Chapter 394 The Shakedown?
Back from the Flood Boxing Guild, William was in his Peace Garden villa, mulling over the enigmatic Dragontooth Sword. The hilt was etched with cryptic symbols, and he could sense a potent energy within, though it felt restrained.
The energy felt akin to his own, which puzzled William. "Must be because of those Soothsayer Guild training manuals I've been studying," he mused, searching for an explanation.
As William delved into thoughts about the sword's origins, his phone rang. It was Delilah. She'd been a bit too persistent lately, but given his alliance with the Flood Boxing Guild, he couldn't just ignore her.
With a resigned sigh, William took the call. Delilah's voice, usually a melody, now struck a different chord.
"William, there's this new movie everyone's talking about. Wanna catch it with me?"
"What's the flick?" William thought a movie night might be the perfect breather for Michelle, especially with their face-off against Das Guild looming.
"It's 'Decisive Battle.' Heard the effects are mind-blowing," Delilah chirped.
"I'm swamped, Delilah. Enjoy it, though!" William replied curtly, hanging up and dialing Michelle instead. A movie date sounded like just the ticket.
"Sure, but can we bring Sophia and Arianna?" Michelle's voice came through, hopeful.
"Of course. I'll swing by soon."
William sighed inwardly. Since their engagement, he hadn't had a moment alone with Michelle—it was like his fiancée had hijacked his girlfriend.
Outside Kings University, Michelle, Sophia, and Arianna were turning heads. The trio's beauty drew unwanted suitors like moths to a flame, all swiftly dismissed by Arianna's no-nonsense attitude.
Just as they were growing restless, William's Ferrari pulled up, and he stepped out with a grin.
"William, finally!" Michelle beamed, rushing over.
Sophia's joy was more reserved, but her eyes shone just as brightly.
"What's the occasion for the movie outing?" she inquired.
"Thought you all could use a break from the books. Plus, there's this blockbuster..." William trailed off, gesturing to the car.
Michelle latched onto his arm, eager. "Let's hit the road. School's a drag—nothing but study, study, study."
They soon reached a nearby theater. Tickets in hand, they bumped into a familiar face.
"William, I thought you were too busy for movies?" Delilah stood there, an eyebrow raised, with Paisley by her side—a walking advertisement for high-end fashion.
William scrambled for an excuse, but Paisley piped up first.
"Delilah, this is him? He's so... plain. And those clothes? He looks broke. What do you see in him?"
"If you're not into him, leave him be. Besides, William's taken," Michelle snapped, her arm tightening around William's as they made for the theater doors.
But Delilah wasn't done. "Michelle, right? You're too fragile for William. I can give him a real platform, a future."
Delilah was playing the long game, aiming to keep William in the Flood Boxing Guild's corner, and perhaps her heart, too.
"William would never fall for someone like you!" Michelle tossed over her shoulder, pulling William into the theater.
Sophia and Arianna followed, leaving Delilah to watch them disappear with a tinge of regret.
"Delilah, you're into this average Joe?" Paisley's curiosity was piqued. "He must have something going for him, dating a looker like that."
"He's got talent, but that's about it," Delilah replied, still watching William and Michelle.
"A nobody? No cash, no clout, but he's got her. Weird. Maybe he's got skills?" Paisley's interest was clearly more than casual; she was intrigued by the challenge.
Delilah was at a loss for words.
"I've got an idea to snag him. Want to hear it?" Paisley offered with a sly grin, confident in her man-wrangling prowess.
Delilah hesitated, knowing Paisley's reputation. "I'll pass on your 'methods,'" she said, turning towards the cinema, then pausing. "But go on, I'm listening."
Paisley whispered her plan, leaving Delilah blushing furiously!
Later that evening, William dropped Michelle and her friends off at their dorm before returning to Peace Garden. Vivian was waiting with a stack of documents.
"William, here's the lowdown on Das Guild you asked for," she said, handing him the summary.
"Just hit me with the highlights. What do we need to watch out for?" William asked, eyeing the thick stack with little interest in a deep dive.
Vivian briefed him on the key points, including a century-old ancestor who'd emerged after two decades of seclusion, likely to be a thorn in their side during the upcoming challenge.
William's confidence wavered. This old-timer had been a force to reckon with even twenty years ago.
He paced the room, his mind racing for a solution until a memory clicked. "That's it! Camden gave me two bottles of the Riordan family's secret tonic. It's like a performance booster. Short-term gain for long-term pain, though."
Grabbing his phone, William called Sharon, instructing her to retrieve the tonic from their New York gym. "With that tonic, I might just stand a chance against that old-timer."
