Chapter 341 Eliminating Harm for the People
Elbert, taking a detour, arrived at the foundation wall of BioGen Innovations' testing site.
Elbert hesitated for a moment. "Robert Williams, it's my first time stealing something. I'm a bit jittery."
"Didn't you say this was about eliminating a threat?"
"Yeah, it's my first time eliminating a threat. I'm kinda nervous!"
Robert comforted, "Elbert, chill. I've scoped out the surrounding surveillance. This lab has 63 employees, and over 80 people just scrambled out. Even the rats sensed the radiation and bailed! The place is empty now!"
"Well... Robert Williams, did you block the nearby surveillance?"
"Of course."
"I still don't feel secure."
"Alright, all cameras within 10 miles are down, and Wavehaven's emergency lines are jammed for 5 minutes. Is that enough? The cops won't find you!"
"Yeah, that's better!"
2 minutes later.
Leonard's office.
"What? The emergency lines have been cut off?"
"The entire East District’s surveillance is down?"
"Damn, something big is about to go down. Must be an international crime syndicate targeting Wavehaven!"
"Quick, dispatch personnel and search the entire East District immediately!"
Leonard hung up the phone.
Cold sweat streamed down his face, panic gripping his heart!
Such a big operation, what kind of criminals are these?
Why Wavehaven of all places?
Could it be that provoking Elbert yesterday led to this revenge?
Leonard didn't have time to think, he threw on his coat and rushed out the door!
Elbert felt reassured.
With a leap, he soared 30 feet into the air, landing on the top floor of the lab.
Looking down through the skylight, he saw the vast area below strewn with bodies.
All of them dead.
And some wrecked equipment.
Elbert frowned slightly.
The modified human from earlier had lost control here and went on a killing spree.
Elbert couldn't help but think of Victoria’s ‘Hercules’ modification base.
Hopefully, BioGen Innovations just had a temporary lapse.
Otherwise, it would be another hell on earth.
Confirming there were no survivors, Elbert jumped down with a thud.
The metal experimental cabin had already been damaged in the earlier battle.
From the energy chamber at the back, two lead rods were faintly visible.
A large blood-red 'X' was printed on the rods.
Robert Williams: "Highly concentrated Polonium-210!"
Elbert slowly approached, feeling a slight tingling on his skin, and the air seemed slightly obstructed.
It looked like the Polonium-210 had leaked.
In such exposed radiation, an ordinary person would soon develop severe radiation symptoms.
Elbert looked at the lead canister and said, "Can we use it?"
Robert Williams said, "Of course! Polonium, symbol Po, is a silvery-white metal that glows in the dark. It's one of the rarest elements known, with a concentration of about one part per trillion in the Earth's crust."
"This is artificially synthesized, highly concentrated Polonium, and quite a lot of it!"
"BioGen Innovations is indeed powerful!"
Elbert nodded slightly.
With a slight exertion of his arm, he pulled the two lead canisters out of the machinery.
At this moment, he was closest to the radioactive element without any protection.
Strangely, Elbert felt a surge of heat within his body.
It seemed like something was being awakened.
Robert Williams exclaimed, "Your DNA sequence is changing! It's strong; the previous injuries are healing quickly, and there's a trend of mutation. Now, with increased radiation, they're gaining energy and showing signs of change!"
"But this won't do; the radiation is too strong. Your body can't handle it. We need to take it back and control the decay!"
Elbert suddenly fell silent.
He couldn't detect the DNA changes, but he felt a strange connection with the water droplet pendant.
Inside the pendant, something seemed to be stirring.
There was a faint force trying to break out.
Liquid metal!
Could it be that enhancing his genetic code could extract liquid metal from the water droplet pendant?
Just as Elbert was pondering, Robert Williams' voice came again, "Elbert, that huge door in the distance is also for radiation isolation. Let's see what's there!"
Elbert turned around.
In the distance, he saw a massive metal door, towering as tall as two people, tightly closed!
It bore a red 'X' symbol!
Elbert approached the door and twisted the gigantic handle.
Click, click!
The originally secured door's locks and springs shattered under the immense force!
The simplest way to break a door.
As the door swung open, Elbert was momentarily stunned.
A whole row of ten metal lead canisters!
Each marked with a red 'X' symbol!
Robert Williams, transformed into an excited archaeologist, bounced around in view.
"These are all Polonium-210!"
"My God!"
"BioGen Innovations is truly impressive."
"Look at all this!"
Robert Williams pondered, "There's only one explanation! Polonium-210 is a naturally occurring radioactive element in the uranium series, coexisting with uranium in pitchblende, hidden in the 'three wastes' of mineral extraction!"
"With this amount, BioGen Innovations must have contracted the pitchblende mines of the Northern Hemisphere!"
"Extracting this much Polonium would take at least ten years!"
"Elbert, we did it!"
"But this is also quite terrifying!"
"If this Polonium undergoes nuclear fusion, it could blow up half the Earth!"
Elbert pursed his lips slightly.
This was a real curveball!
BioGen Innovations was way more powerful than he’d ever imagined!
How could a small company amass so many radioactive elements?
There had to be some official backing!
BioGen Innovations was definitely daring, stashing so much Polonium—they really intended to create a modified human army!
"Yeah."
"We can’t let them keep this up!"
"All this stuff has to go!"
Elbert muttered to himself.
Robert Williams: "Yeah! I get it, if there's enough reason, stealing is just eliminating a threat to the public!"
"Heh."
Elbert didn’t say a word.
He grabbed some protective suit fragments from the ground and wrapped the lead canisters.
Suddenly.
Elbert noticed a computer screen flickering in the distance!
He hesitated for a moment, then approached and started typing!
The data on the hard drive instantly appeared!
But it was all about radiation-modified humans.
Robert Williams had only one comment on these methods: trash, outdated, useless!
However, as for any other conspiracies BioGen Innovations might have.
And the mysteries Elbert had about his father, there was nothing here!
Robert Williams asked gloomily, "I always find it strange! Why don’t these modification institutions use the internet?"
"Are they guarding against me?"
Elbert frowned, "Robert Williams, this world is very strange. We can’t consider ourselves invincible!"
Saying this, Elbert gently touched the water droplet pendant on his chest.
This was indeed a huge mystery!
