Chapter 49 Facades and Farewells

An hour had passed when Gabriel's lawyer arrived with the divorce papers, leaving Unity's hands empty. Her tenure as Mrs. Garcia had been a facade, filled with the trappings of wealth but none of its substance. No spending money from Gabriel or Katherine, just the illusion of a carefree existence.

The promise of a reward for her childbirth had evaporated, and now, staring at the stark divorce settlement, Unity knew resistance was futile. She signed away her brief chapter with the Garcias and followed the path laid out for her to the civil affairs bureau. The divorce was processed with a cold efficiency that matched Gabriel's demeanor perfectly.

Holding the finalized papers, Unity sought a shred of sentiment. "Have you ever felt anything for me?" she asked.

"Yes," came Gabriel's curt reply, leaving no room for hope.

"And who has your heart now?" she pressed, suspecting his affections lay elsewhere.

"That's not your concern," he dismissed her before departing with a promise not to pursue the Lewis family's downfall.

Meanwhile, in Jena, Teresa was enjoying a restorative bath prepared by her babysitter, complete with healing herbs. Her family's arrival interrupted her peaceful meal, and her sheepish look did nothing to quell the tension.

Despite just having given birth, Teresa was still radiant and as beautiful as before. Sophia's stern demand to see the baby, who was nicknamed "Croissant" by Teresa that led to a family meeting that would shape their future.

Sophia and Patrick, while loving, proposed a pragmatic solution: raise the child as Teresa's brother's to protect the family's reputation. Despite Teresa's protest, it was clear that it was for her and the baby's sake, sacrifices had to be made.

Liam offered a compromise. If Teresa agreed to the plan, he would put the past behind them and move forward with marriage. The pressure was on, but Liam's support gave Teresa the space she needed to consider their proposal.

Gabriel's arrival in Jena was marked by a call from Mason, his grandfather, who chided him for his persistent pursuit of Teresa. Undeterred, Gabriel was determined to win her back, his confidence unshaken by previous failures.

At the hospital, the moment of departure had arrived. Liam, ever the protector, carried Teresa, while Sophia and Patrick followed with the baby. As they exited, Gabriel's car pulled over, his heart poised for confrontation.

Inside the car, Finley watched the scene unfold, witnessing Gabriel's silent agony as Teresa and Liam appeared to be a united front.

The sight of Liam tenderly helping Teresa getting into the car, her spontaneous kiss, and the love between them seemed to seal Gabriel's fate. However, Gabriel's presence became known, his enigmatic smile a prelude to the unexpected encounter that was about to unfold.
