Chapter 246 There’s No Limit to Heartbreak
“Teresa.”
At the foreign language academy, Teresa finished her last class and headed downstairs, ready to head home. Gabriel was already waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs.
However, as soon as she stepped out of the academic building, Tessa chased after her, calling out her name.
“What is it?” Although deep down Teresa knew it wasn’t Tessa who had hurt Diana but Liam, she just couldn’t shake off her dislike for Tessa anymore. Her previous warm attitude toward Tessa had chilled entirely.
Confronted with Teresa’s icy demeanor, Tessa didn’t seem hurt at all. She still approached with a beaming smile, sweetly asking, “Teresa, there was something I didn’t quite get in class. Could you explain it to me again?”
“Go on,” Teresa replied frostily.
From a distance, Gabriel was sitting in his Rolls Royce, and he saw Teresa being cornered. He immediately set aside the documents he was engrossed in, opened the door, and strode towards her.
Tessa finished asking her question about the class, and upon seeing the imposing and handsome figure of Gabriel approaching, she greeted him with a wide, undiminished smile, “Hey Gabriel, long time no see!”
Gabriel had appeared in Teresa’s classes a few times before, so even though Tessa had never met Gabriel with her father before, her greeting wasn’t out of place.
But Gabriel barely glanced at her, not even a flicker of acknowledgment in his eyes. He walked right up to them, reached out his arm to wrap around Teresa, and asked her softly, with undivided attention, “Ready to go?”
“Yeah, just a second.” Teresa nodded at him, then turned back to Tessa, “Your questions have been thoroughly covered in class. If you’re confused, check a classmate’s notes or ask other teachers. I’ve got to go.” With those words, Gabriel took Teresa away in his embrace.
“Teresa,” Tessa called out, only to intercept her again with a look of utter innocence, “Teresa, do you hate me or something? Why? You used to be like a sister to all of us, no airs about you. What’s changed now?”
“That’s right, from this moment on, I can’t stand you, and I don’t want to tutor you anymore. Plus, I’ve got a short fuse, so you better not mess with me,” Teresa said without giving Tessa an ounce of dignity.
“Teresa, why?” Tessa’s voice crackled with vulnerability as she stared at Teresa, looking profoundly hurt.
Just then, a sleek black Bentley rolled up not far from them, coming to a stop about five or six feet away. The rear door swung open, and someone stepped out.
Tessa’s eyes tracked over to the newcomer, and her expression turned even more forlorn.
Liam, spotting Tessa standing pitifully between Teresa and Gabriel, furrowed his brows and strode over, giving them a nod, “Gabriel, Teresa.”
Tessa stood there, gazing longingly at Liam, too timid to call his name in front of the others.
“Better keep an eye on your little bunny before she bites,” Gabriel said drily, watching Liam.
Liam glanced at Tessa, then back at the pair, a smirk playing on his lips, but he remained silent.
“Darling, let’s go,” Teresa said, not giving Liam the time of day.
“Sure,” Gabriel nodded indulgently, wrapping his arm around her as they walked to the car, got in, and drove off.
After they were gone, Tessa climbed into the car alongside Liam. As the car started moving, she continued to gaze at him, “Liam, is Teresa jealous because I’m with you now?”
“Teresa hates you now?” Liam inquired coolly, glancing at some documents.
Tessa nodded, “She said she didn’t want to tutor me anymore.”
“Don’t worry about it. Just give her space, and you’ll be fine,” Liam said, gently stroking Tessa’s hair, “What do you feel like for dinner?”
The worry on Tessa’s face vanished in an instant, and she pondered for a moment, “How about Japanese cuisine?”
Liam nodded in agreement, “Sounds good, we’ll go with that.” Tessa giggled. “Liam, you’re really too good to me.” Without a moment’s hesitation, she swung her leg over his lap, straddling him with a playful smile. Her eyes sparkled as she gazed at him, her face a picture of faux innocence. “Do you think you’ll ever get tired of me and let me go?”
Liam leaned back into his chair, his deep eyes narrowed and voice calm, “Depends on how you behave.”
Listening to him, Tessa’s brows furrowed in thought. She slid off his lap and knelt beside his feet, her delicate hands reaching out toward his...
...
Elsewhere in the backseat of a black Rolls-Royce that had just started moving, Gabriel’s phone began to ring. Noticing he was busy with a call, Teresa pulled out her phone to catch up on that day’s current events.
Her eyes widened in shock as she tapped the news app and saw the headline glaring back at her.
“Kay Baxter found dead. Her body dumped.”
Worse yet, her body bore the signs of torture, especially... the injuries were severe, and she was nearly unrecognizable when found.
Eventually, the police confirmed it was indeed Kay Baxter.
How did she die?
Could it have had something to do with the scandal involving Gabriel that led to her industry blackout?
