Chapter 258 Haunted by Demons
The next day, Gabriel was admitted to the hospital for further tests and treatment. Apart from the Garcias, both Patrick and Sophia were clued into his condition and promptly arrived at the hospital.
After undergoing tests in the morning, a top-notch medical team specializing in oncology convened via video conference to consult and determine the best course of treatment for Gabriel. The patient himself, along with Teresa and Mason, attended the meeting while others were sent to go about their usual business.
Post-meeting, Mason headed back to the family house to rest, and Teresa accompanied Gabriel back to his ward.
“Are you taking the day off?” Gabriel asked Teresa once they were back in the ward.
As she hung his clothes neatly in the closet, Teresa nodded, “Just for a couple of days.”
“Sweetheart, my condition isn’t something that can be resolved overnight. Are you planning to quit your job and stay with me here every day?” Gabriel, donning his hospital gown with its buttons undone, approached and wrapped his arms around Teresa from behind.
After she finished with his clothes and closed the closet door, she faced him and started fastening his buttons. “If that’s what you want, I could,” she said.
Gabriel, though thinner, retained the well-defined muscles and sharp lines across his body. Even in a hospital gown, he oozed effortless charm.
“I don’t want that,” he said, shaking his head as he looked at her, “I don’t want you to sacrifice your own aspirations and dreams because of me. I just want you to be happy—to be the person you were when we first met.”
“Darling,” Teresa said, securing the final button and looking up at him with unwavering eyes, “now, you are my aspiration and dream.”
His heart melted with her words, leaving him feeling butter-soft all over.
He tipped her chin up with his long finger and leaned in to press a fervent kiss to her lips. “Knowing that I’m the one you love, that I’m the only one in your heart—that’s enough for me. Whatever else you want to do, I support you.”
Looking at him, Teresa’s smile deepened. She nodded vigorously and went on tiptoe to initiate another kiss. Gabriel was unable to resist. He spun her agilely and pressed her against the closet door, deepening their tender embrace.
The sharp click of the door latch broke the moment.
“Get out!”
“Sorry to interrupt...” the young nurse stammered as she pushed the door open, inadvertently interrupting a heated exchange between Gabriel and Teresa. Startled by Gabriel’s growl, she quickly averted her gaze and apologized profusely.
“Hold on a second,” Teresa called out to the nurse, who had already started to back out of the room, locking eyes with Gabriel sternly. “It’s okay, come on in.”
With Teresa’s approval, the nurse nervously re-entered, continuing her apologies, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to...”
“It’s fine, just remember to knock next time,” Teresa responded as she gently pushed the man still hovering over her aside and looked curiously at the cart the nurse had brought in. “Are you here to take his blood pressure?”
“Yes, ma’am.” The nurse replied, “The doctor sent me to check Mr. Garcia’s blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature.”
“All right, let’s get started,” Teresa said as she pulled Gabriel down to sit on the couch, making room for the nurse to do her work.
...
“Liam, our team has found out that Yvonne has been seen with Zack Yellen quite a bit lately. Tessa Yellen has been tagging along with and met Yvonne twice,” Chuck reported earnestly in the CEO’s office on the top floor of the Evans Group skyscraper.
Liam sat in the executive chair in front of his desk, nodding slightly while perusing a document.
It seemed increasingly likely that Tessa’s approach had something to do with Yvonne.
Yvonne, irredeemable as ever, still harbored the delusion of controlling him even now.
“What else has Yvonne been up to recently besides meeting Zack Yellen?” Liam asked in an indifferent tone.
“Plenty. She’s been mingling with some showbiz folks, especially those young rising stars. A lot of them have spent the night,” Chuck disclosed without holding back.
The image of fifty-something Yvonne with twenty-something young studs popped into Liam’s mind, eliciting a faint sneer from him.
It seemed that Yvonne’s true colors had been unleashed since severing ties with the Evans family.
“Has Diana been in contact with her since yesterday?” Liam asked, right on the heels of his amusement.
“No,” Chuck shook his head as he looked at Liam. “Yvonne’s trying to cozy up to Diana—probably as payback against Teresa. After all, Diana and Teresa are tight.”
Liam nodded. “Keep an eye on Diana. If she gets in touch with Yvonne, I want to know immediately.”
“Got it.”
Knock, knock.
