Chapter 586 I Will Take Responsibility

Watching him, William remained silent, saying nothing.

"In the past, Hayden went to great lengths to protect your child. She almost broke ties with me, hiding at her grandmother's house. For the sake of the child, she didn't even step out of The Petrova family.” Reflecting on the mistakes he made back then, Finn's brow furrowed even deeper.

"When I found out she was pregnant, the baby was already over four months old. At that time, I was deceived by Avery and was determined to marry Hayden into the Johnson family, forcing her to have an abortion."

"So, she listened to you and got rid of the baby?" William asked calmly, looking at Finn's face filled with self-blame and guilt, as he just faintly smiled, appearing incredibly serene.

Finn shook his head. "She didn't listen to me. If she had listened to me, she would have aborted the baby a long time ago, instead of waiting until the baby was over five months old."

"Why did she choose to terminate the pregnancy again?" Looking at Finn, finally, waves stirred in William's eyes.

"She did it for her sister Jocelyn, because her sister killed Nikolai for her," Finn said, suddenly chuckling in a self-deprecating manner. He continued, "Nikolai was the biological son of Avery and Pierre. Even though I managed to cover up the situation on the surface, Avery and Pierre were relentless. They wanted revenge on Hayden, to torment Hayden. Unfortunately, at that time, I mistakenly thought Avery was carrying my child, got confused, and ended up joining them in pressuring Hayden."

Listening to Finn's words, William couldn't help but be stunned. "Why did Jocelyn kill Nikolai because of Hayden?"

Without any hesitation, Finn answered, "Because at Avery's behest, Nikolai, bold and daring, actually attempted to rape Hayden from The Smith family. Jocelyn caught him in the act and plunged a knife into Nikolai's heart."

William listened, his brows trembling lightly, deep within his eyes, stirring up a stormy sea, unable to control it any longer.

"Avery threatened Hayden with the fact that Jocelyn killed Nikolai, forcing her to have an abortion and marry Hall," Finn continued slowly.

"Did you do the same thing back then?" William furrowed his brows tightly, then spoke again, his voice now hoarse.

"Yeah," Finn nodded with his eyes closed, and said heavily, "I told Hayden that if she dared to have even the slightest connection with you again, I would leave you with nothing. I would destroy Queen's Avenue Corporation, sending The Bennett family back to a remote town from the past, where you would never recover."

Watching Finn, William suddenly smirked, laughing sarcastically, his eyes filled with anger.
Six years ago, indeed, Finn had the ability to leave him with nothing. He could have destroyed Queen's Avenue Corporation without much effort.

"For you, for Jocelyn, and for the Smith family to not fall into the hands of Avery and Pierre, she chose to have an abortion, which led to severe bleeding and almost cost her life," Finn said, tears welling up in his eyes. "It's all because of me, I'm the one who caused this!"

Later, Hayden was discharged from the hospital, pretending to be with Hall, but actually infiltrating the Johnson family to uncover evidence in front of me, exposing the true identities of Avery and Pierre, who pretended to be siblings but were actually husband and wife. I thought Avery was carrying my son, so I was overjoyed and believed everything Avery said, when in reality, she was carrying Pierre's son. By this point, Finn had no more reservations and confessed everything to William.

William listened, his brows quivering, his hands supporting his forehead, and he buried his head in agony.
He couldn't understand the struggles Hayden talked about.
Now, everything is finally clear.
She had her reasons, she had her difficulties, she had her choices, but why did she never say a word to him?

"Later, Hall betrayed you, stabbed you, and you were seriously injured and rushed to the hospital for treatment. I had someone release the news that you didn't make it through the treatment and had passed away," Finn said, letting out a deep sigh. "That night, I learned all about Avery and Pierre's true identities. Upon hearing that you didn't survive the treatment, Hayden rushed to The Johnson family and avenged you by stabbing numerous holes in Hall."

So that's how it is!
Overnight, from then on, the Johnson family disappeared from Imperial Capital.

William closed his eyes, the pain evident despite his attempts to conceal it, seeping through his furrowed brow.

“After killing Hall, Hayden passed out and slept for about ten days. When she woke up, she suffered from selective amnesia, forgetting everything related to you! The doctor said it was because she was too emotionally distressed and didn't want to remember, so she chose to forget.”

Finn's eyes welled up with tears as he spoke, "Later, I sent her to study at Silverwood Springs. I thought everything would start anew, that she would never remember you again in her lifetime, remember the child she chose to abort, remember stabbing you, and causing your death with her own hands. But I was wrong, she never really let go of you."

Just as Finn's voice fell silent, a slight sound came from the ward, startling everyone. They immediately looked up to see what was happening.
Through the small transparent window on the door of the ward, everyone could see Hayden's tear-streaked face clearly.

Standing behind the door, Hayden slowly opened the door to the hospital room and looked at William. The two of them locked eyes, and Hayden lifted her leg to walk towards him.
Just as she had taken two steps, her brow furrowed deeply, she stopped, revealing a pained expression.

"Hayden," the butler who had been standing quietly on the side exclaimed, about to rush over.
However, someone was faster than the butler. By the time the butler took his first step, William had already taken three quick steps, lunged forward, and swiftly scooped up Hayden in his arms.

Suddenly, my body soared into the air. Instinctively, my hands reached for the broad shoulders of William, looking up to see the handsome face I had been yearning for day and night.

Over the past few months, she has been telling herself to forget him, to let go of their relationship. She thought she could do it, and she thought she did.
However, as soon as she saw him, in an instant, she felt defeated again, losing miserably.

William held her tightly, looking at her tear-streaked face in his arms. He forced a smile, then turned around, striding back to the ward, and gently placed her back on the hospital bed.
Hayden also looked at him, and as he put her back on the bed and left her embrace, she surprisingly found herself feeling so reluctant to let go.

So, she reached out, grabbed his hand, not wanting him to leave, and asked with a forced smile, "William, why did you choose to be with Michelle?"

Watching her, William's tears were on the verge of falling.
He slowly pried open Hayden's tightly grasped hand, raised his lips and smiled, "I'm sorry, in the end, we were not blessed by God, not that fortunate, destined not to stay together, which is why we have come to this point today."

Finally, he let go of Hayden's hand, took a step back, and smiled as he said, "Rest well, our child. I'll take care of everything."

As the words fell, he turned around, not pausing for another moment, and strode away.
"William, you stop right there!" Hayden growled, tears completely blurring her vision, but William walked away resolutely, without pausing.

"Go, call the doctor," Finn ordered the butler, his eyes turning red.

"Yes, Finn," the butler nodded and hurried off to fetch the doctor.
