Chapter 427 William and Hayden (28)
He remembered that car – it was Hayden's.
He hadn't seen her in a few days, and today, when he finally did, she left in a hurry.
Could she deliberately avoid him, not wanting to see him?
With a self-deprecating chuckle, William walked toward his car parked nearby.
Meanwhile, Hayden couldn't understand why she suddenly felt so miserable, suffocated, and uncomfortable inside her white Porsche.
Without her around, had William started getting cozy with Michelle again?
What about his reputation for never having a girlfriend or being involved in any scandals? If he hadn't been with at least a handful of women, how could he possess such excellent skills in bed, knowing precisely how to touch a woman's sensitive spots?
She had thrown herself at him, and he had not hesitated to take her.
And perhaps he had slept with Michelle too, not just once.
Otherwise, how could Michelle be so obsessed with pursuing him with such determination?
Men sure do have a way of thinking with their third leg, don't they?
Fortunately, Hayden hadn't fallen for William; it was just a one-time thing.
With that thought, she chuckled to herself and drove her car back to her villa in the upscale Orion Nash neighborhood.
She had to head to the Global Trust Bank in the afternoon to sort out the paperwork for her new internship. She needed to change into more professional attire, apply light makeup, and generally spruce herself up. She couldn't afford to look too casual.
However, she couldn't help but wonder if her smooth interview and subsequent offer from Global Trust Bank had anything to do with William's influence.
‘Impossible!’
She dismissed the notion immediately.
William was just an intern, too, after all.
Besides, did she, Hayden, not possess the ability to secure an internship at a top company on her own merits?
If she lacked that ability, how could she ever expect to take over the reins from her father and claim everything that belonged to them both one day?
No, her success in landing the job had nothing to do with William.
When she arrived at the bank to complete her paperwork, HR greeted her with smiles and shared that the Deputy CEO had been very impressed by her and looked forward to the valuable contributions she could make during her internship.
After finishing with HR, they gave her a tour of the office building to familiarize her with the environment and handed her a company handbook to study; she had no tasks yet.
After dinner, Hayden took her laptop and headed to the university library.
She had to prepare a research paper and needed to look up some materials. It was her first major paper since enrollment, and she couldn't take it lightly.
What she hadn't expected was to see William once again sitting by a window when she went looking for a spot to sit down after checking out two books. And next to him was Michelle.
Were those two inseparable now?
An inexplicable irritation flared up within her.
But why should she be irritated? After all, weren't all men slaves to their primal instincts? She understood that, but she wasn't supposed to care about William. What he did was none of her concern.
Holding back her irritation, she walked past William and Michelle.
"Hayden!"
As she passed by them, Michelle's voice rang in her ear.
Hayden's brow furrowed slightly.
Though she didn't want to stop, she was Hayden, after all – not someone who shrank back or acted meek in front of others.
So she paused, turned back to face Michelle and William, and with poised confidence, lifted the corners of her lips in a smile.
William had been aware of Hayden for a while, but because she actively avoided him and didn't want to get more involved and because they were in the quiet library, he didn't see a reason to make things awkward for either of them.
So, he pretended not to see her. After all, they were both interning at Global Trust Bank, and running into each other was not difficult. It didn't require any particular effort.
However, when Michelle called out to Hayden, William had no reason to keep up his act.
He looked up and saw Hayden's calm gaze.
"Is there something you need?" Hayden asked Michelle after a brief exchange of looks with William.
"Are you here to research, too? Would you like to sit together?" Michelle asked in a calm voice, gesturing to the seat opposite her.
"No thanks, I'd rather not disturb," Hayden replied with a slight smile, leaving the words hanging in the air before she strode forward with the confidence of a queen, her dignity seemingly stretching two meters in front of her.
Michelle chuckled as Hayden walked away and then whispered to William, "Hayden doesn't seem happy. Do you know why?"
William glanced at Michelle with a half-smile and playfully responded, "Well, you're her roommate. Why don't you go and comfort her?"
It was unclear whether it was a mere coincidence or if Jasper, the blabbermouth, had told Michelle that he was at the library. Not long after he sat down, Michelle followed him and sat beside him.
As a gentleman, William let her sit beside him without protest.
Michelle was caught off guard by William's remark, her face briefly unable to hide her embarrassment. But she quickly regained her composure and said, "Hayden likes her space. She's pretty cold in the dorm, barely speaks to me, and probably doesn't think much of me, so I guess I won't bother."
