Chapter 328 Duel Challenge
With this leverage over Malcolm, William believed that Holden would restrain himself. And indeed, the next day, William couldn't find any information about Sophia being pursued on the bounty list.
It seemed that Holden was doing everything possible to ensure his son's life.
This gave William some peace of mind, but he couldn't relax his guard just yet. Who knew if another opponent targeting the alliance between the Smith family and the Brown family would emerge?
On this day, William prepared a table full of dishes to celebrate.
"Dig in. I made a lot today, enough for all of you," William said in a good mood.
"Great, great! Bring them all out quickly," Sophia eagerly said.
"I can't wait either. I'm sure it'll be delicious," Fiona drooled.
"I can't wait either!" Kylie impatiently chimed in.
William shook his head helplessly. Soon, he brought out the chicken cutlets, steaming hot and appetizing. It was evident that they would taste delicious.
The three women quickly grabbed their utensils and started devouring the food.
Just as William was about to pick up his chopsticks, Sophia lovingly poured him a cup of hot coffee.
"William, hot coffee!" she said, her eyes filled with adoration, almost overflowing.
Fiona was busy enjoying the chicken and didn't pay much attention, but Kylie, who was a few years older, noticed and felt a sense of unease. She sensed that things were unfolding in a way she didn't wish to see. Suddenly, she remembered something and turned to ask.
"William, Sophia, a few days ago, when you both went to Malcolm's banquet, why didn't you come back that night? I called you, but it said your phones were turned off."
As soon as the words fell, the atmosphere froze. Sophia dared not tell Kylie the truth about that night, blushing and lowering her head, afraid of revealing any flaws.
"That night, Malcolm and the old man wanted to kill us. I protected Sophia and we hid. We stayed hidden overnight. As for the phones, I didn't want any calls to attract their attention, so I turned them off," William casually made up an excuse, his expression calm as if that night was just as he described.
"Really?" Kylie looked at Sophia, somewhat disbelieving.
"It's true. You wouldn't believe that Malcolm wanted to kidnap me, and the old man next to him is quite formidable. Thankfully, William protected me, or else I would have been taken away," Sophia lied smoothly, imitating William's calm demeanor and continued eating her chicken.
"Alright!" Kylie temporarily believed their words. However, as she saw Sophia sneak glances at William every now and then, her face turning red, her worry grew. She felt she needed to separate them promptly to avoid any potential trouble. She then thought for a moment and spoke seriously.
"Sophia, I'm thinking of taking you back to Canada in a few days. It's safer to stay at home with your father and the martial arts expert for protection than to stay here."
"Why? It's safer here with William's protection, and I haven't had enough fun yet," Sophia refused, deflecting. She no longer wanted to be separated from William, wishing to spend more time with him.
"Let's go back to Canada first. I'm looking out for your best interest," Kylie put down her cutlery, her face turning cold.
"I don't want to go back," Sophia glanced at William and rejected once again.
Kylie became angry all of a sudden. Sophia had always listened to her before, so her stubbornness this time caught her off guard.
"Sophia, you've changed. Are you falling for this poor guy?" Kylie coldly pointed at William.
"What nonsense are you talking about? How is that even possible?" Sophia dared not admit it and even avoided eye contact with Kylie. She was afraid of revealing anything to her.
"Fine, since that's how it is, I'll have your father come and fetch you personally." Kylie knew Sophia too well. Sophia's evasive gaze had already given her away. She could no longer let this situation continue, or it would end up uncontrollable.
After saying that, Kylie didn't even touch her chicken steak. She directly went upstairs to make a phone call.
Sophia, on the other hand, had lost her appetite and even started to worry.
"Don't worry, when your father comes, I will explain to him properly. If possible, I'll have your father officially hire me as your bodyguard, so we'll be aboveboard," William said with a smile.
"I hope so," Sophia lacked confidence. Her father was most concerned about her getting close to boys, let alone this time with Kylie personally making the phone call. He would certainly force her to leave.
During the days while waiting for Sophia's father to arrive, William had something important to take care of, a significant martial arts matter involving Long Island.
Last week at Horn Villa, Zeke showed William a couple of moves but ended up losing. William couldn't accept it and before leaving...
William made an appointment with Zeke for a martial arts competition at Grey Hill this week.
This time, William went alone and thought it would be a simple competition. But to his surprise, when he arrived at Grey Hill, he saw many practitioners of Long Island's boxing techniques, people of all ages and both genders.
"There are so many people! There must be no less than a thousand!" William was a bit astonished.
In fact, William underestimated the impact of a martial arts competition between two grandmaster-level experts. It's important to note that becoming a grandmaster is extremely rare, so those skilled individuals didn't want to miss out on watching two grandmasters compete.
The key is that one of them, Zeke, is already famous in the world of Long Island's boxing. It was also heard that this time, a young man in his early twenties challenged him, which added to the appeal of this competition.
As soon as William arrived at the foot of the mountain, he overheard some boxing practitioners walking by, quietly discussing.
"Did you hear? It seems that a young man in his twenties is here to challenge Zeke."
"I heard that, but what kind of strength can one have in their twenties? I'm guessing he just wants to gain fame by challenging Zeke."
"This young man is truly overestimating himself. He dares to challenge Zeke? I bet he'll end up seriously injured."
These boxing practitioners didn't have high expectations for William. It's understandable why they would think that way since he was just in his twenties. How much strength could he have?
Hearing this, William smiled but didn't say anything. He took a few more steps and heard someone shouting halfway up the mountain.
"Betting is now open! Accepting money, treasures, and weapons."
Suddenly, William became interested. Wasn't this an opportunity for him to make a big profit?
