Chapter 56 Still Such a Childish Jerk

The surgery was a success, and Teresa, alongside Liam, returned to the OR waiting area, where the anxious family held a silent vigil. As the hours stretched on, the tension was palpable, but when the doors finally opened, relief flooded in with Dr. Shen's announcement: the surgery was a success.

With her father's condition stable, Teresa declined Liam's offer to leave, choosing to stay at the hospital. Liam, understanding, left for the night, and William followed the doctor for a final word.

Outside the OR, Sophia was mused about Liam's intentions, and Teresa, while noncommittal, knew her son's well-being was her priority. The family's fortunes had changed; they no longer needed strategic marriages for security.

Early the next morning, Gabriel, restless and concerned, called to check on Patrick's surgery. Learning of Teresa's return, he instructed his assistant to notify him when she left the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Bennetts were reassured of Patrick's stable condition. Teresa and William, tired and in need of rest, so they decided to head home.

On their way back, William broached the subject of Gabriel's secretive support over the past two years. Teresa was stunned to learn of Gabriel's involvement, especially in arranging Dr. Shen's timely surgery. Despite her protests, William hinted at Gabriel's deep-seated feelings for her.

As they neared the Garcia estate, they spotted Gabriel and his flashy orange Pagani. Teresa, apprehensive, tried to avoid an encounter, but William pulled over.

Gabriel, had a car trouble, asked for a ride. Teresa, not wanting to share a ride with Gabriel, opted to take a cab instead. But as she tried to leave, Gabriel grabbed her wrist, offering a ride himself. Their exchange was charged; Gabriel's persistent interest clashed with Teresa's scorn.

Teresa's frustration boiled over when Gabriel's words struck too close to home. She slapped him, a mix of anger and tears in her eyes. Gabriel, feeling an unexpected pang of guilt, released her. Teresa warned him to stay away before storming off.

Gabriel, left in turmoil, called his assistant to investigate a night from their past, seeking clarity on a memory that continued to haunt him.
