Chapter 375
After all, having Teresa as a friend was a continuous source of benefits; at the drop of a hat, Diana could leverage her 'best friend' status, ensuring others would regard her more highly, never disrespecting her again.
After a moment's thought, Gabriel instructed, "Pull up the surveillance video from the elevator after Diana left. I want to see it."
"Yes, Gabriel." Luke nodded and immediately directed someone to retrieve the elevator footage.
Gabriel pocketed Teresa's phone, quietly approached the door of the hospital room, and peeked inside. To his surprise, Teresa was already asleep, resting against the headboard.
Instinctively, his lips curved into a tender and doting smile, and he tiptoed into the room. Gently, he adjusted the bed from its 45-degree angle to a flat position, allowing Teresa a more comfortable rest.
After the bed was flattened, he looked at her serene face and couldn't help but lean down for a gentle kiss on her forehead.
"My dear."
Just as Gabriel's lips touched Teresa's forehead, her soft murmur rang by his ear.
In an instant, Gabriel felt a surge of joy as he looked at Teresa.
She hadn't awakened, still sleeping peacefully and sweetly.
It appeared she was dreaming of him in her slumber.
Ah...
Brimming with joy, Gabriel couldn't help but smile.
His silly Sweetheart, truly his silly Sweetheart! Just moments ago, she had been so upset with him, and now she was dreaming of him, calling out to him so endearingly.
Such a foolish, wonderful darling. How could he not cherish her?
Sitting by the bedside, Gabriel gently took her hand and leaned down to kiss the back of it fervently.
Sweetheart, in this lifetime, I will protect you and our child with everything I have.
...
"Headed to the hospital?"
Diana returned to her office, where work resumed as usual. Around three in the late afternoon, she joined Liam for an outing.
Once they were in the car and it had pulled away, Liam, who had been resting with his eyes closed against the headrest, suddenly opened his eyes and glanced at her, speaking indifferently.
Diana replied with a small smile. "Teresa looked well, and she seemed to be quickly reconnecting with Gabriel. If it weren't for her complete amnesia about our college days in Jena, I'd really think she hadn't lost her memory at all."
Liam cracked a mysterious smile, then shut his eyes again.
Buzz—Buzz—Buzz—
Suddenly, Diana's phone vibrated in her pocket.
Not wanting to disturb Liam's rest, she quickly took out her phone.
But seeing that it was a call from Emily, she didn't hesitate to hang up.
The phone vibrated again just seconds after she hung up.
Seeing it was still Emily, Diana quickly hung up once more.
"It's okay, you can take it," Liam said with closed eyes after hearing Diana hang up twice.
His words caught Diana off guard. She quickly turned to look at Liam beside her, thankfully with his eyes still closed.
She composed herself and, with a smile, said, "Telemarketer."
Buzz—Buzz—Buzz—
But just as her words fell, her phone vibrated in her hand again.
As her phone vibrated, Liam opened his eyes and turned to look. The name "Emily" flashing on the screen caught his attention.
Diana, intending to cut off the call and block Emily's number, was stopped by a quiet voice.
"Answer it."
"Huh?" Startled, Diana turned abruptly to face Liam.
In an instant, their gazes met in midair, and Liam caught a flash of embarrassment, or perhaps panic, in Diana's eyes before it vanished.
"I really don't have anything to discuss with Emily, and Lord knows if she's calling just to chew me out again. Better to avoid the rebuke," Diana quipped with a fleeting look of disarray. Then, she decisively declined the call, unlocked her phone, and blocked Emily's number.
Liam watched her, a cryptic half-smile playing on his lips. Then he closed his eyes once more.
Silence fell in the car, a profound stillness that seemed to amplify even the sound of their breathing.
After about ten minutes, Diana's phone vibrated again, this time with an unfamiliar number. She assumed it was work-related, so she answered the call.
"Diana, are you out of your mind? Ignoring my calls and blocking me? What's your game?" Emily's livid and thunderous voice blasted from the phone as soon as the connection was made.
The outburst was so loud, and the car so eerily quiet that Liam couldn't help but hear every single word.
"Emily, just get to the point, or I'm hanging up."
Diana's brow furrowed at the sound of Emily's rage. She quickly glanced at Liam, and seeing that he seemed unfazed, she exhaled deeply and responded calmly.
In front of Liam, she had no intention of getting into an altercation with Emily.
"Diana, do you have any conscience at all? My brother adores you. He was even ready to drop millions on a house in your name. Mom and Dad are no longer opposed to you two being together, and yet you're kicking him to the curb. Have you really latched on to Liam's coattails and decided my brother's not good enough for you, huh?"
Emily's fiery temperament and booming voice once again penetrated the silence, reaching Liam's ears unintentionally.
Liam frowned slightly.
"Emily, this is between Douglas and me. You can concern yourself with your brother's business but not mine. Please stop harassing me in the future." Despite Emily's harsh words, Diana strived to remain composed. She dropped the phone call without giving Emily a chance to respond and swiftly switched her device to airplane mode.
After completing these actions, she stole another glance at Liam. Seeing him still with eyes closed, showing no sign of disturbance, she breathed a small sigh of relief.
Regardless of anything, her breakup with Douglas was inevitable.
As for her and Liam...
She gazed deeply at the man beside her, then turned her head and looked out the car window.
...
