Chapter295
"All right." Faith nodded graciously, her smile still warm and considerate, "You should also get some rest."
"Yeah." Liam nodded, shared a parting smile with Faith, and then left.
Once inside the elevator, his previously friendly expression instantly darkened.
"How's Lauren?" Liam asked in a grave tone as he stepped out and saw Diana waiting.
"She attempted suicide by slashing her wrists, and there's a picture," Diana reported, matching pace with Liam and handing him his phone.
At tonight's celebration dinner, it wouldn't have been appropriate for Liam to carry his cell phone, so Thomas had been holding onto it. It was only before Thomas dashed off to Willow Heights that he handed the phone to Diana.
Diana was stunned and couldn't recover her senses for a long while after learning from Thomas that Lauren had attempted suicide by slitting her wrists inside a villa at Willow Heights.
It was beyond her why Lauren, an energetic and optimistic 19-year-old, would take her life over Liam's engagement to another woman.
Could it be that Lauren naively believed Liam would marry her?
Reflecting on her situation, Diana felt incredibly fortunate at that moment.
Though she hadn't won Liam's love, and there was no chance of a relationship with him, at least she could maintain a harmonious connection with him as a subordinate.
When Liam checked his phone, he opened the messaging app. The first image he saw was of Lauren in a bathtub, her veins slashed, and the water-stained crimson. His complexion turned even paler.
Not only had Thomas and Diana failed to predict such an obsession, but Lauren's actions blindsided Liam.
He had always seen Lauren as an agreeable and easy-to-handle woman.
Yet, she was the most troublesome of all the women he'd been with.
After a glance, he deleted all the messages exchanged between him and Lauren, pocketed his phone, and got into the car.
"Liam, where to?" the driver asked respectfully from the front seat.
"Willow Heights," Liam instructed wearily, leaning back into the seat.
"Yes, sir."
"No, the estate," he changed his mind abruptly.
No matter if Lauren was using her death as a threat, nothing would be different. He could not indulge her.
From his first encounter with women, except for Teresa, who could make him relent repeatedly, no other woman had softened his heart or swayed his decisions.
Hearing Liam's sudden change of plans, Diana, sitting in the passenger seat, couldn't help but be taken aback and involuntarily turned to look at him.
Fortunately, Liam had already closed his eyes, resting against the seat, and hadn't noticed her reaction.
Diana's heart settled into a profound sense of equilibrium and relief at that moment.
Aside from Teresa, it wasn't just her. He was ruthless with every woman.
.......
"Where did Liam go?"
At the hotel's penthouse, Faith stood before the windows of the Presidential Suite's living room. Her gaze drifted across the glittering city lights, and she casually asked her bodyguard, who was standing behind her.
Liam was the kind of man who, aside from Teresa, had never had a publicly acknowledged girlfriend.
But he was a regular man, with all the urges of being one.
Which meant that he must've sought out women to fulfill those needs.
The odds were that Liam kept a few secrets away without an official girlfriend.
Faith wasn't clueless. Before deciding to be with him, she'd done her homework.
Fortunately, other than his known ex Teresa, while Liam had his share of flings, they were all one-on-one—no juggling multiple women at the same time.
After all, it's not unusual for a man to have a history with a few women before marriage, especially someone like Liam. Women probably threw themselves at him anyway.
So, Faith didn't mind.
All she cared about was that he stay faithful after their engagement.
"The route he took should lead back to the Evans family estate," reported the bodyguard respectfully.
Faith nodded, pondered for a moment, and then inquired, "What about Lauren? Is she still at the Willow Heights villa? Has she reached out to Liam again?"
"Lauren is still in the Willow Heights villa. Just recently, an ambulance was called there. It seems Lauren attempted suicide by slashing her wrists," the bodyguard answered.
Hmm...
Faith couldn't help but let out a scornful chuckle.
She might have seen her as a threat if Lauren's parents had not fallen from grace.
But now? Lauren was insignificant.
Why perform a suicide act now? It was pointless.
She was curious to see how long Lauren would last and how Liam would handle her.
"Keep an eye on Lauren. Let me know immediately if Liam goes to see her," Faith instructed coolly.
"Yes, Miss."
