Chapter 281 Exposed

On Monday, Teresa went to her usual classes at the foreign languages institute.

Gabriel had a marathon meeting with the executives from Capital Construction today, planning to have lunch with them. This rare break in her schedule gave her the chance to invite Diana for lunch.

Diana had been running errands close to the Foreign Language Institute, so after wrapping things up, she headed straight there to meet up with Teresa. Together, they walked to a nearby restaurant owned by the Bennett Group.

What Teresa didn't expect was that Unity suddenly appeared as she and Diana stepped out of the office building and were about to get into the car. As the bodyguards moved to intercept her, Unity dropped to her knees in front of Teresa.

Diana, standing by Teresa's side, was just as stunned by the spectacle.

"Teresa, I acknowledge my mistakes. I was wrong to hide the truth, tamper with the surveillance at the hotel, and desire the position in The Garcia family that rightfully belonged to you," Unity pleaded, unabashed about losing face. Ignoring the curious glances from the surrounding crowd, her tearful eyes begged Teresa for mercy.

"I'm begging you, all my past mistakes aside, please save my son," Unity implored, reaching for the hem of Teresa's skirt.

Teresa stepped back instinctively as Unity's hand approached, "Unity, I'm not a doctor. How can I save your son? What are you doing kneeling here?"

After speaking, Teresa turned to Diana, "Let's go, Diana."

"Oh, okay," Diana said, regaining her composure. She cast one last glance at Unity and followed Teresa away.

"Teresa, I need money! Money can save my son!" Unity blurted out her true intention, lunging forward to grasp Teresa's hand.

The Lewis family had fallen apart, cutting off Unity's financial lifeline. She sold everything she could, and no one was willing to finance her anymore.

Hearing this, Teresa stopped in her tracks, turned back to Unity, and asked directly, "How much do you need?"

Helping little Russell recover with a mere sum of money was something Teresa could certainly do.

"Five million dollars." Unity extended a hand without hesitation, but upon seeing Teresa's suddenly furrowed brows, she burst into a tearful plea, "Russell's injury is just too severe. He’s in the ICU, and the medical bills are extremely high. I wouldn't have come to ask for your help if I had any other choice. Teresa, you have to help me. I can't bear the thought of losing my son..."

"All right, five million?" Teresa replied without a hint of doubt, "I'll provide it to save your boy."

With that, Teresa took out her cell phone and called the bank. Eagerly, Unity produced her own bank card and read out the account number to her.

"Teresa, isn't five million a bit much?" Diana, standing nearby, quietly reminded her.

Unity had some nerve, Diana thought Unity had some nerve, asking for such an astronomical sum outright.

Teresa glanced at Diana, shook her head, and began instructing the bank—not to transfer the money directly to Unity but to send it to a hospital account set up for little Russell's treatment. From now on, all of his medical bills would be deducted from that five million.

Unity, holding her bank card, was gleefully anticipating Teresa transferring the five million directly to her, imagining she could take the money and flee, leaving Russell's fate behind.

But to her shock, Teresa was transferring the funds to the hospital's account.

"Teresa, what are you doing?" Suddenly, Unity erupted, confronting Teresa with fiery indignation.

Teresa ended the call and looked at the mask of rage that had replaced Unity's desperate facade. She barely suppressed a smile and took a step back, pulling Diana with her.

A bodyguard immediately stepped forward, positioning himself protectively in front of Teresa to block any potential attack from Unity.

"Unity, even if you think I'm easy to fool, did you really believe Gabriel would be?" Teresa said with a casual smile.

"Gabriel has had you investigated thoroughly these past few days. You were only pretending to be a distressed mother, taking your son back from foster care two months ago. After retrieving him, you never showed any real affection, and just the other day at the amusement park, it was no accident that a car hit him—it was you who deliberately pushed him into traffic, causing his critical injuries."

Unity stared at Teresa, eyes widening in disbelief. Her cunning plan to play a grieving mother and swindle money had been exposed all too swiftly.

“Originally, Gabriel had planned to turn you into the police. But I thought, after all, he's your own flesh and blood. You'd feel the guilt, the remorse, and you'd take good care of him and do some soul-searching," Teresa said, her cold, mocking laughter directed at Unity. "But now, it seems I was mistaken. You are not fit to be a mother."

"Teresa, drop the saint act. If it weren't for you, would I ever be in this mess?" Unity roared, her voice thunderous, as she lunged toward Teresa.

But in an instant, the bodyguard held her down, rendering her immobile.

"Teresa, you strut around, proud and cocky, just because you've taken over the position in the Garcia family. I want to see how long you last, whether Gabriel will..." Unity taunted.

"Shut up!"

"Mmph!"

Unity tried to keep yelling, but the bodyguard covered her mouth with his hand and turned to Teresa, asking, "What should we do with her now?"
