Chapter 432 Assistance
Quentin grabbed the village chief's head and took a bite!
The chief let out a blood-curdling scream.
He lost his balance and fell off the wooden platform.
Chaos erupted instantly.
Ten minutes later.
The platform had collapsed, and the village chief sat on the ground with a bandage wrapped around his large head.
The chief dismissed Wendy and Mike.
Elbert held back the eager Quentin with all his might, "I'm really sorry."
"Just call me Jace. Let me be straight with you."
Jace Scott looked a bit distressed, "My lower body got burned away in a fire, but ever since I was exposed to radiation, my brain's been messed up. I keep having these weird dreams."
"These dreams are bizarre, but I slowly realized they were all about future events!"
"Like Flynn getting lost."
"Or whose house would catch fire?"
"So the villagers call me a prophet."
Jace's mouth twitched, "But those are just small things."
"Until three days ago, I dreamt of you. You walked into the stone coffin, and then the fate of our entire village changed."
"But the dream was blurry. I don't know what happens after you come out, or what happens to the village."
Elbert was slightly taken aback, "Is that so?"
Robert chimed in, "The human brain's neural network has a certain biological magnetic field. It's said that if this field is strong enough, consciousness can penetrate the fourth dimension, allowing one to see a hazy future."
"But that's all theoretical."
"To understand everything, we'd have to dissect Jace."
Elbert pursed his lips, "Let's not. We should respect him."
Jace glanced fearfully at Quentin, "No matter what, I really want to see the outcome."
With that, Jace took out a scroll and slowly opened it.
It was a hand-drawn map.
At the center was the Galaxy District's core—the stone coffin.
Surrounding the stone coffin were various hills and lakes.
There were several red crosses marked on it.
Jace explained, "This map is the result of years of exploration by the villagers. Every red cross marks the location of dangerous mutated animals."
"When you head to the stone coffin, you must avoid them."
Jace pointed to the stone coffin, "As for this place, our abilities are limited. We can't enter it, and there are certainly unknown risks. You must be cautious!"
Jace placed the map in Elbert's hands, his eyes full of hope.
Elbert finally understood!
The villagers of Yulia Village, including Jace, wanted to help him complete his exploration!
They meant no harm!
Elbert glanced at the map in his hand, and the information transformed into data, stored in his mind.
But seeing Jace's hopeful smile, Elbert nodded in response, folded the map, and tucked it into his coat.
At that moment.
There was a commotion outside, with many torches flickering.
Jace smiled, "The villagers just want to welcome you."
Then, Mike entered the house, lifted Jace onto a wooden board, and carried him outside.
Elbert followed them out.
Outside, long tables had been set up.
Villagers gathered around, and the tables were laden with food.
There were various oddly shaped mutated fruits and deep purple meat.
And a bowl full of wriggling worms.
All of it was terrifyingly unappetizing.
There were even cups filled with an unknown liquid that smelled of alcohol.
It was clear.
This was the best feast the village could offer.
Jace smiled, "As you might have guessed, these are all mutated plants and animals. But we've been eating them for over 30 years, and we're still kicking."
Wendy brought a cup of the drink and handed it to Elbert.
Not wanting to refuse their hospitality, Elbert took a small sip.
The taste was extremely sour and bitter, but after swallowing, it left a slight sweetness.
It wasn't bad!
Strangely, Elbert felt a bit refreshed!
He even felt a slight increase in his energy!
Robert commented, "This drink isn't poisonous and contains radiation. It can help with your body's evolution!"
Elbert was amazed!
Seeing Elbert accept the drink, the villagers became even more excited!
Having not eaten since leaving the Reincarnation Temple, Elbert was quite hungry!
So he joined the villagers in eating!
The food tasted strange, but it wasn't unbearable!
And as he ate, Elbert felt waves of warmth rising within him, increasing his radiation energy!
Watching Quentin devour the food beside him, Elbert hesitated but then relaxed.
Quentin was an F-class cyborg, with a strong body. He should be able to handle the radiation in the food, right?
"This is delicious!"
Quentin's mouth was full of mutated food, and he looked at the villagers with tears of happiness, "You guys are so kind."
Elbert felt a pang of guilt.
Quentin's hallucinations hadn't worn off.
If he saw the true nature of the food and realized the villagers were terrifying monsters, could he handle it?
At that moment, Quentin grabbed a handful of worms from the bowl and stuffed them into his mouth.
Elbert frowned.
Even he couldn't bring himself to eat those worms.
"These noodles are so good."
With a worm still wriggling in his mouth, Quentin said to Elbert, "Paul Three, want some?"
Elbert waved his hand, "A gentleman doesn't take what others love."
Wendy giggled, "Don't worry, those are deadwood worms. They're non-toxic and very nutritious."
Elbert nodded blankly.
After the meal.
It was late at night, and the silver moon in the sky was unusually clear, almost close to the ground.
Quentin lay by the fire, already asleep, snoring loudly.
The villagers had dispersed.
Only Wendy and Mike stayed with Elbert.
"Elbert, can I sing you a song?"
Wendy smiled frequently, her appearance still terrifying, but Elbert was used to it and nodded gently.
Wendy fetched an instrument.
It was wooden, with an oval body and strings.
It looked like an ancient Veridiania instrument.
This was a Lumaria folk instrument, a banjo.
Wendy seemed aware of her frightening appearance, so she stepped back a few paces, turned her back, and stood in the moonlight.
The next moment.
Beautiful music began to play.
The sound was rich and clear, with an ancient rhythm that was enchanting.
Then, Wendy began to hum softly, without lyrics, but the melody was captivating.
Elbert was drawn in, listening intently.
Wendy started singing the lyrics.
It was a voice that seemed to reach into one's soul.
It was in Lumaria's language, and though Elbert didn't understand the words, the beautiful melody transcended language barriers.
Robert translated the lyrics.
[Oh, distant little village.]
[A village unknown to the world.]
[This is my home.]
[Born under the most beautiful flowers.]
[And in our hearts.]
[No matter how the world sees us.]
[This is home.]
[We will never pack our bags.]
[This is home.]
