Chapter 593 Love Is Not Everything of Life

The next few days passed peacefully.

Hayden was peacefully waiting to give birth in the hospital, with several top obstetricians from River North by her side, and the conditions of her and the two babies were stable.

Isabella was brought to River North, and she was mostly at the hospital accompanying Hayden during the day. Sophia cooked soup every day, prepared nutritious and delicious meals and sent them to the hospital. She and Isabella got along exceptionally well, so much so that anyone observing them would think they were family. Their interactions were warm and harmonious.

Jasper also visited the hospital every day, chatting with Hayden for a while, but he usually didn't stay long, leaving after about half an hour. Since he promised Hayden, he would stay at River North until she safely gave birth to the babies.

Of course, Jasper was not idle while at River North. The Hart had projects at River North that Jasper was originally in charge of, so most of his time was spent on work projects.

Although William had never appeared at the hospital in the past few days, he was well informed about Hayden and the two babies' conditions.

That morning, as William was in his office reading the various reports from Hayden's prenatal check-ups sent from the hospital, his phone vibrated on the desk. It was a call from Michelle's mother, Madison.

Michelle's parents were both highly educated individuals, kind-hearted, who had an excellent reputation in the local community. This was why, although William didn't like Michelle, he highly respected her parents.

"Aunt Madison." William immediately answered the phone, setting aside the reports in his hand.

"William." On the other end of the phone, Madison answered lovingly, frowning as she looked at Michelle, who was delirious with a high fever. She sighed softly. "William, did you and Michelle have a disagreement?"

Sensing something amiss in Madison's tone, William immediately asked, "Aunt Madison, is Michelle alright?"

"Well, the day before yesterday when I called her, she was already sick, coughing and running a fever. She suddenly neglected herself. Last night when we video called, I noticed her was getting worse.I didn't know why she didn't take better care of herself." Madison sat by the bedside, looking at Michelle with a mix of concern and helplessness.

"How is Michelle now?" William asked in surprise, furrowing his brows.

Over the past weekend, he had indeed had no contact with Michelle. Since the last time she came to his office wanting to have lunch together but left without eating, he had only seen her once during a meeting.

These days, they had no personal contact, and he had shown no concern for Michelle. Apart from work, he had been focusing on Hayden and two babies.

"She's delirious in the hospital," Madison said with concern.

"Which hospital? I'll go there now." William immediately offered.

Madison nodded and told William the hospital and room number.

After hanging up the phone, William got up, put on his suit jacket, and strode out.

The hospital where Michelle was not far from the Bennett Group, and he arrived in just over twenty minutes.

When William arrived at Michelle's ward, she was lying on the bed, still unconscious with a high fever.

"Aunt Madison," William called out as he saw Madison sitting by the bed, her face etched with worry.

"William, you’re here." Hearing the voice, Madison turned to see William entering the room and nodded lovingly. "Come over and sit."

William nodded slightly, walked over, and asked, "How is Michelle?"

"Pneumonia. When I arrived, her fever was over 40 degrees, so I immediately called 911 to take her to the hospital." As a doctor, Madison spoke calmly about Michelle's condition, but her furrowed brows revealed her unease and worry.

She looked at William and asked, "William, did you have a fight with Michelle? Is that why she's not telling you anything?"

William nodded. "Aunt Madison, I'm sorry; I neglected Michelle."

This time, regardless of whether Michelle's illness was intentional or unintentional, as her fiancé, he didn't know she had been sick for several days, even running a high fever of over 40 degrees and falling into a coma. It was indeed his fault.

Madison said softly, "Michelle has always been a bit stubborn since she was young, perhaps she was upset with you, that's why she didn't tell you anything." Noticing the guilt on William's face, Madison smiled lovingly and reassured him, "I know, with your maturity, stability, and good temper, you wouldn't intentionally make her unhappy. It's likely her own issues that caused this. You're busy every day, so it's normal to overlook things. Don't blame yourself."

William asked Madison, "Has the admission procedures been completed? I'll take care of it."

"I've already taken care of it," Madison answered.

"Then rest for a while. I'll have someone prepare food for you, and I'll stay with Michelle," William said considerately.

"Okay." Madison nodded with a smile. "She might need to stay in the hospital for a few days. I rushed over and didn't bring anything, so I'll go back and pack her a change of clothes and toiletries."

"I'll have someone accompany you," William instructed Lily, who was standing at the door.

"Okay." Lily nodded and made a respectful gesture to Madison. "Mrs. Shen, please."

Madison nodded and left with Lily.

After Madison left, William pulled up a chair and sat by the bedside, quietly watching Michelle, who was still unconscious.

He knew that falling in love with Michelle was something that would never happen.

Back in Mapleleafia, when Jasper had hit her while driving under the influence, she felt like just a simple and pretty girl in front of him, but he had felt nothing for her. Now, after more than seven years, he knew very well what kind of person Michelle was, so how could he possibly fall in love with her?

But marriage didn't necessarily have to be based on love. Love was not everything of life.

It's better for Hayden to lose him than lose the most important loved ones by her side.
Hayden had never given up on him until now, simply because she believed she still had a chance.

Perhaps only when he got married would she completely give up, stop torturing herself, and return to the carefree Hayden she once was.

"William." William was suddenly pulled from his thoughts by a faint murmur. He looked at Michelle and realized she was awake.
