Chapter 457 William and Hayden (58)
He and Hayden were together as a couple. They didn't show off their relationship, but they didn't keep it a secret either. Many of their classmates knew about it, even though it wasn't openly talked about.
"Hayden?!" The classmate on the phone thought for a moment, "I think she got drunk. When we left, she was passed out on the couch in Jasper's living room."
— Drunk and asleep!
The classmate's words hit William like a deep charge, blowing him to bits instantly.
So, the sounds he had just heard...
"Alright, I got it, thank you!"
Struggling, William managed to say those words and hung up the phone. His hand, at his side, slowly clenched into a fist, making cracking noises.
If it was really Hayden, and she was calling out Jasper's name so clearly and deliberately, how could she possibly be drunk?
If she was drunk and still managed to call out Jasper's name so distinctly, there was only one thing that it could mean.
Hayden's heart had always belonged to Jasper, not him.
William pondered how Hayden and Jasper had been friends since childhood, growing up like siblings, and how their families shared similar status and influence. If they had always been fond of each other...
These thoughts nearly drove William insane; he couldn't bear to continue down that line of thinking.
No matter how compatible Jasper and Hayden seemed, regardless of their families' compatibility, William had to trust that Hayden would never betray him. Just recently, she had even offered him her dowry to invest in a business.
If she didn't love him with all her heart, how could she do such a thing?
So, he had to trust Hayden, and he had to trust her.
But then, that situation just now...
No!
William halted his mind from jumping to unfounded conclusions and asked the driver to hurry back to his apartment...
...
In Jasper's apartment, Michelle watched Jasper completely pass out into slumber. She got up and rubbed her sore waist.
Her only miscalculation today was not finding another girl for Jasper, resulting in her suffering.
Now, she hurt all over at the slightest move.
But she couldn't worry about that; she had to position Hayden next to Jasper.
Otherwise, all the meticulous planning she had done over the past few days would be wasted, and William, Jasper, or Hayden wouldn't forgive her. So, there was no room for failure in this mission.
Bearing the pain wracking her body, Michelle mustered all her strength and finally managed to drag a completely disheveled Hayden onto Jasper's bed and into his arms.
After setting up the scene perfectly, Hayden's clothes lay scattered from the bedroom door to the edge of the large bed. She swiftly got dressed and rushed away.
...
The journey from the airport to William's apartment lasted over an hour. Despite the driver pushing the car to its maximum speed, it still took nearly forty minutes to reach the destination.
As the car came to a stop outside the apartment building, William got out, itching to rush up and see the situation for himself.
However, reason urged him to remain composed and collected. Taking deep breaths, he struggled to manage his emotions, entered the building, pressed the elevator button, and stepped inside.
As the floor numbers climbed swiftly, William's heart nearly choked him, rising to his throat.
When the elevator softly chimed, signaling his arrival on the floor of his and Jasper's apartment, William felt like his heart might burst out of his chest.
Closing his eyes for a moment to muster his composure, he waited for the elevator doors to open slowly. He stepped out and approached Jasper's apartment door, pressing the doorbell.
After a lengthy wait without a response, William knew the access code to Jasper's apartment because he'd entered it many times before.
Without further hesitation, he keyed in the code and entered.
The moment he pushed the door open, a faint scent of luxury and a strong odor of alcohol hit him.
As he walked through the foyer, William took in the disorder in the expansive apartment. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a familiar light-colored cashmere sweater near the entrance to the bedroom. In an instant, William's pupils narrowed, and it felt as if his heart had stopped beating.
That was Hayden's sweater; he recognized it.
But it didn't rule out the possibility that among the women who had come over today, someone could be wearing the same kind of cashmere sweater.
Forcing himself to remain calm, William took strides slowly toward the bedroom.
Though the distance from the foyer to the bedroom was merely twenty or thirty meters, each step felt excruciatingly difficult and painful for William.
He kept telling himself internally that if a woman truly was lying in bed with Jasper, it definitely couldn't be Hayden.
However, when he reached the bedroom door and caught sight of the scene on the large bed, all his mental preparation proved futile. Any determination he had mustered collapsed instantly, leaving him defeated and overwhelmed.
At that moment, on the messy king-sized bed, who else could be lying together but Hayden and Jasper? The covers barely concealed their lower halves as they embraced, deep in slumber.
William's tightly wound nerves snapped in an instant. His heart felt as if it had burst, spewing blood in every direction. He nearly lost control, stumbling backward a step.
Despite the loud ringing of the doorbell, they remained undisturbed. Were they too heavily intoxicated or simply too exhausted to awaken to such noise?
William lingered at the door, fixated on the couple nestled in each other's embrace for several moments. Slowly, he lifted his hand, shut his eyes, and massaged his face. Finally, he inhaled deeply, seeking calmness.
When he opened his eyes again, the pain and anger that had filled them were pressed down, leaving only calm, as if nothing had happened.
