Chapter 255 No More Meetings

After purchasing the watch, Diana headed straight back to the office.

On her way, she pondered over Yvonne’s motives in seeking her out. Was it to control her son Liam or to use her for revenge against Teresa?

Yvonne had recently spent a harrowing fortnight in detention after she tried to frame Teresa, trashing her own reputation and nearly getting ousted from the Evans family in the end.

Taking sides with Yvonne would inevitably land Diana in hot water either with Liam or with Teresa.

And with Teresa and Gabriel joined at the hip, just look at Kay — her attempt to entice Gabriel led to a catastrophic fall from grace, culminating in a tragic end.

Just thinking about it made Diana’s skin crawl.

Liam was no fool besides, his affection for Diana was anything but genuine. Their intimacy was merely a consequence of the situation with Teresa.

How could Liam possibly marry her, allowing her to bear the Evans family name?

Yvonne’s true intent was clear: use Diana as a pawn in her vendetta against Teresa and Liam. As for the fulfillment of her so-called promises, that was not hers to guarantee.

Now, Teresa was her bestie, her ride-or-die. Whatever came up, Teresa was there with her full support, looking out for her best interests.

If she did anything to hurt Teresa and it came to light, their sisterly bond would be irrevocably damaged.

Falling for Liam had been her foolish mistake, causing her pain once already. She couldn’t afford to be that foolish again.

She retrieved the SIM card Yvonne had given her from her pocket. Without a second thought, Diana snapped it in two, destroying it, and then tossed it out of the car window.

Yvonne was nothing but a lost cause now—she couldn’t hold a candle to Liam, who had the backing of both the Garcia and the Bennett families.

With the SIM card gone, Diana glanced at the exquisitely wrapped watch worth over five million dollars beside her, feeling no more pain or bitterness.

She was curious to see just how far Liam would go with Tessa, with his generous gestures and apparent affection.

Back in the office, Diana delivered the watch to Liam without a word.

However, once she returned to her desk, she pulled out her phone and opened a messaging app. She typed a message, “By the way, Liam, I ran into your mother while I was out buying the watch. She said it was a gift for Tessa and asked me to tell no one about our encounter.”

She sent the message without hesitation.

In the adjacent CEO’s office, Liam’s fingers flew over his keyboard, replying to emails. Hearing the buzz of his phone, he glanced over.

His brow furrowed instantly upon seeing the message from Diana.

How did Yvonne know he sent Diana to buy that watch? And that it was meant for Tessa?

Could it mean that Tessa hadn’t just casually stumbled upon the watch in a magazine at the hotel last night?

With a tighter scowl, Liam snatched up his phone and unlocked it to message Diana, “What else did she tell you?”

Diana felt a thrill at Liam’s quick response, but after a moment of thought, she replied, “Liam, could I possibly withhold anything else from you?”

She had already taken a hard fall once she wouldn’t make the same mistake in the same way again.

In his office, Liam read Diana’s response and looked once more at the watch lying on his desk.
Afterward, without another word or question, he opened the bottom drawer and tossed the watch inside.

......

The results of the bone marrow biopsy wouldn’t be ready for at least four hours.

During her afternoon lecture, Teresa was noticeably distracted, her mind elsewhere. When teaching grammar, she misspoke twice and, upon realizing her mistakes, quickly corrected them.

As soon as the first-afternoon session ended, Teresa told her students, “I have an urgent matter to attend to, so I need to leave early today. If you have any questions, feel free to email me,” and then she hurried out, her steps quick and anxious.

Once she got into her car outside the academic building, she immediately called her doctor.

The report was in. The doctor confirmed that it was indeed malignant lymphoma, and it had progressed to an intermediate stage.

Teresa felt her eyes well up with tears the moment she heard the news, her vision blurring uncontrollably as panic set in. Trembling with fear, she asked, “What... what do we do next? What are the chances of recovery at this stage of malignant lymphoma?”

“Don’t panic, Mrs. Garcia. Mr. Garcia’s condition isn’t all that bad. With chemotherapy and a subsequent bone marrow transplant, the chances of recovery are high. With the Garcia family’s resources, you can hire the best medical team and get access to the finest treatments available. Plus, considering Mr. Garcia’s health, overcoming this shouldn’t be a problem, so don’t be afraid,” the doctor reassured her.

He wasn’t just offering comfort. What he said was the truth.

For the average person with intermediate-stage malignant lymphoma, the recovery rate could exceed 60%, and even more so for a family like the Garcias, who could spare no expense in treatment.

“Okay!” Teresa nodded, trying to rein in her emotions. “I understand. I’ll discuss this with my family right away. Thanks, doctor.”

After hanging up, Teresa wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes, took a deep breath, and tried to calm herself. She found Mason’s number to call but then reconsidered and dialed Raymond’s instead.

Even though Mason was still the head of the Garcia family, he was of advanced age and adored his grandson Gabriel. Having undergone major surgery recently, how would he cope with Gabriel’s diagnosis?

Raymond had been away at home these past few days, attending an important summit in the capital.
