Chapter 42 Baby, Don't Go
Unity's heart skipped a beat when she heard, "Your husband's here." She stiffened, her mind was struggling to make sense of those words.
The housekeeper and the bodyguard sensed the presence of someone important, looked down to the lobby and respectfully murmured, "Young Master."
Attentions drawn back to the reality, Unity's eyes found Gabriel at the bottom of the staircase, the epitome of elegance with one hand in his pocket. His gaze swept from Teresa to Unity, and toke in Unity's shock without a hint of his own emotions.
As he ascended, Unity's expression froze, her usual smile was absent. She was puzzled. Gabriel had been distant since their wedding, and now here he was, looking at her with an uncharacteristically tender gaze.
Gabriel, masking his thoughts, commented on her carelessness in walking and reached for her hand with a slight smile left Unity speechless.
Teresa, with a graceful nod to Gabriel, excused herself, leaving Unity to her husband's unexpected visit.
Gabriel's inquiry about her well-being was laced with a chilling edge, sending shivers down Unity's spine. Before she could respond, Gabriel briskly instructed the staff to take her home, revealing that their protective roles doubled as surveillance.
Unity's attempt to discuss their evening plans was cut short by Gabriel's focus on her pregnancy. His playful demeanor shifted abruptly to coldness as he insisted she return alone.
Once Unity left, Gabriel's attention turned to Teresa, who failed to call a cab. He offered a ride, and despite her protests, Teresa found herself in the back of his car, their conversation was getting tense as Gabriel's fascination with her was clear.
The drive was filled with confrontation of emotions and untold truths. When Teresa demanded to stop the car, Gabriel's reaction was swift and possessive, pulling her into an embrace that ended with Teresa in pain, clutching her abdomen.
Gabriel's concern was palpable as he ordered the driver to rush to the hospital, his attitude was out of a mix of fear and tenderness. Despite Teresa's resistance, he held her close, promising that everything would be okay.
In that moment of vulnerability, Gabriel couldn't understand the depth of his concern for Teresa and her unborn child, a child that’s not his. His feelings for Teresa had grown beyond control, extending to the life she carried.
Teresa, consumed by pain and fear for her baby, silently pleaded for the child's safety, regretting her past thoughts of ending the pregnancy. As she lay in Gabriel's arms, all she could hope for was that her baby would be safe.
