Chapter 347 Causing Trouble
A few black SUVs screeched to a halt in the distance!
The doors bore the letters: FIC!
Leonard furrowed his brow and muttered under his breath, "The busybodies are at it again!"
Elbert raised an eyebrow, "Officer Reed, what do you mean?"
Leonard shook his head slightly, "FIC may be a private organization, but they've scored a couple of big wins recently! One was taking down the 'Shepherd' group abroad, and the other happened today, earning praise from six major countries, but it's all hush-hush with us in Veridiania!"
"Now, they're on a roll, getting hailed by multiple nations. When it comes to cyborg affairs, they're the go-to authority, dubbed the 'Guardians of the Cyborg Era!'"
"Even if something goes down with cyborgs in our own countries, they have to get involved!"
"They've got the tacit approval of a multinational alliance, so our hands are tied!"
"They're just here to stir the pot!"
"In short, they've gotten a bit too big for their britches!"
Elbert nodded slightly, not paying them much mind. He took Dennis's hand and headed back to the Lab Graveyard, ready to let Dennis get some much-needed rest.
The doors of the FIC SUVs swung open, and a dashing blond man stepped out.
He adjusted his sunglasses, arrogantly surveying the scene before waving his hand. Seven or eight FIC members, loaded with various gear, swarmed the area.
They started investigating and gathering information, much to the annoyance of the Wavehaven SWAT team.
The blond man with the shades was none other than Robbins, the FIC division captain.
He had been staying in Veridiania for official business, courtesy of BioGen Innovations.
Robbins stood by the SUV, looking completely in control, just as Leonard had described—more than a bit cocky.
Robbins was in high spirits!
Because no one had stepped up to claim responsibility for the BioGen Innovations Earl assassination that morning!
FIC took the credit yet again!
Robbins puffed out his chest, approached Leonard, and shook his hand, "Officer Reed, glad to see you're respecting international treaties and sharing cyborg case information with us."
"We got here first, so leave it to us. With FIC on the scene, nothing will go wrong!"
Leonard forced a smile.
"But..." Robbins frowned, "Honestly, Officer Reed, the intelligence work of your Wavehaven SWAT team leaves much to be desired!"
Leonard pursed his lips, "What's the matter?"
Robbins pulled out a communicator and reviewed the details on it, "From the latest intel you shared, there was just a massive cyborg skirmish here?"
"Over a dozen B+ level cyborgs appeared from those woods?"
"Each one highly aggressive?"
"And they were after a kid?"
"Plus, the kid's parents were super-strong cyborgs too?"
Leonard nodded, "Exactly."
Robbins smirked again, "I can buy the bit about the kid's parents being overpowered and killed, since their bodies are right here."
"But your report also says a mysterious figure from Veridiania, with unpredictable strength, showed up from the room?"
"And this 'mysterious figure' whipped up a black storm with countless flying blades, turning over a dozen B+ cyborgs to dust?"
Leonard took a thermos from his subordinate, sipped some goji berry tea, and nodded, "That's correct."
Robbins clicked his tongue, his expression skeptical, "Officer Reed, you expect me to believe that? Is that even plausible?"
Leonard sighed slightly.
Robbins frowned again, "Officer Reed, I get it if Veridiania wants to protect certain individuals. Every country has its secrets."
"But concocting such a story is a stretch, don't you think?"
"Those dozen B+ cyborgs, that's... well, they're not on FIC's level."
"And you claim they were killed by one person!"
"And some black storm slicing them up?"
"That's one thing!"
"But saying they transformed into dust, that's pushing it!"
"How am I supposed to collect evidence? Separate it from the dirt on the ground? This pile here? Or that pile over there?"
"Way too far-fetched!"
"That's just not possible!"
"You might not respect FIC, but you can't mislead us like this. This is a serious cyborg death case!"
Leonard exhaled heavily, visibly annoyed. He turned to his team member and whispered, "I'm really tempted to take this guy out!"
Robbins definitely didn’t catch that!
As for what had just transpired, Leonard was absolutely certain.
By the time they arrived, the battle was over. Elbert, feeling pretty down, didn't want to explain, so he showed Leonard a surveillance video for him to see for himself.
Understanding the situation, Leonard was filled with sorrow for the Brown family and pity for Dennis.
Of course, what shocked him the most was Elbert’s ability! It was simply incomprehensible!
But due to the international cyborg treaty, he had to share the details with FIC.
However, Leonard didn’t want to expose Elbert, Veridiania’s 'deity,' and his secret weapon!
Leonard sighed, "Captain Robbins, believe what you want. If you're not happy with the report, go ahead and edit it yourself! The case is closed, and we’re prepping to leave. We don’t want to disrupt the locals here!"
"Wait!"
Robbins shook his head slightly, "Officer Reed, leave these two bodies for now. One of them’s a top-tier B+ cyborg, which is super valuable for research. FIC will take him today, and after our autopsy and research, we’ll return him to your SWAT team."
Leonard frowned, "That’s nonsense! No way!"
Robbins gave an apologetic smile and nodded, "Don’t get worked up. FIC follows procedures. This deceased, named Steven, has been identified by our team as having Victoria nationality."
"I’ve just received official permission from Victoria, granting us priority in processing the body."
Leonard’s face turned red with anger, "You!"
Suddely, a stretch limo screeched to a halt in the distance!
A pale-faced woman with a ponytail got out!
Her eyes were red, showing a sign of sobbing.
As soon as she got out, she was stunned!
Wasn't this Elbert's house?
