Chapter 184 What of the Richest Man's Son?
Seeing that the situation was settled, William walked towards Scaley.
"Scaley, do you still think I plan need to run now?" he asked.
Scaley was also shocked at this point, realizing that the power of this poor man seemed to exceed his imagination. He could effortlessly command influential figures like Vicente from the East district, indicating that he had some background.
"William, don't get too cocky. It's not certain who will win or lose!" Scaley would not easily accept defeat. He turned his head to the figure dressed in black, Vicente, and spoke loudly.
"Is that Vicente? My father happens to be the richest man in New York. If you still want to survive in the East district, it's best for you to step aside."
Scaley was using his father to threaten Vicente, but after mixing in the East district for over twenty years, how could Vicente be afraid? Apart from Antony, he had never been submissive to anyone in New York. Even if Mr. Parker came, Vicente would not yield.
"Quit babbling. Even if your father, Rodrigo, comes, I won't budge." Vicente shouted loudly, completely infuriating Scaley.
"Vicente, you have courage. Just wait. When I return, I will crush you." Scaley stomped his feet, angrily shouting. He hadn't expected Vicente to underestimate him like this.
Scaley's barrage of insults had actually provoked Vicente, his face turning pale with anger. He swiftly walked over and slapped Scaley's face, coldly saying, "Here, I am right in front of you right now. Give it a try."
Scaley held his slapped face, his eyes filled with fear. He now had no choice but to back down. Under normal circumstances, he would have been arrogant.
"Vicente, disable Scaley's subordinates for me, then take him away," William said calmly. Previously, they were in a hurry and hadn't had a chance to thoroughly investigate Scaley's assets. Since he was the son of the richest man in New York, he must have considerable assets.
They could acquire them first, and William also wanted to see how important the wealthy Rodrigo considered his second son to be. Perhaps he could use this to obtain more assets.
"Alright, Mr. Brown," Vicente responded.
However, this conversation put fear into Scaley, who shouted angrily.
"How dare you? My father owns a security company with 500 employees. If you want to mess with me, wait till my father takes revenge for me!"
"Sorry about that," said Vicente, waving his hand. Immediately, the more than one hundred subordinates he brought with him began to beat up Agustin's security team.
"Vicente, if you touch my people, I will make you regret it." Seeing this, Agustin became furious. How could he stand by and watch Vicente beat up his people?
Immediately, Agustin clenched his fist and rushed towards Vicente, who naturally wouldn't back down and engaged him in a fight.
Seeing that the situation was not in his favor, Scaley started thinking about escaping. Taking advantage of the cover of the night, he stealthily walked towards his Maserati sports car. Just as he was about to open the car door and get in, a cold voice came from behind him.
"Scaley, where do you think you're going?" William sneered, taking a step forward and grabbing Scaley by the collar.
"You want to run? You don't even have an escape route. I let you off once before, but you were not satisfied and brought people to ambush me. If I don't teach you a lesson today, you will continue to think I'm easy to bully."
As William spoke, he grabbed Scaley and started walking towards a nearby area. He found a rope on the ground and tied Scaley's hands behind his back, not caring about his broken arm.
"William, I was wrong. I really know it this time. I won't dare anymore. How about I give you one million dollars as compensation?" Scaley had no other choice but to beg for mercy and offer money in an attempt to persuade William to let him go.
"One million dollars? Is that how much the son of New York's richest man thinks his life is worth?" William raised an eyebrow and sneered.
Scaley harbored hatred towards William, but now that he was in his grasp, he had no choice but to submit. He gritted his teeth and said,
"Fine, I'll give you five million dollars. That should be enough, right? Let me go quickly, and I'll have someone get you the money immediately. I promise I won't ever bother you again."
Scaley thought that he could buy his way out with money, but he was being far too naive. William wanted more than just money. Scaley had brought upon himself the wrath of Death himself.
"I'm not interested in money," William said as he carried Scaley away. He tore a large piece of fabric from Scaley's clothes and gagged his mouth to prevent him from babbling.
Scaley tried to protest with a muffled sound of "mhmhm," but it was in vain.
Soon enough, the fight on the other side had ended. Resulting in Agustin being captured by Vicente, and his subordinates all lying on the ground, wailing in pain.
"Vicente, thank you for this! Scaley is in your hands now, and it's up to you to take care of him."
"Guard him well for me, Vicente. This person is of great value!" William said, handing Scaley over to Vicente for safekeeping. Once the opportunity arises to investigate the Watson family's assets, he would make a decision.
"Rest assured, Mr. Brown, I will take good care of Scaley," Vicente replied firmly.
With everything settled, William helped Michelle back into the car. Her complexion was still pale, and Willliam was full of concern for her.
"Michelle, are you alright?!"
"I feel better after throwing up. I was really scared just now. Thank goodness you were there for me," Michelle patted her chest, still shaken by the recent events.
"Let me take you home!" William started the engine, and the car slowly pulled out from the abandoned ancient temple.
On the way back, William maintained a steady speed, neither too fast nor too slow, fearing that Michelle might get motion sickness and feel uncomfortable.
By the time they returned to the villa, it was almost dawn. Michelle was tired and sleepy, and she dozed off in the passenger seat!
William saw her fall asleep and didn't dare to disturb her. He gently lifted her by the waist and carried her towards the villa.
However, just as they approached the doorstep, Michelle, half awake, started mumbling in her sleep.
"When will you marry me, William?"
Upon hearing this, William's body stiffened slightly. When to marry Michelle was a question even he couldn't answer!
If he was still the poor person he used to be, he wouldn't be able to protect Michelle at all, just like what happened tonight. If he were still in his previous circumstances, Scaley probably would've taken her away, and she might have been damaged by now.
But now he was the wealthy heir of The Browns' Property, and although he had enough power and wealth to protect Michelle, there was the issue of his engagement and the fact that the Smith family was also a prominent family in the country. To marry Michelle openly and legitimately was truly harder than reaching the sky, but William wouldn't give up.
"Give me some more time, I will definitely marry you," William whispered softly in Michelle's ear, unsure if she could hear him.
Inside the villa, as soon as William carried Michelle in, he saw her parents sitting on the sofa, waiting anxiously. It seemed they were worried about Michelle as well. Luckily, William had brought her back safely, which eased their concerns a little.
"William, what happened to Michelle? She wouldn't answer her phone," Katharine asked with a concerned look on her face.
"We spent the day out and had a late-night snack. Well, she fell asleep.
"It's too late for that!" William didn't want to tell them the truth, afraid that they would worry.
"It's so late, why don't you just stay outside and give us a call to put our minds at ease?" Noad approached, trying to please.
Katharine glared at Noad. Other fathers would treat their daughters like precious treasures, but he seemed to want to hand his daughter over to William every day.
"William, come over for dinner tomorrow. I have something to discuss with you," Noad suddenly remembered an important matter. But it was too late now and he didn't want to waste any more resting time, so he planned to invite William over tomorrow to discuss it.
"Alright, uncle, I will definitely come tomorrow. You all rest now, and I'll also be heading back," William bid them farewell and left, going to Oak Bay, which was closer, to sleep.
Meanwhile, in New York, the wealthiest man, Rodrigo, was awakened by an urgent matter from his subordinate.
With thick eyebrows and big eyes, slightly overweight Rodrigo rushed out in his pajamas and arrived at the hall of his villa. A bruised and swollen man stood anxiously there, and this man was Agustin.
"Why are you bothering me so late?" Rodrigo, annoyed at being awakened from his sleep, asked in frustration.
"Scaley was taken by Vicente from the East district," Agustin replied tremblingly, seeming afraid that Rodrigo would blame him.
"What? Scaley was taken? Vicente has some nerve!" Rodrigo angrily slammed the coffee table in front of him, furious that someone dared to capture his son in New York. It was like seeking death.
"Tell me the details quickly, or I'll break your legs," Rodrigo clenched his fist. Someone in New York dared to kidnap his son, it was clear that this matter was not simple.
"Yes, yes." Agustin dared not hide anything and reported in detail what he knew to Rodrigo.
After listening, Rodrigo leaned back on the couch and pondered carefully.
"Are you saying that Scaley was captured all because of someone named William? He's the one who ordered Vicente to take Scaley?" Rodrigo said incredulously.
Rodrigo knew Vicente, he used to be Antony's subordinate. In recent years, he had done quite well in the East district with Antony's support. Only Antony could give orders to Vicente. Now, to his surprise, Vicente was obeying a young man in his twenties. It left him puzzled.
"That's indeed the case. Vicente seems to obey every command of this bastard called William and even disrespects you," Agustin said nervously.
"What's the intention of this William...?"
"Head? He can actually command someone like Vicente." Rodrigo squinted his eyes and analyzed carefully. He could sit in the position of the richest man in New York, so naturally, he was not a fool.
Before understanding the relationship, Rodrigo would not act rashly.
"I have investigated William. It seems he is a department manager of High Culture, from a poor area, and has no power to command Vicente." Agustin thought for a moment and reported honestly.
"A department manager from a poor area in charge of a cultural entertainment company?" Rodrigo was slightly surprised. If this information was correct, William, with his abilities, would be unable to command Vicente.
Could it be that he sought Antony's help? The only person in New York who can command Vicente is Antony. Even a normal person could analyze it to this extent.
"Agustin, tomorrow you and Victor go find Vicente. Bring more people with you." Rodrigo wanted to test the other side. Recently, Antony has been in the limelight and even merged the market in the North district. He didn't want to offend him if he could avoid it.
But if push came to shove, Rodrigo wouldn't be afraid of Antony either.
"Alright, I'll go arrange it immediately." After receiving the order, Agustin immediately left.
The next day, around noon, William was awakened by a series of phone calls.
It was Vicente calling, and he had called several times in a row, indicating that the situation was urgent.
After opening his eyes, William quickly answered the call.
"Mr. Brown, the Watson family has surrounded my club with over two hundred people. They are demanding Scaley. What should we do?" Vicente's voice on the other end of the phone was urgent.
"Don't panic, hold them off for now. We have Scaley in our hands, so we have the upper hand. There's no need to be afraid!" William did not expect Rodrigo to approach Vicente looking for Scaley so soon, and he even deployed a security team of two hundred people. This showed that Rodrigo still valued his second son. This made things easier.
He could negotiate a good price with him now, and William's lips curled slightly.
