Chapter 276 The Chocolate Cake
Teresa frowned in spite of herself, a flicker of sympathy crossing her face.
Such foolishness. If only he had known what would come, he might have chosen differently. Did anyone really believe they could challenge the clout of the Garcia family?
"Retrieve the chocolate cake," Gabriel ordered coldly, his gaze unmoving as he watched Brian double over in pain, continuously rolling on the floor after a fierce kick.
"Right away, sir," the bodyguard acknowledged, then swiftly left to handle the task.
The chocolate cake.
‘What in the world was the chocolate cake?’
Curious, Teresa waited until Gabriel turned and walked back to her before asking, "Honey, what's this 'chocolate cake'?"
"Curious?" Gabriel asked with a knowing smile as he reached over and enveloped her smaller hand with his large one.
Teresa nodded.
"You'll find out soon enough."
Teresa was speechless.
‘It couldn't possibly be a dog, could it?’
As Brian writhed and howled in agony on the floor, Teresa empathized silently with his plight.
In no time, the bodyguard returned, indeed leading a dog into the room.
But this was no ordinary dog. It was a large, sleek-coated German Shepherd.
‘Good Lord! Where did the Garcias keep such a massive beast, and how had she not heard of it?’
Teresa's surprise was cut short when the bodyguard let go of the leash, and the dog they called "chocolate cake" lunged toward Brian, who lay curled on the ground, barely moving, with a resounding bark.
"Ahh!"
Brian, realizing the danger, screamed in terror and scrambled to his feet to flee.
But it was too late.
Chocolate Cake pounced, seizing Brian, who had just managed to get up and hadn't even started to run, biting down fiercely on the spot where Gabriel had kicked him, already bloody...
In that moment, Gabriel pulled Teresa into his arms, gently cupping the back of her head and pressing her face into his chest to shield her from the brutal, bloody scene.
"Aahh..."
The blood-curdling screams once again pierced the air throughout the building, sending chills down one's spine, indescribably painful.
Listening, Teresa thought back to the last moment she had witnessed and could guess where Chocolate Cake had bitten Brian.
If a dog like Chocolate Cake bit down hard, Brian's injury would be catastrophic, beyond help, even if the most skillful doctor were to arrive now.
Was Gabriel going too far?
"Darling..." Teresa felt uneasy, trying to look up.
But Gabriel gently held the back of her head, preventing her from seeing the gruesome scene. His voice deep and authoritative, he commanded his bodyguard, "Take him away and stop the bleeding."
"Yes, sir."
The bodyguards responded immediately, moving in to grab hold of Chocolate Cake and drag the unresponsive Brian across the floor—he appeared half-dead, whether from shock or pain.
At that moment, Brian's blood was flowing relentlessly. He was ashen and barely clinging to life, unable to utter a sound.
The guards left with the dog in tow, and Brian was dragged behind, leaving a trail of bloodstains on the ground.
"Darling, did we go too far?"
Finally, as the men were taken away, Gabriel let go of Teresa. She lifted her head and shivered at the sight of the bloodstains before looking up at him.
"Without a harsh lesson from the start, he would keep coming back to hurt you, just like Dakota did, always playing the odds." Gabriel raised his hands to gently cradle her cheeks, leaning down to kiss her lips softly, "Sweetheart, Brian brought this upon himself. He doesn't deserve your pity."
Teresa bit her lip and nodded at him.
"Let's go back to the main house."
"Okay." She nodded again and walked with Gabriel toward the main residence.
Back at the main house, Gabriel acted as if nothing had disturbed him, happily playing with Croissant. Katherine was oblivious to the earlier events and was quite pleased to see them back so early.
It wasn't until the Christine couple arrived, having been summoned by Gabriel, that Katherine's confusion surfaced. She immediately questioned Gabriel and Teresa about what had happened.
Without saying much, Gabriel simply ordered the video recorded in Teresa's office to be shown to them.
There was no need to alert Mason and Raymond to the situation. The only reason Katherine was being informed was that the other party involved was a close relative of hers.
All three watched the video in horror, and Christine's complexion turned pallid.
"That damned fool!" With a face like thunder, her husband burst out in rage after the video ended, "Where is he? I won't rest until I beat him senseless today."
"My God... Gabriel, ...Teresa, is this... is this real?"
Christine glanced at her husband, still unable to believe the video she had seen was real. Her face was as pale as a sheet, and she stuttered a question to Gabriel and Teresa.
"What do you think, Christine?" Gabriel and Teresa sat across from them, smirking as they replied with a playful twist of their lips.
At this moment, their child was out playing with the nanny. Such a conversation was not suitable for young ears. It was best that the child wasn't present.
"How could your son behave like this, Christine?" Katherine, now realizing the truth, was shaking with rage. "He always seemed so polite and respectful, and now, behind our backs, he's this vile and malicious? Scheming after Teresa and even wishing for our dear Gabriel to be gone?"
She had only one son, Gabriel, the apple of her eye, and the mere mention of his name in the same breath as 'death' twisted her heart in agony.
"Sister, listen to me—we had no idea about any of this. It was all his doing. We are completely unaware and innocent of these schemes!" Christine quickly burst into tears as she tried to explain.
