Chapter 492 William and Hayden (93)

Maddox was thirty-six years old and had been hired by Finn as an elite professional. Finn appreciated him and, therefore, entrusted Hayden to his care.

Hayden looked at Maddox and smiled slightly. "You are a minister, and I am a new employee. How can I trouble a minister to familiarize me with the environment?"

Maddox nodded and said, "You're right. I'll find someone to show you around."

"Hayden," she suddenly called him seriously and solemnly.

Maddox looked at her and knew she had something to say. He nodded and said, "Please go ahead!"

"I joined the Business Department, or The Smith because I want to learn from my senior colleagues. So, I hope that Maddox can help me keep my identity a secret and guide me with the strictest requirements," Hayden said, looking particularly serious.

Maddox smiled and nodded. "Alright, as long as you don't complain to your father, I will make sure you experience the most terrifying days of your life in the Business Department."

Hayden also nodded and smiled, "Okay."

On her second day at The Smith Group, Hayden dived into the intense work.

Although she had never had a formal job before, her Southern internship gave her considerable work experience. On her first day in the Business Department, this earned her Maddox's attention.

With her professionalism at work, she could even be appointed as the manager of the Business Department.

After a week of outstanding performance, Maddox assigned her to his team and personally mentored her.

Maddox's decision was undoubtedly unprecedented and drew criticism from the department and colleagues in other departments.

You see, as the minister of the Business Department, Maddox would not personally mentor new employees. Typically, new employees were guided by their supervisors.

Above the supervisors were managers, and above the managers were deputy ministers, and only then came Maddox.

Maddox's decision meant that Hayden, a new employee who had only been in the Business Department for a week, reported directly to him and was personally mentored. It was like promoting Hayden from an ordinary employee to at least a Business Department manager position.

There were rumors that Hayden and Maddox were having an affair; Hayden had more chances to interact with Maddox than his secretary during her one week in the Business Department.

As a result, many female colleagues in the department began to isolate Hayden, and some male colleagues even started to look down on her.

However, Hayden didn't care because she was too busy daily to bother with office politics among her colleagues.

Maddox taught her so much every day that she didn't even have time to digest it all, let alone worry about rumors.

After two weeks, Maddox started taking Hayden with him to various meetings, negotiations, contract signings, and public events.

Since she often went out with Maddox, Hayden usually had meals and rode in the same car.

However, whether they were in the car or having meals, all their discussions were strictly work-related.

Maddox was genuinely attracted to Hayden's spirit, and he couldn't help but impart all his skills and knowledge to her. As a result, they spent more and more time together.

The department and the company spread more and more rumors about them.

One month after Hayden joined the Business Department, she arrived at work one day, put down her bag, and turned on her computer. She then took a cup and prepared to go to the pantry for coffee.

However, before she reached the pantry's entrance, she heard several female colleagues inside mocking and despising her.

"Yesterday, when I left work, I saw Sylvia leaving with the department head. It was already past 8 p.m. Do you think Sylvia might have spent the entire night with him in bed?"

Sylvia was her alias. Hayden had used the name Sylvia since joining the company to avoid revealing her true identity.

"She definitely didn't sleep with him before joining the company. Otherwise, how could she even work with the department head? Now she's even more powerful than the deputy department head."

"Well, that's her skill. Do you have any?"

"I don't want it. Look at her; she's naturally promiscuous. During this time, she's been going out with the department head and has signed many contracts. I guess she used her methods to secure them."

"I wonder how many men she has been with. I wonder if she has any diseases. In the future, you all need to stay away from her so you don't get infected."

"You're right. From now on, we'll walk around her when we see her."

"Diseases?" Just as one of the female colleagues happily finished speaking, Hayden walked straight in. She smiled and asked, "What diseases do I have? I wasn't aware."

Upon hearing her voice, everyone turned their heads to look. When they saw it was her, they all made disgusted and even nauseated expressions.

"So stinky." One of the female managers in her thirties sneered at Hayden, then laughed mockingly and waved her hand in front of her nose. "Let's go, find a place with fresher air."

"Yes, it stinks. Let's go somewhere else." Someone echoed and walked out immediately.

"Stop!" Just as the group of people were walking out with their respective cups, Hayden calmly and lowly spoke again, but this time with a strong sense of oppression and intimidation.

Several people paused and looked at her with immense contempt. "You are all long-term employees of The Smith Group, so you should be familiar with the things in the employee code of conduct," Hayden said, still smiling gently at everyone without a hint of anger. But she was like a queen at this moment, and her aura momentarily stunned the few individuals present.

"Sylvia, you've only been at The Smith Group for a few days, so it's not your place to lecture us." the female manager sneered at Hayden, burning with anger.

She worked hard every day, trying to please Maddox in every way possible, but she had never had the opportunity to go out with him alone or have a meal together.

Hayden, on the other hand, with just a face and a promiscuous demeanor, was able to go in and out with Maddox. How could she possibly accept this?

"Yes, I've only been at The Smith Group for a few days. How can I be qualified to lecture you old seniors?" Hayden looked at them and continued to smile gently without a trace of annoyance. But soon, she changed her tone. "However, as the Miss of The Smith Group, I qualify to lecture you all!"

If revealing her identity as the Miss of The Smith Group could make all the rumors disappear, allow her to focus more on her work, and create a better working environment for everyone, then it wouldn't be a bad thing for everyone to know her identity.

"What did you say?" The female manager was the first to be dumbfounded. Staring wide-eyed in shock, she spilled her coffee.

"Miss of the group, you?" The other person finally reacted and looked at Hayden in disbelief.

The others were completely dumbfounded and didn't move at all.

"Yes," Hayden affirmed, her gaze steady and imbued with a serene composure as her smile softly persisted. "I realize I've omitted a detail — my name is Hayden Smith."

"Smith!" The surprise etched on the female manager's face deepened significantly.

Despite the Smith sisters' penchant for discretion, their identities were not veiled in anonymity within the company.

Hayden and Jocelyn were names that resonated with familiarity among most of the company's personnel.

Hayden smiled and nodded. "I am Hayden."

"You finally decided to reveal your identity. It wasn't easy," a relaxed and teasing male voice sounded.

Everyone immediately turned to look, and it was Maddox who had come in.

"Minister," everyone quickly lowered their heads and greeted him, wishing they could just die by running into a wall.

"Minister, good morning!" Hayden greeted Maddox with a smile, displaying elegance.

"Miss, good morning." Maddox smiled and greeted Hayden, then looked at everyone solemnly and said, "This is Miss Smith from The Smith Group, who might become your boss one day. So, in the boss's presence, let's all work hard. What do you say?"

"Yes!" Everyone nodded. "The minister is right, we were wrong. We'll start working now."

After they left, only Hayden and Maddox remained. Maddox smiled and asked, "You're not angry, are you?"

Hayden laughed. "Minister, you're right. Sometimes, you can't be too low-key."

Maddox nodded. "With your talent and background, as long as you're willing to work hard, you will succeed."

Hayden lowered her head and genuinely smiled. "Thank you."

"I'm just telling the truth." Maddox walked to the coffee machine and started making coffee. While adding coffee powder, he said, "I have a business trip to River North the day after tomorrow for signing. Can you make it?"

In Hayden's mind, William's painful appearance in The Hart family's restroom flashed by, and her heart couldn't help but ache.

"Sure, I'll be there." Hayden forced herself to ignore the dull pain in her heart and nodded with a smile.

"Give me your cup. Let me test the coffee I made." Maddox reached out his hand toward Hayden.

Hayden didn't hesitate and handed him the cup.
