Chapter 225

Chapter 225

Teresa fixed him with a stern warning, "Remember this, Gabriel, no matter who or what comes along, I will never betray you. But if you ever doubt me again, I will not hesitate to file for divorce." She was determined not to let such an incident happen a second time.

"Sweetheart, do you trust me then? Trust that whatever I do, it's just because I love you too much," Gabriel implored, his eyes burning brightly with sincerity.

"Don't get too confident thinking you can do anything under the guise of your love for me," Teresa retorted with a playful scowl.

Gabriel nodded and kissed her forehead passionately, "I promise I'll never make unilateral decisions again. I'll always consult with you first," he vowed.

"Good," Teresa nodded and leaned in to kiss his cheek.

With her initiative, Gabriel could barely contain himself and bent to capture her lips.

However, Teresa was quick, raising her hand to block him, "You're exhausted. Rest for a while."

"Do you feel sorry for me?" he asked, unable to kiss her lips and kissing her hand instead.

"Yes, I do." No longer hiding her feelings, she urged, "Sleep. I'll stay by your side."

Looking at her, Gabriel's heart stirred uncontrollably, "Sweetheart, I love you."

"Mhm," Teresa smiled back, "I know."

"What's that?" Gabriel pressed, bubbling with the joy of a child.

"I love you too, now sleep!" she insisted, gently covering his eyes with her hand, urging him to rest.

His lips curved into a smile. After days and nights without proper rest, Gabriel, now overcome with happiness and sweet relief, wrapped Teresa in his arms, closed his eyes, and quickly drifted off to sound sleep.

Teresa lay in his embrace, feeling his breathing becoming steady and light. With a tender touch, she traced the distinct contours of his face through the air.

Gabriel was a sight for sore eyes, and the more you looked at him, the more handsome he seemed. Not a single one could hold a candle to Gabriel among all the men she'd ever met.

However, in just under half a month, he had noticeably lost weight, and his facial features, brows, and eyes became even more pronounced.

So, for the past couple of weeks, it seemed they were both torturing themselves, and in the end, they even lost a child.

A loss that was not worth the sacrifice. She wouldn't make such a mistake again.

Clang!
"Daddy, Mommy."

Just then, the room door burst open, and Michael's sweet voice immediately followed. Teresa turned her head and saw it was Sophia and Michael.

"Shh!" Fearing she might wake Gabriel, Teresa quickly gestured to Michael to be quiet.

Holding the little guy's hand, Sophia saw Gabriel sleeping soundly next to Teresa and quickly bent down to whisper to Michael, "Daddy's sleeping. We've got to talk quietly."

Michael hadn't seen Gabriel for several days. Following Sophia's cue and craning his neck to get a better look at Gabriel, he mimicked the quiet gesture, looking absolutely adorable.

Teresa beamed at her son, then glanced at the man beside her who hadn't stirred and was still deeply asleep. Worrying that her chat with Michael might awaken him, she gently extracted herself from his embrace and slid out of bed, lifting the covers.

Sophia rushed over to stop her.

"Sweetheart!" But before Sophia could get there, Gabriel woke up, pulling Teresa back into his arms in a grip that felt like a child, afraid to lose his most precious treasure. Blinking his eyes, he looked at Teresa and asked, "Where are you going?"

Turning to face him, Teresa couldn't help but laugh and cry at the same time.

"Daddy!" At the sight of Gabriel awake, Michael immediately shouted in excitement and scrambled onto the bed with arms and legs flailing.

Hearing his voice, Gabriel turned and smiled upon seeing Sophia with Michael. He sat up, letting go of Teresa, and greeted Sophia warmly. Then, reaching out, he scooped the little guy onto the bed.

Watching the couple reconcile felt like the world was right again, and Sophia let out a sigh of relief and smiled, "I'll leave Michael here with you so the three of you can be together. I've got other things to take care of."

"Thanks, Sophia, you've been such a great help these past few days!" Gabriel said, cradling his son and grinning at Sophia, his voice dripping with sweetness.

Gabriel often gave Katherine, his own mother, the cold shoulder, but he always had a special warmth for his mother-in-law, Sophia.

Sophia, not surprisingly, adored her son-in-law. There wasn't a single thing about him she could fault.

"Don’t mention it!" Sophia chuckled, "As long as you're all doing well, I couldn't be happier, no matter how tired I am." She offered Teresa a few more words of advice before departing.

However, as she was leaving the hospital, a familiar silhouette caught her eye heading toward the outpatient building; it was Diana.

During the three years in Jena, Diana had taken such good care of Teresa and the little one, and for that, Sophia was profoundly grateful. She almost considered Diana as another daughter, offering her care and concern.

Worried that Diana might not be feeling well upon seeing her enter the outpatient building, Sophia quickly followed to check on her.

She trailed behind and saw Diana inquiring about something at the nurse's station. After getting an answer, Diana headed straight into the Obstetrics and Gynecology department.

"Diana!" Sophia called out from a short distance away.

Diana felt a shiver run down her spine at the familiar voice and immediately turned around. Spotting Sophia a few meters back, she hurriedly stuffed the medical report into her coat pocket.
