Chapter 505 Fishing
Robert's voice boomed, "Elbert, the competition's on! Get ready to face my unbeatable fishing subconscious fusion!"
Elbert shook his head slightly, "Robert, not this time. Today, I'm up against Mr. Fields, and it's not about fishing."
"Not fishing? Then what?"
Robert was puzzled, "Are we seeing who can be more profound?"
Elbert's eyes sparkled, "This is a game of strategy, testing our psychology, composure, and vision. The loser will be like a small fish eaten by a big fish."
Robert said, "I don't get it!"
Elbert replied, "I'll teach you this time. Watch closely."
"OK!" Robert's virtual image appeared, transforming into a student with a desk and books, sitting upright and focused.
Meanwhile, Mr. Fields grabbed a lively shrimp from a bait box nearby.
He hooked it and looked towards Phantom Island, saying to Elbert, "Elbert, choose your bait."
Elbert nodded.
He picked a piece of dough-like solid bait and pressed it onto his hook.
Mr. Fields shook his head gently and said, "Elbert, for sea fishing, you need live bait. Otherwise, it's hard to get a catch."
Elbert relaxed and smiled, "Thanks for the tip, Mr. Fields, but I believe that in fishing, luck plays a big part. The bait isn't the most crucial thing!"
"Well said, the bait isn't crucial!"
"You young folks are indeed extraordinary!"
Mr. Fields laughed heartily, and both he and Elbert cast their lines simultaneously.
Robert asked, "What are you guys talking about?"
Elbert smiled lightly and said, "Mr. Fields' first thought was to negotiate, wanting Phantom Island to belong to Veridiania."
"His 'live bait' means I can set conditions."
Robert's eyes widened in thought, "And you refused him!"
Elbert nodded, "That's right."
Then.
Mr. Fields and Elbert sat on the rocks, not speaking, with only the sound of waves crashing against the shore.
Mr. Fields' secretary's phone kept vibrating.
He answered repeatedly with just one sentence, "Mr. Fields has important matters today, all schedules are postponed!"
Aaron observed everything.
In just a few minutes, the secretary had declined over a dozen meetings!
Mr. Fields was determined to achieve something today!
As he pondered, he looked at his daughter Melissa.
Melissa, who had grown into a graceful and charming young woman.
She had only said one thing earlier, 'Don't disturb the fish about to bite!'
Aaron suddenly understood.
Melissa had already grasped everything!
When did she become so wise and composed?
Was it just because she was with Elbert?
Did that young man have such a magical influence?
Time ticked by!
At least 40 minutes had passed!
The two fishermen had caught nothing!
No wonder, it's not easy to catch fish in these splashing waves.
But neither showed any intention of leaving.
Mr. Fields broke the silence first, "Elbert, where's your hometown?"
Elbert nodded, "I'm from a small town called Juniper Lane, about 200 miles from Wavehaven. My mom works as an accountant at a tire factory."
"A tire factory, huh? That's a solid job!"
"Yeah, can't say much about other things, but those tires..."
Mr. Fields chuckled, "Whenever foreigners see them, they have to give a thumbs up. They're top-notch!"
Elbert thought to himself, "Robert, Mr. Fields is reminding me not to forget my roots."
Robert shouted, "Sophisticated! Human language is really complex!"
Elbert looked into the distance, saying wistfully, "Homeland, mother, each must be protected with all one's heart, especially when one has the ability!"
Mr. Fields nodded, "Very good!"
"But."
Elbert continued, "This world has many restrictions. One must first have freedom to do these things better."
Mr. Fields' eyes flickered, "You're right, but 'freedom' can be interpreted in many ways!"
"For example, Phantom Island."
"It's located 24 nautical miles off Veridiania's coast, in international waters, a free entity."
"Punisher is powerful, capable of stirring up global storms!"
Mr. Fields sighed, "But for Veridiania, it's like having a tiger lying beside the bed."
"Too much freedom isn't good either."
Mr. Fields smiled again, "You can't blame me. In my position, it's not unreasonable to consider these things, right?"
Robert said, "This time I get it!"
"But speaking of which, a tiger lying down is still a tiger wherever it is, right?"
Elbert smiled slightly and said to Mr. Fields, "With today's advanced technology, crossing a few mountains is just a matter of moments. And you can also think of it this way, with a tiger lying at Veridiania's gate, who would dare to trespass?"
"You have a point!"
Mr. Fields continued, "I must say, there are indeed many hidden talents like you, protecting Veridiania under the radar!"
"For instance, the Miller family, who led in academia and technology two thousand years ago, were thought to have declined and disappeared."
"In fact, they now oversee Veridiania from a high vantage point, protecting it."
Mr. Fields winked at Elbert, "Elbert, this is a national secret, don't tell anyone."
Elbert nodded in agreement.
Mr. Fields added, "Of course, there are some you know of."
"You possess extraordinary abilities, shattered a meteor, and became the second-generation Savior."
"But before you, there was someone who did the same, the first-generation Savior, now a centenarian, living in seclusion in Celestria City's Vast Mountain!"
Elbert nodded again.
"Elbert, at 5:06, Mr. Fields said there are always people better than you, and you're not the only one! Don't get cocky!"
Robert scribbled furiously in his notebook!
At that moment.
Mr. Fields' fishing rod twitched slightly!
"Got a bite!"
Mr. Fields' spirit lifted, and he quickly reeled in, only to be disappointed!
He had caught a clump of seaweed!
Elbert shook his head with a smile, "Mr. Fields, it seems you were mistaken."
