Chapter 267 Experiencing the Pain of Pregnancy and Childbirth

Gabriel’s hand gently cradled the back of Teresa’s head, and as their kiss intensified, Teresa suddenly broke away, wincing and gasping in pain.

“What’s wrong?” Gabriel immediately cradled her face to inspect her lips.

He had tasted blood in her mouth.

There was a cut on her lips.

“It’s nothing!” Teresa turned her head away quickly. “I just bit myself by accident while eating.”

“We haven’t even started lunch.” They had breakfast together, and nothing had happened then.

Determined, Gabriel held her face steady, insisting on examining the injury on her lips.
Teresa couldn’t resist his insistence and let him inspect her lower lip.

Gabriel’s slender brows furrowed instantly.

“It happened at the office. I tried some homemade treats a colleague brought in and accidentally bit myself,” Teresa explained with unnerving calm as she looked at him.

“Those treats must be delicious. Bring some for me next time,” Gabriel said without a doubt, affectionately pinching her nose. “We’ll get Skylar to bring you some anti-inflammatory medicine.”

Teresa shook her head. “You should take your medicine first.”

As she said this, she went to get his medication but then set it back down. “You should eat something first. It’s not good for your stomach to take medicine on an empty stomach.”

Gabriel pulled her into his arms, “Sweetheart, do you have any idea how amazing you looked just now, laying down the law?”

Teresa glared at him fiercely, “If you don’t take your medicine properly in the future, I might just have to fire you as well.”

“What kind of firing?” Gabriel teased with a pleased smile.

Teresa squeezed his waist firmly, “If you skip your meds, I won’t speak to you for a week.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

...

That afternoon, Teresa returned to the language institute and felt a wave of relief when she didn’t see Brian. In her mind, Brian had become a demon, and she had never been so afraid to encounter someone or resisted the idea of seeing them so much.

Yet, she could only endure and take no action.

Unexpectedly, while she didn’t encounter Brian at school, as soon as she and Gabriel returned to their mansion, Brian was there in the living room, accompanied by his mother, Christine.

When Brian looked their way, their eyes met, and Teresa felt an involuntary shiver, a fleeting glimpse of terror.

Gabriel, standing beside her with Michael in hand and his arm around Teresa, did not notice the flicker of fear in her eyes.

“Gabriel, Teresa,” Brian said nonchalantly as he got up to greet them, his demeanor no different from the cousin in Gabriel’s memory.

“You’re back,” Christine said with a beaming smile as she, too, stood up to welcome them.
“Christine,” Teresa called out with a calm, polite smile.

“Hey there!” Christine responded with unrestrained joy, turning to Katherine, and said, “Katherine, I’m seriously jealous. You hit the jackpot with a daughter-in-law like Teresa.”

“It’s time for Brian to think about settling down, too,” Katherine replied with a chuckle. Their conversation was barely a pause before Gabriel, with his son in hand, swept Teresa into his arms and made a move to head upstairs.

“Gabriel, Teresa, come stay with our guests,” Katherine called out to them, eager to have them stay a bit longer.

After all, Gabriel was going to need a bone marrow transplant from Brian soon, and they absolutely could not afford to alienate the Hughes family at a time like this.

“It’s fine if you stay. Christine won’t mind,” Gabriel called back, not bothering to turn around as he continued up the steps with Teresa.

“It’s fine. Gabriel’s had a tough day. Let him rest,” Christine said understandingly, her smile unwavering.

Over the years, if it hadn’t been for the Garcia's support, the Hughes family would have been in dire straits.

Therefore, when Christine found out Gabriel had lymphoma and needed a bone marrow transplant from Brian, she could hardly contain her happiness.

Now, the Garcias would surely respond to any request from the Hughes family.

Watching Gabriel wrap his arm around someone and leave without a glance in her direction, Brian’s lips quirked into a knowing smile, yet his face showed no hint of taking offense.

“Hey, why so cold, darling? That’s your cousin and her mother. Why don’t you spend some time with our guests?” asked Teresa.

The three of them headed upstairs and into the cozy second-floor living room, where Gabriel set Michael down and started to play with building blocks alongside it. Teresa took a cup of hot beverage, freshly brewed by the housekeeper to boost immunity, and handed it to Gabriel.

After taking a sip and setting the cup aside, Gabriel gently lifted Teresa’s chin. He kissed her and said gently, “No need. They’re used to it.”

Gabriel’s relationship with his cousin Brian had been fine when they were young. Still, at the age of twelve, during a visit to his maternal grandparent’s house, Brian had conspired with some of the local rascals and locked him in the attic with a ferocious hound.

At the age of five or six, he had a harrowing encounter with the same hound that had left him with a lingering fear of the beast.

As they locked eyes, an unspoken standoff ensued, and he nearly broke down in tears.

Fortunately, he eventually mustered the courage to face his fear head-on and managed to soothe the once-intimidating animal. From that day forward, his fear of dogs was conquered.

After that incident, however, he had no desire to hang out with Brian and those troublemakers ever again.

“Isn’t Brian a marrow match for you? If you keep giving him the cold shoulder, what will happen when...” Teresa trailed off as she looked at Gabriel, choosing not to finish her sentence.

“How did you know?” he asked.
