Chapter312Vengeance Is a Dish Best Served Cold

"Lauren's suicide, it's all over the front pages of mainstream online media. Report it to Liam ASAP. How should we handle this?" Thomas's voice came through urgently.

Diana, taken aback, immediately checked the news app on her phone. The top story was about Lauren's fall from the Evans Group headquarters, with graphic proof included. However, the reports claimed it wasn't an accident. They alleged Liam had pushed her because Lauren was his mistress. Liam, aiming to protect his marriage to Faith and secure an alliance with the Coppola family, silenced Lauren permanently to avoid a scandal.

Diana's eyes went wide in shock.

"What's wrong?" Liam asked, looking at Diana's reaction with a furrowed brow and unease spreading over his face.

Diana looked up at Liam and handed him the phone.

Liam's handsome face tensed immediately, his brows knitted so tightly it looked as if they could trap a fly.

It was clear that the mastermind behind this intended to ruin him completely.

"Liam, what's the trouble now?" Patrick, seeing Liam's darkening expression, asked him gravely.

Liam glanced at the group and passed the phone to Mason and Patrick.

As everyone checked the phone, their expressions grew even graver.

"Diana asked Liam how they should deal with these reports, recollecting herself after the initial shock.

"When the public is in the dark, the more you conceal, the guiltier you appear," Mason said seriously, looking at Liam. "The only way out is to find the real puppet master and clear everything up with the public as soon as possible."
Watching Mason closely, Liam nodded in agreement. "You're making sense, Mason. I'll get our guys to find out who's pulling the strings behind the scenes."

With a clatter, the ER doors were swung open from the inside. Everyone turned sharply at the sound.

"Doc, how's my wife?" Gabriel was the quickest to react, dashing over and grabbing hold of the doctor's arm.

"She’s no longer in danger. However, her injuries are severe, with some internal damage. The surgery's going to take a while, so I'm asking everyone to be patient," the doctor stepped out, glancing at the imposing figures of River North's power players gathered outside the door, a shiver of respect coloring his voice.

"Can I see her?" Gabriel asked, his expression taut with concern, gripping the doctor's arm tightly despite hearing Theresa was out of danger.

"Well..."

"Gabriel, stay calm, Theresa's going to be fine!" Mason interjected before the doctor could express his hesitance, placing a reassuring hand on Gabriel's shoulder. "You'd only disrupt the doctors inside and add to their stress if you went in now. It's best to wait out here."

"Right, Gabriel. It's quite a bloody mess in there. You should wait outside. I'll come out and update everyone immediately if there's any news," the doctor quickly said, offering a supportive smile in tandem with Mason's words.

"Yeah, Gabriel, just wait out here. Don't go in and cause any confusion for the doctors," added Raymond.

Hearing his friends and family offer advice, Gabriel's grip slowly relaxed, and he let go of the doctor's arm, resigning himself to wait outside for Teresa.

Once released, the doctor offered a small smile and slipped back into the ER, closing the door behind him.

"Liam, now that Teresa’s stable, you better take care of business," Mason said once the ER door shut.

Liam scanned the group, paused to collect his thoughts, nodded gravely, and then strode away briskly.

"I'll be heading off then," Diana said, addressing the elders quickly.

"Sure, dear. I'll call you as soon as we get any news about Teresa," Sophia said warmly to Diana.

"Okay." Diana nodded, grabbed her mobile phone, and followed Liam out.

As soon as he entered the elevator, Liam immediately called Thomas. When the call connected, he commanded without hesitation, "Get someone on it now. Put Yvonne and those lapdogs of hers under house arrest. Cut off any contact they have with the outside world."

He pondered who would want to corner Teresa and see him ruined. It could only be Yvonne.

Yvonne was truly vicious, absolutely ruthless!

He wouldn't let her get away with it. No, he wouldn't.

"Yes, Liam."

...

"Is Teresa dead yet?"

Elsewhere, Yvonne, seemingly unaffected by recent events, had just finished a joyful lunch with some friends at an upscale private club. As soon as she got into her car, she impatiently asked her bodyguard.

"The hospital is still trying to save her. Doesn't look like she's dead," the bodyguard in the passenger seat turned around and informed her.

"That good-for-nothing Lauren can't even handle something properly at death's door," Yvonne said, scowling in disappointment.

"Madam, we've circulated the news of Lauren's fall, but there's been no response from Liam. What's our next move?" the bodyguard inquired respectfully, looking at Yvonne.

"No move from Liam?!" Yvonne hadn't anticipated this, but the next second, she snorted disdainfully, "Of course, he's guilty. I want to see how he plans to remain the CEO of Evans Group after all this..."

She was interrupted by a sudden screech—

Yvonne's words were interrupted by the driver slamming on the brakes, causing the tires to screech loudly. Unbuckled in the back seat, Yvonne was thrown forward against the front seat and then jerked back heavily into her seat.

"What's going on?" Yvonne roared in fury.

"Ma... Madam...," the driver stammered.

Bang, bang, bang!

Before her shout quieted and the driver could explain, several burly men surrounded their car, each wielding a weapon and smashing it against the windows.

Yvonne, her face turning pale with shock, screamed, "Drive, drive now!"

"Ma...Madam... the road... it's blocked," the driver uttered, trembling with fear.

"You idiot, reverse!" Yvonne shrieked.

"The back... is also... blocked..."
Bang! Bang! Bang!... Crash! Thud!

"Ahh! Who are you guys?"
