Chapter 267 Tenfold Master
At the border, there was this tiny underground village that looked like it was hiding a massive grave—a grave full of mechs.
Elbert, with his bare hands and some freakish strength, was yanking these rusty, weird steel things out of the pit one by one.
Four-legged turrets, mobile machine gun bunkers that looked like robot dogs, and some janky exoskeletons were all junk, totally unusable, which blew everyone's minds.
These were relics from World War II, like over 70 years old.
Robert Williams was like, "Elbert, these things are ancient. Back then, there were tons of mad scientists always cooking up new weapons. But the tech was so primitive, these things had crazy high failure rates. When the troops pulled out, they just buried and ditched them."
Elbert just nodded, not really caring, and kept digging for whatever he was after.
In the distance, only Gary and General Jeffery stayed chill, old battlefield vets.
They clearly knew more than the rest of the crew.
Wars back then were way more complicated than what regular folks see in movies and news.
The ApexGuardians, though, were just standing there, jaws dropped.
Each of these machines were heavy like hell
And he was pulling them out of the ground with brute force, like a human excavator and a human crane!
His strength was off the charts!
After dragging out seven or so of these weird mechs from 65 feet underground, three lead barrels with nuclear symbols started to show up.
Robert Williams was like, "Radium, one of the most radioactive things on Earth!"
Elbert hauled the three oil drum-sized lead barrels to the surface, and they were super heavy.
Radioactive stuff decays really slowly; even after like fifty years, it would barely decay by one-thousandth!
Everyone's faces went pale.
There was nuclear waste here!
General Jeffery waved his hand, and a bunch of ApexGuardians warriors stepped up.
Even though the radiation was crazy high, it wouldn't mess with the ApexGuardians, who were way tougher than regular people, at least in the short term!
The ApexGuardians quickly got into the village and found some radiation isolation cloth, wrapping the three lead barrels tight.
Elbert looked at the barrels, thinking, 'We need you guys to use military resources to help get these back to Wavehaven, making sure there are no leaks.'
Jeffery frowned. "What do you want these for?"
Before Elbert could answer, Gary waved his hand with a mysterious look.
General Jeffery had to bite his tongue.
Highly radioactive stuff like this should be strictly controlled.
Once found, it should be handled by the authorities!
But facing Gary and Elbert, Jeffery was stuck.
After a moment, Jeffery's face turned serious. "This is outside the national border; moving such big items is tough."
"Don't worry, sir." Elbert looked at the ApexGuardians warriors, "I'll stick around for a few days to help you sort out the immediate problem."
General Jeffery finally cracked a smile. "Good!"
It took Elbert at least an hour to dig out the three barrels of radium.
By then, it was almost dusk.
Gary was already tipsy and half-asleep.
The ApexGuardians warriors quickly cleaned up the battlefield, burying all the bodies.
Under the curious stares of the crowd, Elbert walked up to a lizardman corpse, squatted down, and collected a bunch of scales and blood samples, storing them in test tubes he had on him.
Then, the so-called tough transportation by General Jeffery was actually just three ApexGuardians warriors, each carrying one of the wrapped radium barrels on their shoulders, ready to haul them back.
Legal transportation was a pain, but if it was an official smuggling gig, it got way easier!
One of the ApexGuardians warriors had the sleeping Gary slung over his back.
In the dim light, the crew quickly made their way back to the ApexGuardians base through the jungle!
The next morning, the jungle was all misty, like it had rained. The leaves and the tops of the tents were covered in a layer of dew.
Gary and Summer woke up, only to see Elbert standing by the training ground in the military camp, watching the ApexGuardians doing their morning drills.
Elbert was skinny, but compared to the ApexGuardians warriors, he had this different kind of vibe.
Just standing there, he looked like a total badass!
Gary pouted secretly.
He thought, 'He's growing fast!'
To regular folks, the ApexGuardians' morning workout was terrifying.
They were carrying huge rocks on their shoulders, squatting and standing over and over.
Their rock-solid bodies were drenched in sweat!
With a bang, a tree trunk as thick as a telephone pole got shattered by a punch from one of the warriors!
If there were no cyborgs, these guys would be the peak of human strength.
The whistle blew.
ApexGuardians' chief instructor Jeffery strolled out of the tent.
The ApexGuardians warriors quickly lined up.
Jeffery stood next to Elbert with his hands behind his back, whispering, "You promised me you'd tame these guys."
"Don't worry, sir. I'll do my best." Elbert nodded seriously.
Jeffery cleared his throat and said to the warriors, "You all saw yesterday's battle. Today, we have some free time. Didn't someone say they wanted to challenge Elbert yesterday? Well! Here's your chance!"
The warriors stood at attention, lips pursed, no one stepping up.
One warrior gritted his teeth, wanting to step forward, but another pulled him back. "Stay calm."
Jeffery's gaze swept over each warrior's face.
Gradually, he smiled. "Is there anyone still not convinced by the cyborgs?"
Gray Bear slightly pouted, stubbornly saying, "Elbert's strength is probably at the peak among cyborgs. How can we, who rely on our own training, compare to him?"
Gray Bear was muscular and clever.
His words first acknowledged the strength of cyborgs and likened Elbert to a rare and exceptional existence.
Ordinary cyborgs could be handled by the ApexGuardians, but how often would they encounter someone like Elbert?
Jeffery pondered for a moment.
Gray Bear had a point!
These guys were good at finding excuses!
Was it so hard to accept being modified?
Elbert smiled slightly. "Everyone, times have changed."
Gray Bear said, "We know. We've heard it a million times!"
Elbert shook his head with a smile, continuing, "There are always stronger enemies ahead of us. I once met a high-level cyborg, incredibly powerful, who knocked me out with one move. His strength is ten times mine!"
Summer was suddenly stunned. 'Who?'
The ApexGuardians warriors also focused instantly.
Someone stronger than Elbert by ten times sounded quite impressive.
Even Jeffery and Gary frowned and looked over!
Elbert slowly said, "This person is a master from Southeast Asia, incredibly handsome, wearing a tracksuit, carrying a metal bat on his shoulder. His body seemed to contain ten beasts! His bat skills were unparalleled! I fought him for 5 seconds and was defeated! And he was only ranked at the bottom of his international assassin organization!"
Even the usually composed Summer couldn't stay calm, his face twitching as he said, "Quentin?"
Elbert's expression suddenly became serious, with a hint of heroism, turning to look at the sunrise.
He said slowly, "Yes, the master Quentin."
