Chapter 37 Just a Money Game
"Elbert, where did you..."
Mary quickly covered Susan's mouth, afraid she might spill the beans.
Gritting her teeth, Mary whispered in Elbert's ear, "Elbert, are you crazy? Are you still raising the stakes? Do you have 5 million? Are you trying to get us killed?"
Elbert ignored her and smiled at Bryan. "Your turn."
The game on this table was known as Big A in the underground casino. It was essentially what people called Texas Hold'em—a card game where the highest hand wins.
"Interesting. Someone trying to show off?" Bryan got interested and checked his cards again. He had a straight flush of hearts. The odds of getting such a hand were extremely low, almost a guaranteed win. Plus, he had already bribed the casino dealer. The casino dealer would make sure he gets the higher scores.
Bryan arrogantly stretched out his hand and said, "6 million."
"Raising by a hundred each time is so boring, isn't it?" Elbert smiled faintly. "20 million."
When Mary heard this, her heart jumped to her throat. Elbert had gone mad. Susan was frantically tugging at Elbert's sleeve under the table. Elbert still ignored her and smiled at Bryan. "Are you in or out?"
"You really know how to bluff." Bryan chuckled lightly. "Your trick was so shallow."
At this point, whoever folded would lose all the money they had bet so far. He thought Elbert was trying to keep raising to scare him off.
"Fine, I'll play along. 25 million."
"100 million," Elbert said plainly.
When he said that, the room suddenly went silent.
"Did I hear that right? This guy bet 100 million?"
"Who is this guy?"
Bryan was also stunned.
'He wasn't playing by the rules. Such a big leap? From 25 million to 100 million? All my savings added up to only 300 million. At this rate, I'd be out in three rounds. I originally planned to play with a few tens of millions. How did it suddenly jump to hundreds of millions?'
He started analyzing.
'Wait. Something's wrong.' Bryan suddenly slammed the table, pointing at Elbert's nose. "You almost scared me, kid. You say 100 million. Do you believe I would buy it? "
Mary gasped. That idiot figured it out. Elbert obviously didn't have the money; he was just bluffing with those millions and billions. Just a moment ago, Mary still had a glimmer of hope that Elbert's show would scare Bryan off. Now, they were exposed.
Mary quickly thought on her feet and shouted, "Bryan, show some respect. Elbert is the Brown Family's son-in-law. Forget 100 million; he could easily pull out 1 billion."
"Cut the crap. I want a fund verification." Bryan said, waving over to the casino manager.
Large casinos like this have deep cooperation with banks. Verifying someone's assets for them was a simple task.
"No, there is no need to do that." Mary stood aggressively in front of the casino manager. She knew very well that if they verified, they were done for.
"Mary, calm down." Elbert remained indifferent, pulling a bank card from his pocket and handing it to the casino manager. "Go ahead, verify it; no password is needed."
The manager nodded slightly, took the card, and went to the counter for an online check.
"We're doomed."
"Mary, we'll fight our way out. You run first; I'll cover."
"No, no, let's call the police."
The two girls were panicking, thinking of ways to escape. Bryan was also looking smug. He had just taken a look at Elbert's bank card. A regular bank card.
'Ridiculous. If he really had billions in assets, at least it would be a platinum card. So, this guy was just pretending to be rich. Trying to mess with me? You bet 100 million; let's see how you cash that out. Neither of the Brown Family girls would escape today.' he thought to himself.
Five minutes later, the casino manager walked back slowly, his face twitching with excitement unnoticed by anyone.
"Mr. Perry, here is your card. We've completed the verification." The casino manager bowed at a 90-degree angle, handing over the card with trembling hands. "Additionally, to welcome Mr. Perry, our casino has specially opened a Black Diamond VIP account for you. We hope you visit often."
"Black Diamond VIP?"
"The highest I've heard of is Gold VIP; what is this?"
Some spectators were puzzled.
"Is he legit?" Bryan asked anxiously.
The casino manager hesitated. "Mr. Perry's 100 million bet is fully valid."
'Did he really have 100 million in assets?' Bryan was shocked.
Mary and Susan were also stunned.
"Elbert, you really have money? 100 million? And the 5 million? You..."
"How did you..."
The two girls were speechless.
"Can't I be rich?" Elbert smiled, turning to Bryan. "So Bryan, are you in or out?"
"I'm going all in with you today." Bryan gritted his teeth. "110 million."
"I don't believe you can pull out 200 million."
"300 million and no reveal," Elbert's calm voice echoed again.
"What?"
"He tripled it to 300 million?"
The room was in an uproar.
"Does this guy have enough assets?" Bryan was confused, looking at the casino manager. The manager, suppressing his excitement, nodded slowly. Bryan was stunned. This was 300 million, his entire fortune. Was he betting his life?
But... There was no turning back now. He had to go all in.
"Damn it. Alright, kid, you have guts. I don't believe this. Wait here, and I'll get the money. I'm going to crush you with cash." Bryan was hysterical. He started calling everyone he could—siblings, rich friends, even his parents' friends. Anyone he could borrow from; he called them all.
Five minutes later, Bryan's eyes were bloodshot, and he slammed his phone on the table.
"1 billion. Let's see how you match that, you broke loser. I've pulled all my connections and borrowed 1 billion. I'm going to ruin you."
The room was silent. Everyone was stunned.
Mary and Susan, despite their wealthy backgrounds, were just recent graduates. They had never seen such a scene. To them, Elbert was just a penniless guy relying on women. He was supposed to pretend to be aloof and scam money from his family.
'How was he now betting billions at a poker table? But the reality seems to indicate that he was capable and rich. He was able to pull out 500 million. But now what? The opponent had just raised to 1 billion. Doubled it. The opponent was from a wealthy family in the Wavehaven. And Elbert? Iron Four had checked; he had no background. His mother was just a regular worker in a small town. He couldn't possibly have that much money. Things had gone too far to back out.' They thought with a confusing expression.
"10 billion, still no reveal." In the quiet room, Elbert's voice was like a thunderclap, exploding in everyone's minds.
And the casino manager, tears in his eyes, consistently nodded.
