Chapter 9 I’m not a bad guy
Teresa had drunken too much, once she got on the car, she fell asleep immediately.
Instead of taking her home, Liam took her to his apartment.
This was Teresa's inaugural visit to his place since their relationship began, it was three months ago.
Liam had been introduced to Teresa six months earlier by Ethan during a visit to the foreign language college.
The moment he laid eyes on Teresa, he fell in love with her.
It was a classic case of love at first sight.
Yet, Teresa did not feel the same as first.
After a three-month chasing game, she finally said yes to be his girlfriend.
Liam carried her to the spacious bed in his bedroom and began to dampen a towel to cleanse her face. However, he saw something that he shouldn’t have, the bruises on her body.
As a mature man with a history of relationships, he recognized such marks all too well.
He unbuttoned her shirt a bit more, there were even more. Seeing those marks, Liam was petrified.
He had always seen Teresa as a pure and innocent girl, and hence had maintained a respectful distance throughout their three months together. But now, it seemed she had shared her passion with someone else too.
The impact of his body on the bed caused a slight tremor, rousing Teresa from her drowsy state. Her eyes fluttered open slowly.
The unfamiliar room brought her to full consciousness, and the events of the previous night rushed back to her mind. Relief washed over her as she noticed Liam beside the bed.
She instinctively sat up and reached for him.
“Liam, where are we?” Teresa's voice trembled with fear as she sought comfort in Liam’s arms.
But Liam, gazing down at her, began to detach her from his embrace.
“What were you doing last night?”
“Liam, I…”
“The marks on you need to be explained. Don't try to conceal the truth.” Liam interrupted her before she could continue.
Teresa looked down and realized for the first time that two of her buttons were undone. In a swift motion, she covered her chest with her hands.
“So you're out there freely with others, yet you treat me as if I'm a bad guy?”
“I'm sorry, Liam, I…”
“Leave it, there’s nothing to explain, just go away.” Perhaps it was his profound love and care that made the disappointment and emptiness he felt in that moment so unbearable.
Teresa’s eyes brimmed with tears as she reached for Liam's hand. “Liam, please listen to me, it’s not what you think…”
“There's no need to say anything, just go!”
Liam forcefully withdrew his hand, his voice was thunderous. He rose swiftly and strode away, leaving Teresa to deal with his anger.
She trembled uncontrollably. Even if she had been willing to explain, it seemed Liam wasn’t willing to listen at all.
With a deep breath, Teresa wiped away her tears, got up from the bed, and walked out of the room.
