Chapter 596 Greeting the Children

Looking into the incubator at the two wrinkled little ones, William felt even more like crying.

'Hi, Chloe, Logan. I'm your dad! I'm so happy to be your dad.' William silently greeted the two children in his heart, but restrained his emotions on his face.

"Over five years ago, Hayden went to great lengths to save the children, but in the end, she almost lost her life. Today, she finally got her wish and gave birth to your children. I'm really happy for her." Isabella turned to glance at William, then looked at Chloe and Logan, her old voice unusually calm.

William withdrew his gaze from the children, lowered his head, and smiled. "Thank you, I should go now." With that, William turned and left.

"William, did Jocelyn call you? Did she say anything to you?" Just as William took two steps away, Isabella suddenly turned and called out to him.

Suddenly, William's steps halted, his handsome brows furrowing tightly.

"Isabella, if you think Jocelyn said something to me, why don't you ask her yourself." In an instant, William relaxed his furrowed brows, turned back to Isabella, and slightly hooked his lips.

Isabella looked at him, sighed lightly, nodded, and said nothing more.

William politely smiled and left.

Hayden's surgery was done under general anesthesia. When the anesthesia wore off, she woke up half an hour after being pushed back to the ward.

Finn and Isabella were both by her side. Seeing them when she opened her eyes, Hayden felt warm in her heart, but she still felt a bit lost. It was a loss that could never be compensated for by affection.

"You're awake!" Isabella held Hayden's hand, her smile upon seeing her awake was full of kindness.

"Isabella, Dad," Hayden weakly called out.

"How are you feeling? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?" Finn, by the bedside, asked with extra kindness.

Hayden shook her head. "Dad, Isabella, where are Chloe and Logan? How are they?"

"Chloe and Logan are well, but they were premature, so they are temporarily staying in the neonatal intensive care unit, being cared for by the best pediatric doctors and nurses. You don't need to worry," Finn said kindly.

Hayden nodded slightly. "I just want to see them."

"Okay." Finn agreed, "I'll have the doctor come in to check on you first. If everything is fine, we'll go see Chloe and Logan together."

"Okay," Hayden agreed. Soon the doctor came in to examine her.

Due to excessive bleeding, she was a bit weaker than the average mother, but there were no major issues, so she could go see the children in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Because of the cesarean section, Hayden couldn't be moved around due to abdominal incision, so she had to temporarily use a wheelchair.

The VIP ward of the neonatal intensive care unit was just below Hayden's ward. When she was pushed in to see Chloe and Logan in their room, she couldn't control her tears when she saw them in the incubator.

It was joy, excitement, gratitude, and deep regret for the child she had ended the life of over five years ago.

"Chloe and Logan are fine; it's a good thing that you're all safe. Why are you crying?" Isabella, seeing Hayden burst into tears, quickly took out her handkerchief to wipe her tears, saying as she wiped, "You've just given birth; you shouldn't cry. It's not good for your eyes."

Hayden nodded, smiling brightly. "Isabella, I'm happy."

Isabella looked at her, kindly scolding, "Even if you're happy, you shouldn't cry; you should smile when you're happy."

Hayden nodded with a smile, then carefully reached out her hands to gently hold Chloe and Logan's hands, which were not much bigger than her finger, saying with a smile, "Chloe, Logan, I'm your mom. From now on, I will be with you, protect you, watch you grow up safely, healthily, and happily."

Hayden stayed in Chloe and Logan's room for half an hour until the doctor said it was time for her to go back for injections and medication, so she returned to her ward.

Back in her ward, thinking about Jocelyn, she calmly said to Finn, "Dad, you've been here in River North for so many days now. Now that Chloe and Logan are safe, why don't you go back? There are many important matters at the company that can't be handled without you."

"Yes, Finn. I'm here; you can rest assured and go back," Isabella, unaware of Hayden's thoughts, sincerely advised.

After all, such a large corporation required decisions from either Finn or Hayden for many matters.

Finn hesitated for a moment, nodding. "Alright. I'll go back to Imperial Capital first. When you can discharge, I'll come personally to take you back."

"Okay." Hayden nodded with a smile. "Thank you, Dad."

After Finn left, Isabella saw Hayden's sudden downturn in mood and the clear sadness in her eyes. She sat by the bedside, took her hand, and lovingly said, "William came by, but he just looked at the children and left."

Hayden looked at Isabella, a glint of light passing through her eyes, but it quickly dimmed.

Hayden thought to herself, 'I'm sorry we are ultimately not blessed by God, destined not to be together for a lifetime, which is why we have come to this point today. As for our children, I will take responsibility.'
The words William had said to her the last time they met echoed clearly in her mind. He only came to see the children.

"Melissa, William must not see the children without my permission from now on," Hayden ordered.

Melissa stood aside, furrowing her brows, thinking for a moment before asking, "What about the other members of the Bennett family?"

"William's parents and Teresa can, but no one else," Hayden stated clearly.

"Okay, Hayden, I understand." Melissa nodded, then immediately turned and left to handle it.

"What belongs to you cannot be taken away by others, and what doesn't belong to you, you don't need to force. Otherwise, even if you get it, you won't be happy," Looking at the stubborn Hayden, Isabella advised.

"Isabella, why do you think William is willing to marry Michelle but not forgive me and come back to me?" Hayden suddenly became teary-eyed as she looked at Isabella.

"You don't know what kind of woman Michelle is, but since William is willing to marry her, there must be a reason. You don't understand, so why blame him blindly? Just like when you chose to break up with him back then, wasn't it also due to your helplessness?" Isabella looked at her, patting her hand gently and kindly.

Looking at Isabella, Hayden's emotions were complex. She nodded and said, "Then I'll wait! If William really marries Michelle, I will never have any entanglement with him again for the rest of my life."
