chapter291 Forced Kiss

Without any more attention to him, Diana set down her bag and began changing her shoes. Taking the cue, Douglas made himself at home, closing the door behind him and stepping onto the cool floor in his socks. "They have cooled off. I'll go heat them in the kitchen," he said, moving toward the kitchen.

"Just a minute." Seeing him in his socks on the floor, Diana couldn't help but feel sorry for him and stopped him.

Douglas paused and turned to her, smiling, "What's up?"

She frowned slightly, then pulled a pair of men's slippers from the shoe cabinet and tossed them before him. "Put these on."

Douglas looked down at the large brown slippers. His bright eyes dimmed momentarily, but it was just a flash before he slipped them on happily, continuing to the kitchen.

"How long should they go in for, Diana?" Douglas called out.

Douglas shouted from the kitchen as Diana was about to retreat to her room to change clothes.

The microwave was like alien technology to him – a high-maintenance Liam indeed.

Sighing, Diana turned back toward the kitchen.

"I got it." She declared, quickly taking plates out of the cupboard and skillfully transferring the food from the takeout containers.

Douglas stood beside her, drawn in by her deft movements. Diana had just finished prepping the food into bowls when she turned around and found herself face-to-face with a tall handsome visage mere inches away.

Douglas was staring at her intensely, their proximity so close she could nearly feel his breath. As his gaze lingered on her, slowly, his head inched toward Diana's lips.

Startled, Diana dodged just in time, then playfully ruffled Douglas's hair with a chuckle. "Hey, kid, stop trying to sneak a taste. You know, the 'old cheese' isn't that delicious," she teased.

Douglas just looked at her, speechless.

She giggled and went to warm up the food in the microwave. When she turned around after setting the timer, Douglas’s face was unexpectedly close.

This time, their lips did touch, briefly but unmistakably. Frozen in shock, Diana felt a quick, deliberate kiss from Douglas on her lips. Before she could react, he stepped back, grinning cheekily, "The 'old cheese' tastes much better than the fresh stuff."

Diana gave him a sidelong glance without hinting of anger, her lips curving slightly. "Is that so? You've been having the fresh stuff often?"

Douglas quickly shook his head. "Only when it's been, well, served up to me."

‘Men... they're all the same,’ she thought sarcastically.

"Watch the food. Once this batch is done, heat the next one for five minutes," Diana instructed calmly as she breezed past Douglas and into the bedroom.

Soon, she returned from the bedroom with a set of casual home clothes and went to the bathroom, locking the door behind her to shower.

She had always been cautious around men in the past, but what had that yielded? Now, she just wanted to be her genuine self, unconcerned whether men liked or judged her.

As the four dishes each took five minutes to reheat, Diana had time to shower and change into a comfortable new outfit.

Douglas set the table with all the dishes and utensils, grabbing two drinks from the fridge. As he looked up, he saw Diana, just out of the shower, wearing a light purple loungewear set, heading his way.

He couldn't help but stare for a moment.

"What are you looking at?" she asked.

Douglas's intense gaze felt hot and exposed, sending her heart into disarray. Yet, she maintained a calm composure on the surface.

"Heh..." Douglas grinned and chuckled, "Diana, has anyone told you how pretty you look and that you've got this sexy vibe going on?"

Diana glanced at him but remained silent. Sitting at the dining table, she pulled on a pair of disposable gloves and began digging into a large, seasoned beef steak. Between bites, she muttered to herself, "Hurry up and eat. Then get out of here so I can have some peace."

Douglas popped open a soda can and passed it to her with a teasing smile. "Can I just stay over? Crash on your couch? It's comfy."

Diana looked at him and shook her head decisively. "Douglas, let me make this clear one more time. I'm not interested in 'brothers,' especially not ones who can't even use a microwave."

"I can use it now," he insisted, watching her, not showing any sign of backing down.

Diana shook her head. "That's because I taught you."

"Well, from here on out, I can learn from you. Once I get it down, you won't need to bother," Douglas persisted with a smile.

Diana kept shaking her head. "I don't like teaching, especially not men."

"Then I'll start teaching myself from now on."

"Douglas, don't you get it? I only see you as a brother, nothing more," Diana put down the beef steak, frowning at him.

His gaze held hers, and a flash of dejected disappointment became too strong to conceal. Slowly, during their locked eyes, he lowered his head and stood up, stepping away.

Diana felt sorry and pained for the blow she had dealt the crestfallen young man. As he walked past her, she couldn't help but look at him and started to say, "Douglas, you—"

"Shh!" Before she could finish, Douglas abruptly halted. In a lightning-fast move, he bent down, cupped the back of her head with his large hand, and captured her lips.

His face loomed large before her. Sitting in the chair, Diana's eyes widened in shock, her mind blank for an instant.

But soon, she came to her senses and tried to push Douglas away.

However, like an unyielding mountain, he kept pressing forward, not moving an inch despite her resistance.

"Mmm... Douglas!"

After struggling for what seemed like an eternity, Diana finally managed to turn her head away and escape his kiss.

Douglas still held the back of her head, his forehead resting against hers, his eyes intensely bright as he asked in a husky voice, "Diana, you felt that, didn't you?"
