Chapter 124 The Chaotic Bidding
William used only thirty percent of his strength to make Merrick scream in pain.
"Let go, my hand is going to break!" Merrick pleaded.
"Next time I see you, I'll hurt you again. Now get lost." William's tone was cold as ice as he shook off Merrick's hand.
Merrick's hand throbbed in pain, and his face turned pale.
"Bastard, I'll have someone teach you a lesson later!" Merrick spat out these harsh words before walking away sullenly.
"William, you're amazing! This scum deserved to be taught a lesson," Noah said, feeling relieved when she saw Merrick scurrying away.
"It's nothing. Earlier at the elevator on the first floor, I fought off four of them single-handedly and chased Ben away," William replied nonchalantly, with Michelle intimately linking her arm with his, looking proud.
"Is that so? But don't underestimate Ben. William, be careful. This guy might seek revenge," Noah reminded, expressing her concern.
William nodded. He didn't care about the Davis family.
Since William drove Merrick away, no man dared to provoke him again.
An hour later, Secretary General Billy Beckett, wearing black-framed glasses and a smiling face, walked in. Many young people seemed to recognize him and went up to greet him.
William couldn't help but take a few more glances. Billy seemed to be in his thirties but had already reached the position of Secretary General. This showed that he had a strong ability and background. Moreover, from his demeanor, it could be seen that he had good cultivation.
"The Secretary General is Billy. It seems that Mr. Parker couldn't make it today and sent him to preside instead," Noah said, seemingly familiar with Billy. From her words, it seemed that she had come here more than once.
They gathered at the youth gathering.
To confirm Noah's words, Billy took the microphone and made an announcement. The general idea was to thank everyone for coming, but unfortunately, Mr. Parker went elsewhere for an investigation and couldn't make it today. He would be the host in Mr. Parker's absence.
It seemed that everyone agreed with Billy's hosting. He seemed to have quite a reputation among these young people.
"Alright, everyone, now let's begin the charity auction. The proceeds will be donated to the local orphanage fund," Billy said.
As soon as he finished speaking, the young people attending the gathering were all excited and eager for this moment to arrive.
Especially those wealthy heirs from a few families, they had been eagerly anticipating this. This charity auction not only allowed them to gain publicity but also win Beckett's favor. It also provided an opportunity for them to showcase their family's strength among their peers.
"What about the charity auction?" Michelle, who was attending for the first time, didn't know about this event.
"The charity auction is an annual event. Young people compete against each other through the form of a charity auction, which is most appropriate! It can help the needy orphans, allow the auction participants to gain publicity, and win Mr. Parker's favor.
"Additionally, the more money one contributes, the higher is the chance of being selected as one of the top ten outstanding young people this year," Noah explained with a smile. She didn't oppose this charity auction, and even supported it to some extent. It was a win-win activity.
"Mr. Parker has ideas," William nodded as well. He wanted the young people to be convinced, and this method was the most effective. It satisfied their desire to compete with each other while developing the city's orphanage assistance work. Adding the title of one of the top ten outstanding young people would further motivate them.
Beckett was indeed an expert in understanding human nature. It seemed that those who could become mayor were not mediocre individuals.
"Noah, where can we get the auction number plates?" William became interested in this event too. He thought that if there were items he liked later, he could bid for them, so he asked Noah.
"You can register over there at the entrance. It's probably crowded now. We can go there later." Noah instinctively glanced at the entrance, where many people were already picking up their auction number plates.
William nodded. It was indeed too crowded right now, so they could wait a little longer.
Half an hour later, there were noticeably fewer people registering and picking up their number plates. William and the others walked over, but unexpectedly, they ran into their enemy, Ben.
"You bastard, are you also here to get an auction number plate? Do you have money?" Ben remembered the grudge and naturally didn't show a friendly expression toward William.
"Dressed like a beggar and still have the audacity to get an auction number plate? Why don't you go pick up trash instead!"
"People like you from the lower class shouldn't come and waste resources. Just hurry up and get lost!"
Embarrassed by their loss of face, the rich brats seemed to have finally found an opportunity to regain their pride, and they began taunting William.
"What does it have to do with you if there's money involved? Just get lost!" Noah said.
"We're having a conversation here. What business is it of yours?" A beautiful woman beside Ben also stepped forward, confronting Noah with her imposing presence.
"Do you want to fight?" William clenched his fist and waved it in front of them, his eyes cold. It wasn't a threat; if Ben dared to provoke him even a little, William wouldn't mind beating him up again.
"Don't get too cocky. You'll regret it after the gathering is over!" Ben knew he couldn't beat William, so he wouldn't be foolish enough to confront him now. He had already called people to the hotel, and he would seek revenge after the gathering!
After uttering this threat, Ben and his companions left.
William didn't care about their schemes. This hotel was their family's property, and there were plenty of security guards. If Ben dared to openly plot against him, William wouldn't hesitate to take him down.
Soon, William registered his auction number, and Noah and Michelle each registered one as well, claiming that they wanted to participate in the auction too, their faces filled with anticipation.
Seeing this, William couldn't help but smile. It seemed they also wanted to compete.
However, most of the young people attending the gathering had registered for the auction. Since they came, they would surely participate in this event.
"Let's sit over there!" After receiving their auction numbers, Noah took Michelle's hand and led her to a corner near the wall. Michelle also liked tranquility, so she held onto William's arm and followed.
The charity auction was about to begin. Billy, the secretary-general, personally hosted the charity auction.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the first item up for auction is a pearl necklace, starting at a price of ten thousand dollars. Each bid must increase by at least ten thousand dollars. Bidding can now begin!" As soon as Billy finished speaking, several auction numbers were raised. It was clear that the pearl necklace was in high demand.
"Twenty thousand dollars."
"Fifty thousand dollars."
"One hundred thousand dollars."
The bidding price skyrocketed, and within just five minutes, it had reached three hundred thousand dollars. Moreover, most of the bidders were women, showing that this item had great allure for them.
"Four hundred thousand dollars." Noah unexpectedly raised her auction number, seemingly fond of the pearl necklace, which was why she made a bid.
"Five hundred thousand dollars." The woman sitting next to Ben saw Noah's bid and immediately raised her number without hesitation. This woman was the same one who had clashed with Noah earlier, the one from the East District, Miss M.
People from the Miller family are wealthy, including Alice.
Upon seeing the woman she had encountered before, Noah felt a surge of competitiveness. She raised her paddle again and said, "600,000 dollars."
This price was a bit high for a pearl necklace, and many people were no longer willing to bid.
"700,000 dollars." Alice immediately raised the bid without hesitation, a hint of provocation in her eyes.
"Damn, this woman seems to be challenging me!" Noah gritted her teeth. She didn't want to lose to this woman, so she quickly bid again, "750,000 dollars."
"One million dollars," Alice seemed confident and directly raised the price to one million dollars. She wanted to suppress Noah's momentum.
Ben, who was standing beside them, couldn't help but slightly smile. "Alice, well done!"
Noah felt frustrated. She really liked this pearl necklace, but she couldn't afford to bid any higher. She had prepared one million dollars, and going beyond that amount was just too much for her. She had to reluctantly give up.
"One million dollars for the first time," Billy counted when he saw that no one else was bidding.
The people below didn't make any further bids. This was only the first item, and they weren't in a hurry to bid.
"One million dollars for the second time."
No one below made another bid. Alice smiled, a hint of smugness on her face. It seemed that she had won against Noah.
However, her dream was shattered by a voice.
"Two million dollars." William raised his paddle and directly doubled the price.
