Chapter 398 Sorry
After Elbert left.
The old man with white eyebrows turned around and said, "Tell the kitchen to make enough food for that kid like he's eating for ten people, and add an extra portion every day. I know his metabolism! We can't let him go hungry!"
"Got it, Master."
The four monks nodded in agreement.
Once his disciples had left, the old man with white eyebrows wiped the cold sweat from his forehead with his sleeve. He quickly moved to the back of the meditation mat, activated a hidden mechanism, and slipped into a secret compartment.
The compartment led to a private room. Inside, there was an altar table filled with fruits and pastries, with candles and incense burning. The old man knelt on the mat and bowed his head.
"Master, I have sinned!"
"Please don't blame me!"
"This was all your idea!"
"You told me to provoke him, to reveal information to him!"
He took out a crumpled bill from his pocket and respectfully placed it on the table. "This is my coffin money. I don't know when I'll need it, but today I'm offering it to you. Please forgive me!"
"I remember you were quite poor back then, always wearing the same clothes."
The old man looked up, lost in thought. Behind the altar table hung a peculiar portrait. The paper was yellowed with age, and though it was painted with watercolor and ink, the figure seemed out of place for the era it depicted. The portrait showed a man in a white shirt, with slightly long hair, a handsome face, and a faint purple glow in his right eye.
In the straw hut.
Garry placed Elbert on the bed and left.
Inside, only Elbert and the beautiful Rachel remained. They were silent for a moment.
Elbert struggled to sit up, trying to hide his embarrassment. Rachel shook her head slightly, "Elbert, your clothes are filthy. Let me take them off and wash them for you."
She stepped forward to unbutton his shirt. "Elbert, you have a black undershirt too? It's dirty as well, let me wash it all."
Elbert reached out, "Thanks, but it's fine like this."
He noticed Rachel's delicate fingers, clearly not used to hard labor. How could he let such a girl wash his clothes? More importantly, what would he do after taking off his clothes? Be naked?
Rachel smiled, "Elbert, don't be shy. I'm a lay disciple, but I've renounced worldly desires."
"It's not about being shy. I'm hungry."
Elbert smiled politely.
"Alright, I'll prepare some food for you."
Rachel nodded gently and left. Soon, she returned with simple vegetarian dishes, just as Savior had mentioned, vegetable porridge. Despite its simplicity, the food had a unique flavor, light and refreshing.
This small temple had little contact with the outside world. The wheat was homegrown, the vegetables from the backyard, cooked with spring water and pinewood. In today's society, such purity was rare.
Elbert devoured the entire temple's lunch for over thirty people in just thirty minutes.
"Everyone in the temple will go hungry today!"
The old man with white eyebrows sighed deeply in the secret room. He had underestimated Elbert's appetite. He looked up at the portrait, "Master, should I take back the money I offered you? I can't let the whole temple starve, right?"
Meanwhile, Elbert's new human physiology was extraordinary. Despite his severe injuries, his second-stage gene lock allowed his metabolism to be a hundred times faster than normal. Just one meal made him feel rejuvenated, reducing his pain and accelerating the healing of his bones and muscles.
A normal person would take three to five years to recover from such injuries, and would likely be left with disabilities. But Elbert was confident he could recover in twenty days. Moreover, this was a perfect opportunity to strengthen his body. He realized the importance of improving his strength.
Rachel sighed softly, "Elbert, your injuries are severe. Take it easy and recover slowly."
Elbert smiled awkwardly. Fortunately, they were in the mountains. Otherwise, he, the renowned Punisher Paul Five, would be too embarrassed to face anyone.
Elbert changed the subject, "Ms. Nguyen, is your master the hero Savior from the rankings?"
Rachel shook her head slightly, "I only know my master is profound. Whether he's the hero Savior, I can't say."
Elbert nodded silently, then said, "Ms. Nguyen, it's getting late. I need to rest."
Rachel nodded gently. She took a small copper bell from her waist and placed it by Elbert's bed. "If you feel uncomfortable at night, ring the bell. I'll be in the next room."
She tucked Elbert's blanket in and left. Elbert looked at the delicate copper bell, still carrying Rachel's scent. Her words and actions were filled with care, and Elbert was moved. The temple was full of good people. Savior's strange behavior was definitely intentional in saving him.
Four hours later, Elbert suddenly opened his eyes. It was the perfect time to act. After a few hours of recovery, he could barely stand. Though his broken bones made his limbs weak, he could still walk by holding onto the walls.
It took him thirty minutes to cover thirty feet, reaching the old man's main room. The temple was old, and all the doors opened easily. Elbert could hear the old man's thunderous snores from the side room.
Perfect.
Elbert moved quietly, his target was the old man's transistor radio. With his expertise in electronics, circuits, and mechanics, he was confident he could dismantle and modify the radio. It surely had batteries, which he could use to power his phone's signal transmitter and contact the Punisher Organization.
Elbert was determined. Savior, I'm sorry. Once I return to Wavehaven, I'll send you a satellite base!
