Chapter 582: Absurd Matters

“Michelle。”

The next day, in the CEO's office on the top floor of the Bennett Group Office Building, the secretary saw Michelle coming out of the elevator and immediately stood up, respectfully addressing her.
Now, Michelle is the well-known future successor of the Bennett Group, and no one dares to disrespect her within the group.
However, Michelle was a rather shrewd person and would never use her status to cause trouble for others in the company. Therefore, everyone in the company, from top to bottom, quite liked her.

Walking over, Michelle gently smiled at the secretary and asked, "Is William's office empty?"

"No, you can just go straight in," the secretary said with a smile.

"Okay, thank you." Michelle smiled brightly, thanked him, and then walked straight to William's office with the documents in hand.

"William, there's something I have to make clear to you. Back when you were being chased by Hall in Imperial Capital and sought help from my dad, did you promise my dad something incredibly absurd?"

However, as Michelle was about to reach the door of William's office, Jasper's voice came from the open office.

Has Jasper arrived? Why doesn't she know?
What chase? Hall? What absurd thing?

Michelle furrowed her brows and immediately stopped at the office door.
In the office, William was typing quickly on his computer screen, completely unaware of someone outside. He spoke into his phone, which was on speaker mode, saying, "I did promise, but it's not absurd."

"You chose Michelle and gave up Hayden just because you promised my dad?" The perplexed voice of Jasper continued to come through on the phone.

"No," William continued to type rapidly, responding indifferently.

It would have been better if he had explained things to Jasper clearly to prevent Jasper from blaming himself, because William knew why Mason had asked him to agree to such a request in the first place.

"Why is that?" Jasper pressed, "Is it because Hayden chose to have an abortion initially, causing you to lose a child?"

This thing happened because Nico accidentally let it slip and told Jasper.

Outside, Michelle listened and couldn't help but be surprised again.

Did William and Hayden already have a child? However, Hayden chose to have an abortion.

"No."

"The child had been in her womb for over five months at that time. It is indeed regrettable that she chose to have an abortion, but there must have been compelling reasons for her decision at that time. You shouldn't torment yourself over this matter, Jasper. It's not necessary!" Jasper's voice of confusion continued.

Five months pregnant, Hayden chose to have an abortion.
Michelle listened, a sneer of contempt curling in her heart.
No wonder Hayden is now pregnant with William's child, yet William's attitude towards her remains so cold. He even hesitated to propose to her. Now we know the reason behind it.

William replied to an important email before picking up his phone. As soon as he said, "You're talking too much nonsense today. It's okay, I'll hang up," he was about to end the call.

"Wait a moment, the last sentence." However, immediately, Jasper called out, "My dad said that the promise you made to him before is null and void. You don't need to keep thinking about it. Don't do things that will make you regret later."

William listened, a smirk playing on his lips, and without saying anything more, he simply hung up the phone.
Outside the door, after hearing William hang up the phone, Michelle paused for about ten seconds before knocking on the door.

Seeing her, William's eyes dimmed slightly, but a gentle curve lifted at the corner of his mouth.
Michelle walked straight in and approached his desk, handing him the documents in her hands. "Here are the financial statements from the past two months," she said.

William nodded and took it, "Sit."

Michelle smiled, sat down, and looked at William, who was reading the documents with his head down. She gently said, "After the new year, it will be Teresa's big day to get married. I still don't know what to wear to attend her wedding."

William listened, lifting his head from the documents, still smiling gently as he said, "After work, I'll accompany you to pick out a few suits."

"Will this delay you?" Michelle asked considerately.

"Of course not."
Michelle happily agreed, "I'll come up to see you after I get off work."

"Okay."

After work, William accompanied Michelle to pick out a few formal dresses and also bought some jewelry. Later, they had dinner together before William took Michelle back home.
The apartment where Michelle currently lives was bought and gifted to her by William.

Because Michelle had picked out several outfits and jewelry, William couldn't let her go upstairs alone with everything, so he carried the items for her.
However, after dropping Michelle off at the apartment, not even staying for a while, William put the things in Michelle's room and then decided to leave.

"William." Just as he was about to leave, Michelle grabbed his hand and looked at him, pleading, "It's so late, can you not go and stay with me instead?"

William looked at her, gave a gentle smile, raised his hand and lightly patted the back of her hand, saying, "I have a video conference later, so I won't stay."

Watching him, Michelle just wouldn't let go. "William, we're engaged, but you've never made love to me. Why?"

Watching Michelle, since she brought up the question, William decided not to evade it. He took a deep breath and said, "Michelle, if it weren't for your parents saving my life back then, do you think I would have married you?"

Watching him, Michelle suddenly couldn't pretend anymore. For the first time, she felt like she had slapped herself hard in the face, feeling extremely wronged as she said, "So, being with me, getting engaged to me, marrying me, was all just to repay the debt of gratitude to my parents for saving your life?"

William's handsome brows furrowed slightly, "Mostly, but not entirely."

"What else is there, to retaliate against Hayden?" Michelle questioned, no longer pretending to be ignorant.

"It was just perfect timing that you appeared by my side."

Watching him, Michelle smiled, her lips curling up, tears suddenly streaming down her face. "William, but I love you. From the beginning until now, all these years, the only person I have ever loved in my heart is you."

Watching her, William let out a barely audible sigh and gently said, "I know, just give me some time to adjust slowly."
Michelle loved him, that was for sure, otherwise she wouldn't have hesitated to rush over and shield him from the knife without a second thought.
Looking at William, since he said so, Michelle, being so shrewd, of course knew when to stop. She immediately broke into a smile, rushed over, and hugged William, saying affectionately, "Alright, I'll wait. William, no matter how long it takes, I'll wait. As long as you don't leave, I'm willing to wait for a lifetime."

William reluctantly reached out and gave her a hug, gently saying, "Alright, it's getting late. I should go. Get some rest."

"Okay." Michelle nodded obediently, then released William and saw him off.
