Chapter 40 Won't Abort the Child
The weekend loomed, and Liam had everything arranged. He'd secured a spot at a reputable private clinic to address Teresa's situation. They were set to leave early, but as they prepared, Liam's phone began to buzz incessantly on the coffee table.
Liam was in the shower, and Teresa, sensing urgency, hesitated but then picked up. It was Yvonne, Liam's mother. Teresa's heart sank as she answered.
Before she could speak, Yvonne's voice, laced with fury, filled the room. "Liam, is it true? Is Teresa carrying someone else's child?" The accusations and contempt poured through the phone, branding Teresa as a disgrace unworthy of the Evans family name.
Teresa, stunned into silence, barely noticed Liam emerging from the bathroom. His mother's harsh words echoed in her ears, sealing her decision.
She handed Liam the phone with a resolute declaration, "I'm keeping the baby," and fled the suite.
Liam was confused and concerned, so he followed her to the elevator. "Why won't you listen?" he almost begged her.
Teresa, tears pouring. "There's nothing left to discuss," she said, breaking free from his embrace as the elevator doors slid shut.
Back at her apartment, Teresa crumbled into Diana's arms, and began to cry. She confessed the baby wasn't Liam's, and they had broken up.
Diana, despite her shock, but still supported her friend's choice to keep the child, she even offered to be the child’s godmother.
Meanwhile, in River North City, Liam had missed Gabriel and Unity's wedding. He delivered a lavish gift and a donation to their business showing a gesture of goodwill.
Visiting Gabriel's office, Liam found his friend preoccupied with work. They exchanged banter, with Gabriel poking fun at Liam's devotion to Teresa and Liam inquiring about Gabriel's shotgun marriage.
Unity interrupted, flaunting her new status and the golden baby she was carrying. Liam, uncomfortable with the display, made a quick exit.
After Unity's failed attempt to play the doting wife, Gabriel made it clear that she was unwelcome in his office. The marriage was a facade, and Unity's presence was merely a formality.
Gabriel's order to bar her from his office was a silent testament to the chasm between them.
