Chapter 510 William and Hayden (111)
Maddox stood a few meters away, listening to the conversation between William and the doctor. He felt a bit confused and only now fully understood what was going on.
Hayden was pregnant, and the child was William's.
Oh my god! Although Maddox had witnessed countless big scenes and experienced numerous business negotiations, he was still shocked.
What shocked him was not that Hayden was pregnant with William's child, but that she hadn't let anyone know while working tirelessly every day.
What was Hayden planning?
William watched as the doctor returned to the emergency room. He turned and looked at Maddox not far away.
Obviously, by now, Maddox had understood everything and raised his head to meet William's deep and calm gaze.
"Maddox, do me a favor and name your condition," William said directly, looking at Maddox.
Maddox also looked at him, smiling and saying, "Why don't you tell me what you need help with first, William?"
"Forget everything that happened tonight as if it never occurred, and don't mention it to anyone," William said, squinting his eyes, each word carrying a gentle warmth. He had no emotions, but he had immense pressure.
Maddox offered a reassuring smile. "This matter between you and Sylvia is confidential. I see no reason to bring it up with anyone else."
William nodded in genuine appreciation. "I'm grateful, Maddox. If you ever require Michael's assistance, rest assured, I'll spare no effort to help."
With a congenial nod and a smile, Maddox replied, "Understood."
As Maddox finished speaking, medical staff pushed Hayden out of the emergency room by.
Although she was still lying on a stretcher, she had woken up. There was a needle in her hand connected to an IV drip.
She caught sight of William standing outside with a sparkle in her eyes for a split second, but she turned her head away, avoiding eye contact with him.
Her indifference was clear, but William didn't mind. He walked a few steps toward her with his long legs and held her hand, asking with great concern, "Hayden, how do you feel?"
Hayden didn't look at him. She just pulled her hand out of his and didn't respond to his words.
William ignored her reaction and kept his gaze fixed on her as he pushed her toward the VIP ward. Maddox followed behind them.
When they arrived in the hospital room and settled Hayden in, the doctor gave some instructions and left.
Maddox didn't feel the need to join them inside the room now that he knew about William and Hayden's relationship. He stood at the doorway without entering.
After everyone left, only Hayden and William remained in the hospital room. William pulled a chair next to the bed and sat down.
Hayden turned her face away, refusing to look at him, and said in a cold and resolute tone, "You can leave now."
"Hayden, I'm sorry." William watched her and didn't dare hold her hand out of fear of her extreme reaction.
"You don’t have to say that." Hayden still wouldn’t look at him, her tone icy and decisive. "You can go now, William, and don't make me say it a third time."
William couldn't help but reach out and hold her hand, almost pleadingly saying, "Come back to me, Hayden. Let me sit with you and our child, okay?"
Unexpectedly, as soon as he held Hayden's hand, she forcefully shook it off and immediately turned her head, staring at him with intense anger, and nearly growled, "William, if you want our child to be fine, you better disappear from my sight right now. Otherwise, you know what will happen if I get worked up."
William froze for a moment.
The door was not closed, and outside, Maddox heard Hayden's low growl. He sensed that the situation was not good. He got up and walked over.
When he reached the front of the hospital room door and saw the tense atmosphere between the two people inside, he coughed lightly and covered his mouth, saying, "Let me take care of Sylvia, William."
William stared at Hayden, but finally snapped out of it.
He looked up and glanced at Maddox standing in the doorway.
He remembered what the doctor had said.
He couldn’t provoke Hayden right now.
Raising his hand, he wiped his face and slowly stood up. He took one more deep look at the furious Hayden on the bed, and started walking toward the door.
When he reached Maddox's side, he paused and said in a deep voice, "Thank you, Maddox. I'm counting on you."
Maddox looked at him and nodded.
William smiled gratefully and finally left.
After he left, Maddox walked to the side of the bed and looked at Hayden. The anger on his face had completely disappeared, replaced with a look of disappointment and distraction.
"Why did you have to do this?" Maddox said with a helpless smile.
Hayden looked up at him, suddenly feeling tears well up in her eyes.
"Do you want me to go bring William back?" Maddox smiled at her.
Hayden shook her head. "Maddox, can I ask you a favor?"
"Okay." Maddox nodded and sat down on the chair next to the bed. "Tell me."
"Don't mention what happened tonight to anyone, and it would be best if you use a pseudonym for me at the hospital," Hayden pleaded as she looked at Maddox.
"Do you and William really care about this so much?" Maddox was puzzled.
Hayden smiled bitterly. "Some things are too complicated to explain. I'll tell you when I get a chance."
Maddox nodded, looking at her.
"You promised to keep it a secret, right? Absolutely do not mention it to anyone," Hayden confirmed.
This was about the life and death of her unborn child, and she had to deal with it.
Maddox nodded. "You're begging me like this, of course I’ll agree?"
Hayden smiled sincerely and said, "Thank you." Then she looked at the half-finished medicine and added, "I can't stay in the hospital for too long. I have to leave once I finish the medicine."
Maddox shook his head. "The doctor said you need to stay in the hospital for two days under observation."
Hayden shook her head as well. "If Finn or someone from the family finds out, they’ll ask me why I'm in the hospital, and it’ll affect the baby in my belly."
She looked at Maddox but didn't say the rest.
Maddox understood the meaning behind her words and nodded. "At least wait until tomorrow morning after the medicine is finished, and if you're feeling fine, then you can leave."
Hayden shook her head and insisted, "I'd rather leave after I finish the medicine. I'll take care of myself."
She couldn't take any risks.
The Smith Group was such a big company that Finn could easily find out where she was.
Maddox looked at her, contemplating for a moment, and finally nodded. "Alright, I'll go see the doctor."
"Thank you." Hayden nodded. After watching Maddox leave, her eyes suddenly welled up with tears.
She raised her hand and gently touched her small abdomen, feeling the slight bump. The baby was still there, and she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
'Baby, you have to be strong; don't disappoint me!
'No matter how difficult things get, I’ll protect you!'
In her mind, she suddenly saw the image of William leaving with a never-before-seen sense of defeat and loneliness.
William was proud, but he had been humiliated and beaten by her time and time again. Would he really...
No, he wouldn't.
He would understand her. If their child was safe, he would definitely understand her.
