Chapter315There's Always a Higher Mountain
With a cry of pain, Yvonne was sent sprawling to the ground.
“Tyler, you... you bastard,” Yvonne gasped, clutching at her chest where she’d been kicked, her speech ragged with pain.
"Tie her up again and take the recorded evidence to the Garcia family with her," Tyler commanded without wasting any more words on Yvonne.
"Yes, boss," a few bodyguards nodded and moved to restrain Yvonne once more.
“Don't you dare!” Yvonne roared as if she still held the position of the matriarch of the Evans family.
Unintimidated, the bodyguards promptly took out a rope and started tying her up again.
"Tyler, let them stop," Yvonne suddenly shifted gears, realizing her defiance was futile, and began to plead, “Tyler, if you keep me safe this time, I will give you and your son all of my shares in the Evans Group."
Facing abuse from Gabriel, the shares were no longer significant to her. After all, besides her stake in the Evans Group, she had plenty of other assets under her name.
"Wait a minute." Tyler was indeed interested and ordered the bodyguards to stop.
The bodyguards released Yvonne immediately.
"Is that the truth, Yvonne?" Tyler eyed her with a cunning glint in his gaze.
"Dad..."
“Liam, stay out of this. I’ve got it handled.”
Seeing that Tyler seemed to be considering a trade with Yvonne, Liam quickly spoke up, trying to intervene.
Tyler cut him off. He had his plans.
Desperate to survive, Yvonne had no choice but to agree swiftly, "It's true. As long as you ensure my safety this time, all my shares in the Evans Group will be transferred to you and your son."
"Good, call the lawyer," Tyler said, nodding for the butler to take action.
"No! You have to guarantee my safety before I'll sign any share transfer," Yvonne maintained some caution.
"The deal is you sign the agreement to transfer the shares first, then I can keep you safe. Otherwise, how can I be sure you won't back out later, wasting my effort?" Tyler countered.
"And what if I sign and you renege on keeping me safe?" Yvonne challenged.
"Stop talking nonsense and send her off to the Garcia family," Liam snapped, visibly annoyed with Yvonne and unwilling to hear more from her.
"Stop!" Yvonne relented out of fear for her life. She had no choice but to take the gamble and nodded, "I'll sign, I'll sign."
"All right," Tyler nodded, "call the lawyer."
The butler nodded in agreement and immediately phoned the family attorney.
In less than half an hour, the lawyer arrived, having been briefed over the phone about Tyler’s intentions regarding the Evans Estate. En route, the lawyer had already drafted the share transfer agreement.
Upon reaching the Evans residence, the attorney printed out three copies of the prepared share transfer agreement for Yvonne to sign.
"No, there has to be an additional clause." However, after reviewing the agreement, Yvonne refused to sign and made a demand, "Tyler and his son Liam must guarantee my safety. No one—including the people from Jackson’s side—is allowed to harm or hassle me. Otherwise, I won't sign."
"Fine, add it in," Tyler agreed without hesitation this time.
"Okay," the lawyer nodded, incorporating Yvonne's request into the agreement and printing out three new copies for her to sign.
Yvonne scrutinized the documents, assured that they were in order, yet she still hesitated over whether to sign.
"Having second thoughts, are you?" Tyler seized the very point that frightened Yvonne the most and threatened bluntly, "If you don't sign, I'll send you straight to the Garcias."
"No! I'll sign," Yvonne capitulated immediately, aware that falling into the hands of the Garcia clan meant certain and unspeakable suffering, a fate worse than death.
"Then sign it," Tyler nodded, his eyes narrowing.
With resentment, Yvonne glared at Tyler, gripped the pen, and signed her name on the agreement, also pressing her thumbprint onto the paper.
"Liam, I've signed the transfer agreement. Can I leave now?" she asked, glaring at Tyler through clenched teeth.
Tyler took the signed agreement from the lawyer, gave it a quick look to ensure everything was in order, and nodded, "Someone takes Yvonne and the evidence to the Garcias and lets them deal with her as they see fit."
"Yes, Boss."
"Tyler, you bastard! What do you mean, the agreement—" Yvonne's protest was cut off as she shrieked, “Let me go! Get off me!"
She didn't expect Tyler to double-cross her. Filled with resentment and anger, she screamed furiously. But before she could say more, the bodyguards stepped in, restraining her and dragging her away.
"Tyler, you son of a bitch! May you and your son never know peace. Even as a ghost, I won't let you off. I will never let either of you off..." Her curses trailed off into the distance, echoing with her despair.
Hearing Yvonne's piercing screams, Liam closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and silently left the room.
"Liam, Dad's got another family out there..."
"It's your problem, not mine. Do whatever you want with it," Liam knew what Tyler was about to say. He didn't wait for him to finish before he cut him off and continued on his way out.
Tyler watched him go, frowned, and nodded to himself but didn't say anything more, letting Liam walk away.
...
At the hospital, it had been over two hours since the surgery, but Teresa showed no signs of waking up.
The doctor had come by and said that everything was normal. Teresa hadn't regained consciousness because of significant blood loss and the weakness that followed, compounded by the anesthesia. She would need more time to wake up.
By 9 o'clock that night, Teresa's parents, Mason and Raymond, visited her at the hospital. Seeing Teresa still unconscious made their hearts twist with worry.
Right then, a bodyguard came in with news that the Evans family had uncovered the truth that Yvonne had orchestrated all of this. They had delivered both the evidence and Yvonne herself to the Garcias for them to deal with.
Gabriel shot up from his chair, ready to storm out.
"Gabriel, what are you going to do?" Mason called after him, worried.
