Chapter 459 William and Hayden (60)
As Jasper reached the bedroom doorway, he saw an angry William storm in.
Jasper attempted to explain, but William refused to listen. He pushed Jasper aside and then went straight into his bedroom, heading for bed.
William reached the bed and yanked off the messy covers, searching for something.
"What are you doing?" Jasper followed, utterly confused.
Disregarding Jasper, William's sharp gaze scanned the bed and checked beneath the covers.
Soon, he spotted a strand of black hair that was nearly as long as Hayden's but not quite wrapped inside the blanket—definitely a woman's hair.
Immediately, he picked up the strand.
Seeing the hair in William's hand, Jasper became even more puzzled. "What do you want with the hair?"
"Apart from Hayden, which another woman has been in your bed or bedroom?" William asked, squinting at Jasper.
Jasper shook his head. "Nobody! You know I like to have fun, but I never bring women back to my apartment. Plus, the housekeeping staff changed all the bedding just this morning—I'm a clean freak; I can't stand it when bedding isn't changed at least every other day."
As Jasper spoke, William's gaze narrowed further, intensifying his search around the bedside. He found another strand of a woman's hair on the edge of the pillow. Jasper wasn't naive. Seeing William persistently looking for strands of a woman's hair, he quickly understood something.
With a quick hand to his forehead, he exclaimed happily. "You're planning to take these hairs for a DNA test to see if they belong to Hayden, right?"
After retrieving another hair from the pillow, William glanced at Jasper calmly and said sternly, "Before the results are in, I don't want you to mention a single word of this to Hayden."
With that, he turned and left.
Watching him go, Jasper slapped his forehead again.
Damn it!
Could it be that he and Hayden had been framed?
Who would set them up, Michelle?
If so, why?
...
"William......."
The next day, just after eight a.m., Hayden woke up with a splitting headache. Fortunately, as soon as she looked up, she saw the very familiar and handsome face above her.
William held her as if nothing had happened, his gaze tender and adoring as he leaned down to kiss her forehead. "Does your head hurt? Go freshen up, and I will make you some honey water."
However, Hayden seemed hesitant as she shook her head and held onto him tightly. Her voice was gentle and very sweet as she spoke softly, saying, "What time did you come back last night? I didn't notice at all."
Watching Hayden, who seemed just as usual, showing no sign of distress and even more tender than before, William smiled, kissed the top of her head, and said, "I got back just after eleven. You had passed out at Jasper's place; I carried you here."
Listening to him, Hayden frowned slightly, murmuring, "I didn't drink much last night, and by my standard tolerance, I shouldn't have been knocked out like that!"
The speaker didn't mean anything by it, but the listener might read into it.
Hayden's murmur immediately caused William's brow to furrow.
Hayden could handle alcohol well, which he had seen before. If she hadn't really drunk much the night before but still slept deeply without reacting to his movements, it's possible she was drugged.
If that was the case, then everything made sense.
However, once the DNA test results were in, everything could be concluded.
"Maybe you were just exhausted." After a short break, William softly rubbed Hayden's temples, indicating, "Why don't you lie down a bit longer? I'll make that honey water for you and give you a massage afterward."
Hayden shook her head, "What time is it?"
"It's just after eight."
"Is it past eight already?!" Hayden exclaimed, quickly stepping out of William's embrace. "I've got an important class this morning; I can't be late."
William glanced at her and smiled before sitting up and gently ruffling her long hair, "Alright, I'll go get breakfast ready."
...
"Good morning, Hayden. Are you alright?"
Fortunately, William's apartment was close to the college, and with William driving her, Hayden made it to the classroom before class began.
Michelle was momentarily surprised when she saw Hayden enter, her usual cheerful self with no sign of trouble. However, Michelle swiftly composed herself and waved to get Hayden's attention.
With no one else by her side, Hayden sat down next to Michelle, took off her backpack, and began taking things out, all while smiling. "What could be wrong with me?"
"Weren't you plastered and crashed at Jasper's place last night?" Michelle laughed, keeping her gaze fixed on Hayden.
While fetching items from her bag, Hayden glanced at Michelle and responded with a smile, "William got back after eleven last night."
"Oh," Michelle responded with a laugh. "It's a good thing William made it back last night. Otherwise, sleeping on the couch would have been super uncomfortable."
Hayden smiled and didn't give it much thought, but then she looked at Michelle again and commented, "That turtleneck sweater doesn't really suit you. Maybe skip it next time."
"Really?" Suddenly, Michelle covered her neck with her hand, a flicker of unease crossing her eyes. "Then I won't wear it again."
Hayden smiled faintly, not noticing Michelle's change in expression. Just then, the professor arrived, and everyone settled down as the class began.
