Chapter 92 Former Brothers

Elbert gazed at Professor Gavin through the window, feeling a wave of emotion. It was as if time had turned back to his university days when he sat in the classroom absorbing knowledge.

"His theory is not correct," Robert‘s voice echoed in his mind. "Artificial intelligence also has different levels. For example, I am a product of electronic chips combined with your brain. Half chip, half biological nerve, I am you, and you are me! I have the computing speed of a computer and the unrestricted thinking of a human! Although I am currently weak, once I reach the 4th sequence, I can be superior to the strong AI he mentioned!"

In the upper right corner of Elbert's view, a progress bar appeared: Sequence upgrade 1%, 2%.

Professor Gavin continued his lecture. "Of course, students, the above theories about artificial intelligence are also just industry speculations! The so-called artificial intelligence on the market now is just 'fake' AI with pre-programmed response procedures; they don't really think! In today's tech field, there is no true AI, and no one currently can develop it!"

He sighed heavily. "I wonder if I can see a true artificial intelligence before I die?"

He laughed. "Students, imagine if there is an AI friend with whom you could have coffee and catch up. Wouldn't that be amazing?"

The class bell rang.

"Class dismissed!"

Professor Gavin greeted the students, picked up his materials, and pushed the door open. As soon as he stepped outside, he saw the figure in a white shirt and jeans.

"Elbert?" Professor Gavin wiped his glasses and confirmed again, "Is it really you? Where have you been all these years? Why haven't you contacted me?"

Elbert was Professor Gavin's best student three years ago, renowned throughout the university.

"Professor, lots of things happened. Anyway, I'm back. Nice to see you!" Elbert greeted.

"Okay. You look great! It's great to see you again." Professor Gavin smiled.

Elbert smiled silently, and the two went to Professor Gavin's office. After some casual talk, Professor Gavin looked at his beloved student, pushed up his glasses, and said, "Elbert, you're always up to something! Tell me, did you come to because of Alex?"

"Alex?" Elbert was confused. Alex was a good friend from his university dorm, second only to Alvin. But since the incident three years ago, Elbert hadn't contacted Alex. He had only heard that Alex had been doing well, leveraging family connections.

"Professor, you misunderstood. I did come here for something, but not for Alex." Elbert scratched his head. "I want to buy the old abandoned experimental exhibition hall, the 'experimental graveyard'!"

"I knew it!" Professor Gavin smiled helplessly. "And you say it's not for Alex? Alex has been pestering me these days, wanting me to convince the dean to sell him that land! Now you come to plead for him, right?"

Professor Gavin pulled up a serious expression. "Let me say this one last time: we are a university, not a business! Our goal is to educate talent for the country, not to make money! The experimental graveyard may be desolate, but it's reserved for future research projects."

Then, Professor Gavin patted Elbert's shoulder. "Remember, you are all top students. When you enter society, don't just think about making money! Why don't you focus on contributing more to the country and technological innovations?"

Elbert was left speechless by his mentor's lecture. He didn't dare argue and just listened patiently. Then, Elbert said helplessly, "Professor, I know you find it difficult, but I really need that land. And it is not the money."

Unexpectedly, Professor Gavin's eyes suddenly dimmed upon hearing this.

He sighed, "Elbert, don't think you can fool your professor. I know about your accident, and your brain injury makes you different from before. You should find a stable job and not aim too high. If you need financial help, just let me know."

Elbert felt even more helpless. He couldn't explain himself. After leaving Wavehaven University, Elbert looked up information about Alex.

To his surprise, in the three years they hadn't seen each other, Alex had become the chairman of a real estate company! And the experimental graveyard was their next development plan!

Elbert smiled with relief. He dialed Alex's number.

"Hello." The call was answered, and a familiar but more mature voice came through.

"Alex, it's Elbert," Elbert slowly said, feeling a surge of uncontrollable emotion.

"Elbert? Which Elbert?" The person on the other end hesitated for a moment, then seemed to remember and replied indifferently, "What do you want?"

The coldness made Elbert frown slightly.

"I heard you want to buy the experimental graveyard. Are you out of your mind?" Elbert said.

"Elbert, I heard you got your eyes poked out and your brain damaged. I didn't believe it. Now, I have to believe it."

"You really are stupid! Want to buy land? Do you know how much that land costs? It would scare you to death!"

"You are hilarious! You still think you're the shining star from university! I thought you would achieve great things after graduating; I was wrong! I heard you achieved nothing. "

Elbert didn't say a word and quietly hung up.

He didn't need to speak one word because he knew it was futile.

'People's hearts are truly hard to fathom. Who would have thought that an old classmate would become so mercenary and harsh in just three years? Is it society that has corrupted him? Or was he always this narrow-minded and profit-driven?' he pondered.

But no matter what, he knew the friendship was over.

'From now on, don't blame me for being ruthless,' thought him.
