Chapter 85 Rex's Final Counterattack

The next morning, in front of the main building of the Brown Family estate, Lori stood with two sleepy girls by her side. They had prepared a suite for Elbert and waited all night at the door, but Elbert never came back.

Meanwhile, all the major news headlines were about the two concerts from yesterday, which were unprecedentedly explosive:

"The FutureTech Group's colossal failure! Spent $500 million to create a super concert, only to hire a fake performer!"

"Paul spotted at a small seaside orphanage, drawing a crowd of 100,000, an unprecedented spectacle!"

"Paul's new song breaks all major charts again!"

"Paul's duet with disabled orphans moves tens of thousands of audiences!"

"Paul's actions spark a strong social reaction, focusing attention on missing children and child beggars!"

"Authorities begin a major crackdown on street begging, vowing to eradicate criminal gangs!"

"Charity campaign: Millions nationwide donate to charity hospitals to help impoverished patients!"

In the FutureTech Group office, a shareholder slammed a newspaper heavily in front of Rex. On the newspaper were two side-by-side pictures: one of Rex standing alone on the luxurious stage of Dawnlight Plaza, looking dejected; the other of a figure in white playing the piano on the rooftop of a dilapidated three-story building, with countless spectators below.

The headline read: "The $500 million worth concert of The FutureTech can't compare to Paul alone with a piano!"

"Rex, you need to give me a good explanation for this!" the shareholder demanded angrily.

Rex shrugged nonchalantly, "Explanation? There's nothing to explain! I was deceived as well!"

"Rex, what kind of attitude is this? You disappoint me greatly!" Mr. Brown sat at the head of the table, frowning. "Fortunately, there's still Lori's performance. She and Elbert have helped us recover a lot of losses!"

"Elbert? That hypocrite?" Rex sniffed. "If it weren't for my initial promotion, there wouldn't have been so many people watching their lousy show!"

"Rex!" Mr. Brown's face turned red. "I'll say it again: you need to adjust your attitude!"

Rex shrugged again, his mind full of his revenge plan. He no longer cared about the company's status or performance.

What he cared about now was only Elbert; he wanted to destroy him so badly.

"Rex, I think you're not in a good state." Mr. Brown left his seat and turned his back. "How about you go home and rest for a few days? Don't worry about the company for now. Since Jessica had an accident, you can take care of her for a few days. As for when you can return to work, wait for my notification!"

Rex's face showed indifference. "Are you suspending me? Fine, do whatever you want!" He got up and slammed the door as he left.

"He is getting more and more outrageous!"

"Yeah, he made a mistake, doesn't admit it, and his attitude is so bad!"

"Mr. Brown, you should discipline your son-in-law!"

The shareholders were all talking. Mr. Brown was shaking with anger. But what they didn't know was that after leaving the meeting room, Rex didn't leave the company. Instead, he went straight to an elevator.

After entering several numbers on the keypad, a blue keyboard slowly extended from the wall. Rex smirked and entered 'M-069' on the keyboard. The elevator started descending directly underground: B1, B2, B3, until the display showed B4.

If any of the FutureTech Group employees saw this, they would be dumbfounded! They thought the building, used by the FutureTech Group for three years, didn't have a B4 floor. Only executives above the vice president level knew B4 was the secret department set up by the FutureTech Group, specifically for collaborating with the military on human modification research—' M'!

On the B4 floor, as soon as the elevator doors opened, Willard, whose face was swollen like stung by wasps, was waiting at the door.

"Mr. Ingram, those old guys didn't give you a hard time, did they?" Willard greeted Rex respectfully, but his mouth was full of gauze and ointment, making his speech unclear.

"It doesn't matter how they see me anymore! I just want to defeat Elbert now!" Rex said, striding forward, heading directly to the deepest lab.

In the lab, an old professor looked at Rex, who was already lying on the bed, ready, with a serious expression. "Mr. Ingram, this might not be a good idea. This second-phase drug has just been developed and hasn't undergone any tests! If something goes wrong when we use it on you, I can't take responsibility!"

Rex lay on the operating table, eyes resolute. "What's the estimated success rate of enhancement?"

The old professor hesitated for a moment. "Less than 10%."

"10%? That's enough!" Rex gritted his teeth and slowly uttered these words.

"Mr. Ingram, this isn't worth it; you are risking your life for that brat!" Willard pleaded.

Rex glared. "Don't tell me it's not worth it! Have you forgotten about losing a tooth every day? Elbert caused you suffering!"

Rex's words triggered painful memories for Willard. His eyes, already swollen to slits, slowly filled with flames, becoming extremely angry!

The old professor hesitated. "Mr. Ingram, this drug hasn't completed testing and hasn't been approved. Using it on humans would be illegal and unethical!"

"To hell with the law!" Willard, previously silent, suddenly roared. "You fool, didn't you use the first-phase drug on Mr. Ingram without approval? Now you're talking about the law; where were you before?"

At this moment, Rex put on a righteous expression. "Professor, I've always trusted your abilities. I always believed your talents were underappreciated! Look, the first-phase drug has already succeeded in me, increasing my strength by 20%. So, I still believe in you for this second-phase drug! If this experiment succeeds, I'll recommend you for a promotion to assistant professor!"

After a moment of silence, Dr. Isaac Walden, the mad scientist known within the company, was tempted. He desperately wanted his research to be recognized, to the point of extremism! This was clearly an experiment against company regulations, laws, and ethics! But he decided to take the risk!

"Dr. Isaac, if this experiment succeeds, what will the effects be?" Willard asked.

Dr. Isaac's eyes gleamed with fervor.

He said, "Strength increase of 300%, body durability increase of 100%, and fourfold increase in overall combat effectiveness!"
