Chapter 306 The League of Killers and the Bounty List
"I'm looking for Sophia. Her father has something for me to give her," the short-haired woman said calmly.
"Hand it to me! I'll give it to her." William didn't let her in, but stopped her instead, as he sensed a hint of danger from her. He couldn't just let her in without precautions; it would be too risky.
"Sorry, her father instructed that it must be delivered into her own hands." After giving William a glance, the short-haired woman calmly replied.
"Alright, wait here. I'll go get her." William frowned slightly, but with him around, this woman wouldn't be able to pull any tricks. However, if she was truly sent by Sophia's father, he couldn't keep her outside for too long.
William called Sophia over.
"My dad asked you to bring me something? I had no idea," Sophia furrowed her brows. Besides, her dad never used this method to give her things.
"Your birthday is the day after tomorrow, and your dad wants to give you something special," the woman said with a calm expression.
Sophia glanced at William, unsure about the situation. William signaled her to go ahead and listen.
"Alright, thank you. The day after tomorrow is indeed my birthday, you can give it to me," Sophia said with a hint of suspicion. She reached out her hand, ready to receive the gift.
"Surprise, this is the secret gift I was sent to deliver," the woman with short hair said, looking directly at Sophia.
Sophia, seemingly believing her words, walked forward and reached out her hands to accept the woman's gift. A cold, gleaming little knife emerged from beneath the gift, directly aimed at Sophia, hidden behind the gift box.
An ordinary person would never have noticed the sneak attack of this small knife.
However, to her surprise, a hand suddenly reached out without any warning, tightly gripping her wrist, preventing the knife from going any further.
The woman exerted all her strength, attempting to stab forward, but was horrified to find it futile. The person's strength was immense, so much so that no matter how much effort she put in, she couldn't surpass him.
"How is this possible? How can this person be so strong?"
"You're asking for trouble." William's gaze turned cold as he suddenly unleashed his supernatural power, directly snapping her wrist.
"Ah!" The woman with short hair let out a miserable cry, and only then did Sophia react, seeing the fallen knife on the ground. She immediately took a few steps back in fright, not expecting someone to attempt assassinating her inside the villa.
"Who sent you?" William asked, his voice chillier than ever.
He realized now that the situation of Sophia being targeted for assassination was escalating. It seemed like there were many people targeting the Smith family, and it appeared that the competition among Canada's major aristocratic families was intensifying. However, one major advantage the Smith family had was their alliance with the Brown family.
Therefore, assassinating Sophia was the most effective means to undermine this advantage.
"Hmph." The woman with short hair gritted her teeth and let out a cold snort. Suddenly, another small knife slid out from the sleeve of her free hand, gripping it tightly and stabbing towards William at a tricky angle. The speed with which she moved was extremely fast, clearly she was highly skilled. Furthermore, the manner in which the knife had been concealed in the gift box also proving this. Leaving no doubt that this woman was a highly skilled, professional assassin.
William was not giving her any opportunity. His cold gaze etched on his face; he grabbed her other wrist, and with a firm twist, there was a crisp sound of bones breaking as her other wrist was also snapped.
The second small knife dropped, and she cried out in agony.
This painful cry alarmed Kylie and Fiona in the room, and Sophia was so frightened that she quickly moved backwards trying to get a safe distance from this woman.
"I'll ask you again, who sent you? If you don't speak, I'll first disable your limbs, and then slowly cut you until you take your last breath," William threatened, a hint of intimidation in his voice.
As he spoke, William picked up the fallen knife from the ground, teasingly waving it in front of her, ready to make the first cut on her face.
Seeing William's icy expression, the woman knew he wasn't joking. After hesitating for a moment, she finally spoke.
"Someone placed a bounty on Sophia's head..."
"On the bounty list, anyone who takes on a mission will receive information about the target from the employer. Assassins use the information provided to independently plan the assassination."
"Bounty list?" William was taken aback. No wonder there have been grandmaster-level experts coming to assassinate Sophia recently. It seemed that he too was now on the bounty list. With this realization, William suddenly became curious about this bounty list.
"Yes, someone is offering a billion dollars for Sophia's life," the woman with short hair continued.
When she mentioned this massive bounty, it not only shocked Sophia, but even William was dumbfounded. Not to mention Kylie and Fiona.
"One billion dollars. Who wants me dead so badly?" Sophia suddenly felt like the whole world was after her, filling her with fear and anxiety.
"Where can I see the bounty list?" William spoke up, wanting to see how much Mr. Brown's identity was worth.
"Ordinary people can't see the bounty list. Only members of the Assassin's Alliance can access and take on missions. It's not open to the public," the woman with short hair continued, enduring the pain.
"Then, with your authorization, show me the bounty list," William threatened coldly.
The short-haired woman hesitated for a moment. Showing the bounty list to an outsider would violate the organization's rules. However, upon seeing the small knife in William's hand, she tentatively asked,
"If I show it to you, will you let me go?"
"It depends on your performance," William replied calmly.
"Fine." After a brief agreement, the short-haired woman continued, "There's a cellphone in my pocket. Help me take it out."
With both her wrists broken, she couldn't retrieve the phone herself, so she had to rely on William.
Without hesitation, William immediately took out the phone from her pants pocket.
Then, under her guidance, William opened an app and entered the woman's account password, quickly logging in.
William saw two switchable pages: one was the Assassin's Alliance, and the other was the bounty list used for taking missions. The list was filled with various amounts of assassination bounties.
"One page for the Assassin's Alliance, and one for the bounty list. Take a look for yourself," the short-haired woman said anxiously. If the organization found out that she let someone log into her account, it would undoubtedly be a gruesome death. However, at this moment, she had no other choice but to do so for the sake of her life.
"Indeed, a billion dollars. Sophia, I didn't expect your life to be so valuable," William turned around and said with a smile.
Meanwhile, Sophia was about to go mad. Being chased with a one-billion-dollar bounty on her head, she couldn't find any reason to laugh. Kylie and Fiona were even paler, as they never expected such a horrifying thing to exist in this world.
"Don't worry, with me here, they won't be able to kill you!" William said to Sophia seriously.
Sophia felt somewhat relieved when she saw William's gaze. On the other hand, William's eyes scanned the front of the bounty list. Although a reward of one billion dollars seemed high, it was only ranked 128th on the list. What William wanted to know now was Mr. Brown's identity and how much someone was willing to pay to have him assassinated, which even attracted the involvement of grandmaster-level experts.
William flipped through the bounty list and finally found the reward amount for assassinating Mr. Brown in the top ten positions. He was stunned when he saw the enormous sum of money.
