow smiled weakly. "It's a secret mission."

Suddenly, Red Brow saw the figure behind Elbert. He raised his hand slightly, pointing at that person. "Quentin, I must defeat you."

Quentin was also filled with grief, tears in his eyes. The scene was too tragic. He knew these people weren't bad. They were disciplined and had important duties. He just didn't understand why defeating him had become their obsession.

Looking at the bodies and the dying Red Brow, Quentin felt endless bitterness. He took a few steps forward, his voice dry. "Alright, today I'll let you win."

"I am an Apex Guardian. Prepare to die."

Red Brow raised his fist, slowly aiming at Quentin's shoulder. But the fist lost its strength a few inches away from Quentin and fell to the ground. Red Brow breathed his last.

Thus, all 283 Apex Guardians perished.

Quentin's tears flowed uncontrollably. "Why didn't you finish the fight?"

No one answered.

Elbert held Red Brow's body, tears welling up, his body trembling.

The world fell silent.

In the desolate wilderness, bodies lay everywhere. The scene was bleak; these unknown warriors were left behind in a foreign land.
