Chapter 207

"William," she answered, her voice tinged with an unusual huskiness.

"What's up? You sound really down," William sensed the emotional turmoil on the other end the moment he heard her.

"Oh, it's nothing. I just had a bad night, what's up?" Teresa quickly regained her poise.

Sensing that Teresa didn't wish to elaborate, William didn't press further. He simply relayed the latest update, "The camera in your office, we've figured it out. It was Dakota who bribed a student from your class to install it while you were away. That student sneaked in under the guise of turning in some coursework. Besides the camera, there's likely a listening device under your desk. I'll send someone soon to thoroughly search your office and investigate
whether there are any other issues."

"Do you know who the student is?" Teresa frowned, hardly surprised.

"Samuel Lawson."

He is the teaching assistant of her freshman course, always eager to share a laugh with her. He was the one who often collected and brought assignments to her office.

She would have never anticipated that he could be bought off by Dakota.
"I see, got it," Teresa murmured, pondering for a moment before adding, "William, can you have someone keep an eye on Dakota for me?"

Considering that Dakota had bought off someone to install the cameras, she undoubtedly orchestrated the drugging incident at lunch with Terry yesterday.

But what Teresa couldn't figure out was how Dakota managed to predict that Gabriel would show up at that exact time. Could it have simply been a coincidence?

Anyway, she was determined not to give Dakota another opportunity to succeed.

"Yeah, don't worry, I'll have someone on her," William assured her over the phone, and before hanging up, he tried to probe, "About you and Gabriel..."

"You're such a gossip, bye," Teresa cut him off before William could finish, and she hung up the call.

With a heavy sigh, Teresa leaned back in her chair. Just then, her phone vibrated in her palm interrupting her thoughts of whether or not to text Gabriel. When she looked at the screen, it was a call from the school.

Ditching the idea of messaging Gabriel first, she answered the call...

...

Teresa had been busy at work all day. When she finally had a moment to herself around six in the evening, she checked her phone to find a slew of unread messages and missed calls, yet none were from Gabriel, nor was there a single call from him.

It seemed he was truly mad this time. And not just mad, but seething.

But why?

He hadn't believed her regarding the incident with Liam before.

Now, with Terry, he still didn't believe her.

He always confronted her with accusations.

“Gabriel, by now, I wish I could give you everything, so why can't you trust me? Is it anger or disappointment? Well, I'm angry, and I'm disappointed too!”

“Gabriel, if you've decided to ignore me, then so be it. Neither of us should have to bend over backward, to grovel in the dust for the other.”

Yet at this moment, why were her eyes stinging so much, her chest feeling as if it were packed with cotton, making it hard even to breathe?

With effort, Teresa kept her emotions in check, swallowing all the bitterness and discomfort, before packing up to leave work.

[Teresa, haven’t you two made up after that exam result thing?]

Teresa's phone buzzed with a new message as soon as she got in her car and began to drive. She took it out and noticed it was a text message from Hayden.

It was strange. She never mentioned her fight with Gabriel to anyone. How did Hayden know, and moreover, how did she know they hadn’t made up yet?

Thinking it over, Teresa simply replied, “Yeah, we did have a little spat over the exam,” but she didn't feel like elaborating, even to her best friend, Hayden.

Teresa trusted Hayden, but there was more at stake. Gabriel wasn’t just her husband; he was also the CEO of Nebula and a director at Capital Construction. And Hayden’s business had partnerships with both Nebula and Capital Construction. She didn’t want her marital issues to jeopardize those business relationships.

Hayden had a strong personality and was currently running her family business. Complaining about Gabriel to her could tarnish his reputation in Hayden’s eyes and potentially harm their collaboration.

Hayden texted her again. “Honestly, I'm kind of jealous. The little schemes Gabriel pulls are just because he loves you too much. He wants to keep you close and doesn't want you drifting too far away. But, argue as you might, just don’t let anyone seize the opportunity to get with him. A guy like Gabriel, many women are eying him covetously.”

The second she received the message Teresa furrowed her brows.

She knew Hayden had a knack for straight talk and wasn’t one to scare her without reason. So, what was she hinting at...?

Just as Teresa’s confusion peaked, a trend on Twitter caught her eye: “Kay Baxter lands Nebula endorsement and dines with the CEO Gabriel.”

Instantly, her heart skipped a beat. Her finger swiftly tapped on the trending news on Twitter...
