Chapter 431 William and Hayden (32)
Michelle was having dinner in the dormitory when she heard the door open. Surprised to see Hayden, she looked up.
"Hayden, you're back. Would you like to join me for dinner?" Michelle's unexpectedly friendly demeanor caught Hayden off guard.
Hayden glanced at her and entered the dorm, closing the door behind her. As she walked to her room, she responded, "No thanks."
Seeing Hayden head straight to her room, Michelle grabbed her crutch and followed.
Upon reaching Hayden's door, Michelle was taken aback to see her packing up her textbooks.
"Hayden, aren't you coming back to live here? Where are you moving to?"
Hayden looked up at Michelle, whose sudden warmth seemed out of character, and let out a snort of laughter. "I'll be requesting a dorm change, but your concern isn't where I'm moving to."
"Sorry, Hayden, I was too carried away and didn't control my emotions. Please don't be mad, and don't move out, okay?" Suddenly, Michelle begged Hayden with an unusually humble plea.
If Hayden moved out, not only would William suspect she had done something to Hayden, but her chances of seeing William would also decrease.
Glancing at her one more time, Hayden couldn't help but let out a snort of disdain.
Was it because she had successfully confessed to William and got what she wanted she became kinder and more beautiful?
Hayden stuffed her books into her backpack, efficiently zipped it up, swung it over her shoulder, and headed for the door. She looked at Michelle and said, "Our relationship hasn't reached the point where I have to listen to you. Enjoy your time with your new roommate."
With those words, she walked past Michelle and strode out the door.
Michelle stood there, clenching her fists in anger and hatred, as she heard Hayden pulling the door open and slamming it shut again. Anyone had so disregarded her as Hayden had just done.
"Just you wait, Hayden," she thought bitterly.
...
Hayden had skipped dinner, and after leaving the dorm, she went to a nearby café and ordered a plate of spaghetti and a slice of tiramisu.
Although she was hungry, when the spaghetti arrived, she didn't eat it but stared dreamily at the tiramisu.
After a while, she scooped up a small piece of the tiramisu with her finger and put it in her mouth.
When Jasper got to the café after Michelle called him, he saw the same scene unfold: William carrying Michelle.
He snapped a few photos and sent them to William.
At the other end, William was in his apartment, preparing dinner for one while teleconferencing, with the meeting being projected onto his dining room wall.
The effortless way William balanced cooking and meeting, as a man, seemed completely natural.
The executives on the other end of the call also seemed unfazed, taking it in stride.
Halfway through the meeting, William's phone on the kitchen counter buzzed a few times.
He glanced at it and saw that it was a message from Jasper, but he paid it no mind and continued with his cooking and the meeting.
It wasn't until an hour and a half later after he had finished his dinner and the meeting, that he finally rechecked his phone while cleaning up.
It was a document sent by Jeffrey.
He quickly glanced at the document and exited, then noticed Jasper's WeChat message and opened it.
"Leaving poor Hayden to eat dinner all alone, that's just not right of you," came the message.
There were four messages in total, three of which were pictures.
William opened the images to see Hayden sitting in the coffee shop next to the academy's women's dorm. She was in her usual spot, staring at a slice of tiramisu on the table, lost in thought.
The second picture showed Hayden scooping up a bite of the tiramisu and bringing it to her mouth.
In the third picture, she was bowing her head with her eyes closed.
When William enlarged the third image, he could clearly see a glint of brightness at the corner of her eye.
It was a tear.
Suddenly, William's brow furrowed with worry.
His first impulse was to rush out the door, but then he realized the pictures were sent an hour and a half ago.
Without wasting another moment, suspecting Hayden might still be at the coffee shop, he dashed outside.
...
In no more than ten minutes, William drove up to the coffee shop and parked the car.
However, when he pushed the door open and stepped out, he saw that the coffee shop was empty except for a few staff members cleaning up.
Could it be that she had already gone back to the dorm?
With that thought, William immediately ran toward the dormitory.
Michelle had just finished showering in the dorm and was about to go to bed.
The sudden ringing of the doorbell puzzled her; who could it be this late?
Still confused, she quickly went to answer the door.
As the door swung open, Michelle saw William standing there. "William, what are you doing here?" she gasped in surprise.
William glanced briefly at her and then stepped past her, heading straight for Hayden's room.
Watching William completely ignoring her and heading directly to Hayden's room, Michelle felt as though her heart had plummeted from heaven to hell, a kind of discomfort she had never experienced before.
