Chapter 190 Pay up

Vortex's body, propelled by unimaginable force, crashed through a table and reduced the ornate furniture to splinters.

He lay still, eyes vacant with bloody lips. His arm now resembled a deflated balloon; twisted and useless.

The banquet hall fell silent, as if the world itself were holding its breath. The assembled guests stared in stunned disbelief, their hearts pounding.

They still couldn't believe what they had witnessed. The mighty Vortex, the Godlike, had been vanquished with one finger. That was all Paul Two took to send him flying like a ragdoll.

Fear pierced through the room, settling like a shroud over every soul present. All eyes remained glued to Elbert, their gaze a mixture of awe and terror.

They fully realized that this wasn't merely a difference in strength; it was an insurmountable chasm, power that defied comprehension. The understanding of these underworld figures, who had built their empires on violence and intimidation, was shattered. This was a level of power they had never even dreamt of.

Paul Two, the man who had always seemed so calm and unassuming, was a force of nature disguised in a tailored suit. The arrogance of the Dragon Pride Syndicate, the swagger of the Darkwood Three Brothers, now appeared comical in front of his overwhelming might. He was right; in his eyes, they were nothing more than ants.nts.

Fear filled the room as they looked at Vortex's battered body.

'A Godlike was reduced to this. What hope did we have?' The thought of that single finger unleashing upon them sent shivers down their spines. Sighs of relief swept through the room.

'Thank God we chose to side with Paul Two at the crucial moment. To be his enemy… the consequences were too terrifying to contemplate.' they almost panicked.

Even Brother Seven and the two elders, veterans of countless battles, felt helpless.

To them, this was a new era; one where brute force was meaningless against such otherworldly power. The world they knew and ruled was gone.

Despite her usual stoicism, Spring felt a surge of emotion. Her brother, in the span of mere days, had ascended to a level beyond human comprehension. He had immense power; capable of reshaping the world with a thought.

Melissa's hand instinctively flew to her mouth, annoyance washing over her. Why did he always do this? Why did he let himself appear vulnerable, only to unleash such terrifying power at the last moment? Her heart pounded, a mixture of fear and exhilaration. She chided herself silently.

'Melissa, you fool. Stop trying to understand him; just trust him!'

The only ones who seemed genuinely thrilled were the Black Foxes. Their boss was invincible. To follow him was to follow a god among men.

At Elbert's subtle gesture, several Black Fox members moved with practiced efficiency, dragging the unconscious Vortex onto the stage. The three leaders of the Dragon Pride Syndicate and the Darkwood Three Brothers were now assembled, albeit in varying states of incapacitation. One bound and dazed, one a whimpering mess, and the last, unconscious with a mangled arm. The Dragon Pride Syndicate, once a feared and respected name, now fell into ruin.

"Sit," Elbert commanded, his voice deceptively calm.

The effect was instantaneous. The assembled guests, jolted back to reality, scrambled to find their seats. They were quick to adapt.

They knew Paul Two had demonstrated his power in no uncertain terms, and he could crush them all as easily as he had crushed the Dragon Pride Syndicate.

No one dared disobey. Even the three elders sat down with a newfound respect. The room, once filled with nervous chatter, was now silent with only the sound of feet shuffling as the guests found their places.

Elbert deliberately returned to the stage. He retrieved the black glove from his pocket and put it on. The simple act was amplified in the stillness, every ear attuned to the sound.

That seemingly insignificant glove was a symbol of unimaginable power held in check. The thought sent shivers down their spines.

'Was his entire body covered in such restraints? How much power was he holding back?' they wondered.

"I brought the Darkwood Three Brothers here today to make something very clear," Elbert's voice, soft yet carrying an undeniable weight, cut through the silence.

Every muscle in the room tensed.

"It's quite simple, really; anyone who harms what's mine will face the consequences tenfold." His gaze, cold and unforgiving, settled on the three broken figures on the stage. "Today, I collect my due."

Collective gasps ran through the room. The Dragon Pride Syndicate had injured a little over a hundred Black Fox members, but Paul Two had already retaliated tenfold.

'What more could he possibly want?' they gaped.

He raised his hand, his index finger extending to gently brush against Melissa's cheek. The guests, squinting to see, saw three faint, almost healed scratches on her flawless skin.

"Spring," Elbert said softly.

Spring blankly nodded, taking out a sharp dagger as if by magic. Without a word, she approached the stage. Three flicks of her wrist with the dagger brought out three screams, tearing through the silence.

Midnight, his face contorted in agony, staggered back with three deep gashes carved into his cheeks, down to the bone. Each wound, over ten centimeters long, bled out and stained his expensive suit.

Spring didn't hesitate. From Raven and then Vortex;both received the same treatment. Three slashes, a gruesome reflection of the injuries inflicted upon Melissa.

The scent of blood filled the air, a stark contrast to the opulent surroundings.

"Consider yourselves fortunate. We are now even," Elbert's emotionless voice echoed in the stunned silence.

Cold sweat washed over the assembled guests. This was Paul Two's world now; one where even a Godlike could be broken as easily as a twig.
