Chapter 120 The Proposal Test
The retaliation from the Ashford family this time resulted in significant losses. Seizing the opportunity, the Power Group acquired scattered shares of the Ashford Group, accounting for approximately 30%. Together with the 25% of shares that Nina eventually transferred, the Power Group now held a 55% stake in the Ashford Group, becoming the largest shareholder.
Furthermore, with Nina's departure, the Ashford Group rapidly fell to become a subsidiary of the Power Group.
As agreed, William split off Nina's Flying Live to establish it as an independent company. High Culture initially invested 100 million USD, owning 70% of the shares, and later planned to add another nine billion USD for further support, considering it as a business expansion for High Culture.
George and Jovan have learned their lesson this time! They now have to act according to the Power Group's wishes, or they might not even retain their positions as chairpersons. Consider it a lesson for them!
"Now it's finally peaceful." William sat on the couch in Sophia's villa, browsing the local news on his phone. The news reported the Power Group's acquisition of a 55% stake in the Ashford Group.
This event also made New Yorkers feel the terror of the Power Group. Within just a few days, the Ashford Group had become a subsidiary of the Power Group, which was truly regrettable.
For a while, no one in New York dared to test the limits of the Power Group anymore.
"William, I'll be leaving in a few days. Three months from now, I'll be holding a concert in another city. If you have time, you can come over and take a look." Sophia wore a white silk nightgown that only reached her knees, revealing her attractive pair of white legs underneath.
Gracefully, she approached William and handed him a concert ticket she had in her hand.
"You're leaving?" William was somewhat surprised. He put away his phone and turned to face Sophia. He was momentarily stunned by her stunningly beautiful face, but quickly regained his composure. It had nearly been a month since they started spending time together.
But he hadn't discussed the engagement yet, and if he didn't do it soon, he might miss the chance!
William thought for a moment and could only use a hypothetical scenario to test Sophia's opinion on such topics. Tentatively, he asked Sophia, "Sophia, I have a friend who wants to divorce his fiancée. Do you think his fiancée would agree?"
After a pause, he added, "They were arranged to be married since childhood, and the engagement was made when they were born. However, they've never met or developed any feelings for each other as they grew up."
"Your friend wants a divorce?" Sophia tilted her head and pondered for a moment before saying, "That's not right! Since it was arranged by their parents, they should honor the commitment."
"But my friend already has a girlfriend whom he loves, and their relationship is great," William said anxiously.
"In that case, it's even worse! If a man knows he's engaged but still tries to pursue someone else, isn't he a scumbag? If it were me, I would definitely teach that scumbag a lesson." Sophia seemed to despise such behavior. She also inadvertently crumpled the concert ticket in her hand.
William felt a chill in his heart. He hadn't expected Sophia to oppose the idea of divorce so strongly. Luckily, he hadn't asked directly, or it would have ended badly.
"I was just talking. Don't take it seriously. I'll go and advise my friend not to divorce his fiancée." William awkwardly laughed after swallowing a gulp of saliva. He concealed the matter and sighed inwardly. He could only postpone it for now!
In Sophia's last few days in New York, William had planned to take her out to have some fun. However, an unexpected visitor disrupted their plans.
The doorbell of the villa rang, and William wanted to go and answer it, but Sophia, who was having breakfast, stopped him.
"I'll get it. It might be Fiona," Sophia said, putting down her scrambled eggs. She hastily got up and went to the door, indicating that this Fiona person was important to her.
As expected, when the door opened, Sophia saw a youthful and elegant girl. She had a sweet and innocent appearance, with her black hair casually flowing over her shoulders. A white butterfly-shaped hair accessory adorned her head.
Her innocent and sweet face gave off a feeling of first love. She wore a pink pleated dress that accentuated her slender legs wrapped in white stockings, creating a charming image.
"Fiona, you're here! Come in!" Sophia was delighted to see Fiona Turner and helped bring in her luggage.
"Cousin, it's been ages. You're getting more beautiful!" Fiona complimented as she walked into the villa, curiously observing her surroundings.
However, in the corner of her eye, she quickly noticed the presence of a man named William in the villa. She glanced up and down, her eyes showing a hint of disdain at his cheap clothing.
"Cousin, is this your new male nanny?"
"Male nanny?" William was slightly speechless to hear her calling him a male nanny.
"Don't talk nonsense. He is my guide in New York and also my fan. So, whenever you stay here and want to go anywhere, just ask him! He knows all the fun places to eat, drink, and play.
"By the way, this time you ran away. How long do you plan to stay here with me?" Sophia couldn't help but ask with concern.
"I didn't run away this time. I made an agreement with my dad. He gave me a year to pursue what I want. If I achieve results, I'll be free in the future. But if I don't, then I'll obediently go back to his company." Fiona sat down on the sofa and felt a bit thirsty. She gestured to William and said, "You, bring me a glass of water. I'm thirsty."
She really treated William as a male nanny to give him orders.
"Don't you have hands to get water yourself?" William furrowed his brows. It seemed that all the men she had encountered before were eager to please her and fulfill her every request, resulting in her spoiled and capricious temperament.
"You!" Fiona became a bit angry. How could this man completely ignore her sweet appearance? The previous men would all come to flatter her and cater to her every demand.
Unlike this bastard in front of her, daring to scold her!
"My name is William Brown. If you disrespect me, believe me, I'll hit you!" William raised his fist and threatened her.
"You... you're bullying me. Cousin, quickly kick him out. I don't want to see this bastard." Fiona was very angry. How could she tolerate being bullied by a poor man wearing cheap clothes?
"Alright, alright, stop causing a scene." Sophia quickly poured a glass of water for Fiona and comforted her. Then, she changed the topic and asked, "By the way, what do you plan to do this time? Do you need my help?"
"I want to become a big star like you, so my dad won't bother me anymore." Fiona cast a resentful glance at William, then turned to Sophia with a hint of expectation and desire in her eyes as she spoke.
"You want to become a star? Can you sing or act?" Sophia felt a headache coming on. This girl always had unexpected wants.
Fiona shook her head, indicating that she couldn't do either, but quickly added, "I can join variety shows! You're participating in Season 2 of 'Wilderness Life,' right? After the news was released, it became the number one trending topic on Instagram. When the show airs, it's definitely going to have high ratings."
Speaking up, Fiona suddenly pleaded with Sophia, her eyes pitiful, "Cousin, can you talk to the show's producer and ask them to include me in the new season of 'Wilderness Life'?"
Upon hearing this, Sophia couldn't help but open her mouth in surprise. She realized that Fiona had seen the raging news of her joining Season 2 of 'Wilderness Life' on Instagram and had come running to ride on the popularity wave, hoping for overnight fame.
"If you want to participate in Season 2 of 'Wilderness Life,' then you've asked the wrong person. The person you should be asking is him," Sophia said, pointing at William with her finger.
Following Sophia's gesture, Fiona saw William, dressed in cheap clothes, and couldn't help but open her mouth, asking in disbelief, "What does he have to do with joining Season 2 of 'Wilderness Life'? He's just a poor guy with no background. What can we expect from him?"
"You're mistaken. He is the producer of 'Wilderness Life' and also the manager of High Culture Productions." Sophia couldn't help but shake her head.
"He, he, he is the producer of 'Wilderness Life'??" Fiona was dumbfounded. She had just argued with him a moment ago and even treated him like a nanny, asking him to pour water. Now, there was no chance for her!
Does it mean she has to go back like this? If that's the case, won't her father and siblings make fun of her?
Fiona gritted her teeth and, for the sake of her dream of becoming a big star, she apologized weakly to William, "William, I apologize for my behavior. Please don't mind."
Fiona's apology left Sophia stunned. She actually knows how to apologize too?
"I'm thirsty, go pour me a glass of water." William's lips curled up.
