Chapter 438 William and Hayden (39)

Thankfully, Hayden was 22 and had a strong personality. She wasn't the kind to be pushed around or manipulated easily.

Regardless, he was now by her side and vowed to do everything in his power to protect her from any harm.

After reviewing her report, he stood up and walked over to where Hayden was sitting.

Engrossed in reading her materials, Hayden felt a familiar presence approach. She looked up to see William standing beside her. His eyes twinkled with traces of a smile, exuding a tenderness beyond words.

"The report is excellent; you can take it straight to Catherine for her review and signature." Even though his gaze held a depth of emotion, his words were strictly professional.

"Alright, I know." Hayden nodded, quickly averting her gaze because her heart had already begun to race uncontrollably.

After all, she was the newcomer, an intern in the office, and she wanted to keep her boss and colleagues from knowing about her relationship with William.

Although there was no official policy against it, it would inevitably affect them if their relationship became public.

William, noticing her shyness, smiled and returned to his desk.

Internships typically lasted half a day.

We were passed in the blink of an eye the morning because Hayden was in such high spirits.

But when lunch break came around, Hayden was in no rush to leave.

Reading her mind, William took the lead and left.

Hayden was somewhat irritated to see him walk away without saying goodbye. After sitting stunned for a bit longer, she finally gathered her things, greeted a few colleagues, and left the office.

She didn't expect that. Upon exiting the elevator, she lifted her eyes to meet William's intense, luminous gaze, who was waiting outside for her.

"Lunch together?"

Looking at Hayden, still standing outside the elevator, William lowered his head with a chuckle and strode over with long steps, seemingly unconcerned about being noticed by familiar colleagues. He reached out and enveloped Hayden's hand, which was hanging by her side, and spoke softly to her.

Seeing him, the last bit of irritation in Hayden's heart dissolved. She smiled and nodded in agreement, "Sure! But I'd like it to be something you've cooked."

"Alright." William agreed indulgently, "Whatever you want to eat, I'll make it for you."

Hayden laughed, her fingers stretching out to interlock with his, their hands entwined.

William grinned back, gripped her hand tightly, and led her away.

Hayden hadn't driven to work that day, preferring to keep a low profile.

Remaining under the radar was the best way to learn and gain real skills. That was the whole point of her internship.

So, with Hayden in the passenger seat, William drove back to his apartment.

The tenderness William showed Hayden was beyond her expectations; not only did he buckle her in himself, but he also held her hand throughout the drive, never letting go.

Watching him drive one-handedly, clinging to her without any intention of letting go, Hayden chuckled, "Are you afraid I'm going to run off?"

William drove with concentration, glancing swiftly at Hayden as soon as he heard her, a smile playing on his lips as he nodded seriously, "Right, I'm afraid you might run away."

Hayden looked at him, speechless.

They say love is in the eye of the beholder, and indeed, it seemed to be the case.

Ever since she had fallen in love with this man, she found him becoming increasingly handsome, to the point where even his profile was stunningly attractive.

"Hayden." Since she remained silent, William called her gently again.

"Uh-huh," Hayden watched him intently, waiting for him to continue.

William quickly glanced at her again, his expression earnest and sincere as he spoke, "Now that we are officially a couple, why don't you move in with me?"

"Live together?!" Even though she had accepted that William was her girlfriend, Hayden was surprised by the idea of moving in together.

"This..." Hayden hesitated as she looked at him, furrowing her brows, "Let me think about it."

After another glance and seeing the hesitancy in her eyes, William didn't force the issue, simply nodding and agreeing, "Okay." He then asked, "Have you been staying at Orion Nash's villa these past few days?"

If that was the case, William could confirm who the man was that had answered the phone that night; only later did he remember the voice sounded familiar.

"Yeah, why do you ask?" Hayden inquired curiously.

William chuckled, shook his head, and asked, "Is it because of that mouse incident?"

Looking at him, Hayden nodded, "That's right, but the main reason is Michelle. I don't like her."

William drove on, stealing another glance at her and smiling with a nod.

As he remained silent, just smiling, a wave of annoyance washed over Hayden.

She had made her feelings quite clear; shouldn't William at least explain his relationship with Michelle?

Sensing the shift in Hayden's mood, William glanced at her again. Approaching a red light at the intersection, he brought the car to a gentle stop and turned to her, his tone serious, "There's really nothing between Michelle and me. We're not even friends, just acquaintances from school."

"What about that night in the library when you left holding her?" Hayden said with a drooping face, clearly displeased.

She suddenly became upset, and he could guess why, which showed he had some insight.

That night, it must have been Jasper who told Michelle about me heading to the library. When I got there, Michelle showed up and sat next to me. It wasn't long before you arrived," William explained earnestly, continuing, " Michelle's stomach started to hurt. She looked to be in a lot of pain and asked me to take her back to the dorm to get her medicine. She could hardly walk on her own, and seeing how much she was hurting, I carried her back."

"Huh..." Hayden's lips twitched with disdain as she listened to his response, "You seem to have a lot of sympathy."
