Chapter 237 Crushing You All
After Antony arrived on Long Island, he didn't idle around.
He immediately set up a branch for WE ARE Chamber, publicly announcing Mr. Brown's connection. Individuals and businesses seeking his investment quickly flocked to his doorstep.
With Ralph's support, WE ARE Chamber swiftly became a hot investment company on Long Island. The chairpersons of major family-owned enterprises were especially diligent in pursuing investment opportunities.
After chatting with Xavier and Dominic, William finally learned that WE ARE Chamber was highly sought after on Long Island. This came as a surprise to him. Antony was indeed very capable.
However, in response to Dominic's questioning, William smiled and said, "There's no need to call Boss Jones to verify!"
"Why? Are you simply bluffing?" Dominic was determined to make William look foolish.
"Yes, yes, I agree with Dominic. Rejecting a five billion dollar investment, isn't that a joke? I don't believe it. How can someone like you, a poor person, receive an investment from Boss Jones?" Xavier, sitting beside them, chimed in. They had always been the proud ones, excelling in academics during school and becoming bosses in their careers.
However, it's a pity that they encountered someone like William who doesn't play by the rules.
"I'm not unwilling to verify. I'm just afraid you'll embarrass yourselves and make everyone feel awkward," William reminded them. It's so simple to find Antony to cooperate and stage a scene, but it would affect the confidence of these two proud individuals.
"No worries, we're not afraid. As long as you're not afraid of embarrassment," Dominic said with a laugh. The more William made excuses, the more Dominic believed that his judgment was correct- William was just bluffing.
Xavier, on the other hand, approached Julia's father, Oscar.
"Uncle Oscar, do you think it's necessary for William to call Boss Jones personally to verify?"
Oscar nodded and said tactfully, "William, why don't you make a phone call to greet Boss Jones? We don't need to take it too seriously. Then we can all enjoy our meal together."
Oscar's intention couldn't be any clearer - he also wanted William to verify what he said.
At this point, Julia couldn't bear it anymore. Maybe she also thought that William was just bluffing, but at least William had stood up for her in the face of danger.
"Let it go, let it go. Let's just have a meal. William, let's start eating. I fried these chicken legs myself," Julia said, serving William a fried chicken leg.
"This isn't about comparing or competing but about teaching certain individuals not to boast if they don't have the ability, or else they'll suffer in the future. It's for their own good," Dominic remarked coldly.
"Yes, yes, Dominic is right. One should be genuine and practical. What's the point of pretending if you don't have the skills?" Xavier chimed in.
Hearing this, William couldn't help but sneer inwardly. It seemed like these two needed a lesson.
"Since everyone thinks I'm bluffing, I'll call Boss Jones right now. But first, I'll go to the restroom," William said. In the washroom, he dialed Antony's number and quietly instructed him to cooperate with his performance, explaining the details to him.
William worked in program production, so he was naturally skilled in acting.
While William arranged Antony's impromptu script in the restroom, Xavier and Dominic were engaged in conversation with Michelle at the dining table.
"Michelle, I don't think someone like William, who has no money or power but loves to brag, is worthy of you." Dominic took the opportunity to strike up a conversation with Michelle.
Speaking of this, Linda couldn't help but persuade.
"Yeah, Michelle, look at Dominic and Xavier. They are much better than William. Shouldn't you consider them?"
Michelle frowned slightly. She could tell that Linda was clearly acting on her mother's orders, trying to find a way to separate her from William. And these two young talents, Xavier and Dominic, were intentionally brought here by Linda, which made her very unhappy.
Just then, William came out of the bathroom and returned to the dining table. Xavier, Dominic, and the others were waiting to expose William's lies, making sure he couldn't get away with it.
"Dominic, right? Dial Boss Jones's number. Let's make a call to him right now."
To make the performance look more convincing, William thought it would be best to use Dominic's phone to make the call. It would have the greatest effect, and they would find it more believable.
"Sure, I'll dial Boss Jones's number for you." Dominic quickly took out his phone and dialed Antony's number. He was eager to see William in an embarrassing position.
The others felt a sense of anticipation.
The phone rang several times before being answered. When William took the phone from Dominic, his act began.
"Hello, Boss Jones! It's William."
"You finally called me." Antony's voice came through the phone, and everyone present pricked up their ears to listen, especially Xavier and Dominic.
"Yeah, I called you to ask if you've eaten." William glanced at the anxious expressions, secretly sneering.
"I haven't eaten yet, I've been too busy recently. Have you eaten?" Antony recited the lines William had previously instructed him to say.
"Oh, by the way, have you considered the $5 billion investment I mentioned last time for your independent network production company? What do you think?"
Upon hearing this, Xavier, Dominic, and Oscar at the dining table had shocked expressions. The fact that this poor man, William, was actually speaking the truth, made their faces turn unpleasant.
But the interesting part was yet to come. William seemed to be struggling and said, "Boss Jones, it's really difficult for me to give up 20% of the shares for $5 billion. Let me think about it!"
Then a rather eager and pleasing voice came from the other end of the phone.
"You can think about it. 15% of the shares will do too."
Before Antony could finish his sentence, William hung up the call.
"Boss Jones is really shameless. He wants to take a 20% stake in my new company for just five billion dollars. It's ridiculous!" William complained.
His words hit Xavier and Dominic like a blow, and they were shocked to find that what William said was true. He wasn't bragging.
"How is this possible?" Xavier and Dominic felt like fools, thinking they had accomplished something and wanting to show off in front of William. Little did they know that William could crush them with just a nod.
Their faces turned sour.
Oscar was shocked too. He never expected this poor man to be so capable. He immediately called out to his wife, Linda. "Order two more dishes."
