Chapter 132 The Mall as a Battlefield
After leaving the hospital, William drove Michelle to Noad's company to fill in for him at work. Their main task was to keep an eye on a board member named Bence.
This person had been trying to replace Noad as the company's chairman and had repeatedly plotted against him. Fortunately, Noad managed to resolve these issues, barely holding onto his position as chairman.
"William, where should we start? I'm not very familiar with the affairs of the company," Michelle expressed her concern.
"Don't worry, I'm here!" William believed that the most direct and effective approach would be to acquire Bence's shares and drive him out of the board. Other methods would consume too much time and energy.
Of course, if they wanted to acquire his shares with the least amount of money, they would need some tactics!
Soon, they arrived at Wilson's Hotel's company, a twelve-story building entirely owned by Wilson's Hotel. It was evident that Noad's company was quite large.
When they entered, the security guards didn't stop them. It seemed like they recognized Michelle. Each of them greeted her respectfully, which surprised William.
"Do you come here often?" William couldn't help but ask curiously.
"Yes, I've been working here for a while, and they all know me. Let's go in!" Michelle said, holding William's arm affectionately with a smile on her face. "I'll take you to my dad's little treasure trove. He's got some really good stuff hidden there."
"That's not a good idea! Your dad will blame me if he finds out," William said, feeling a bit speechless. This daughter is quite a handful!
"You'll see once you look inside. I promise you'll like it," Michelle said, linking her arm with William's and leading him straight in.
Meanwhile, Bence was in the deputy general manager's office. He was looking at some documents when his assistant Patrick excitedly burst in.
"Bence, great news! Great news!"
"Why didn't you knock before coming in?" Bence asked, putting down the documents with a displeased expression.
"Noad is sick and hospitalized. His daughter will handle all the business affairs," Patrick whispered to Bence, closing the office door behind him.
"Is that so? Is this news confirmed? Is there an official letter of appointment?" Bence felt a hint of joy, as this was indeed good news. Lately, Noad had been suppressing him, making it hard for him to do anything. This was a great opportunity!
"Yes, the administrative department has received a personally signed letter of appointment from the chairman, entrusting his daughter with full authority," Bence said, handing a copy of the appointment letter to Bence.
After scanning through the letter, Bence's lips curled up with a smile.
"Excellent! Has his daughter arrived?" Bence's eyes darted around. He had seen Michelle before. She was beautiful, a rare beauty. However, she lacked the cunning of the business world and had limited social experience, making her an easy target.
"She just came in, but she's accompanied by a guy, probably her boyfriend," Patrick speculated.
"Boyfriend? I suppose he can't be too old. Go and test the waters first, see if there's an opportunity," Bence suggested after some thought.
"Bence, why not test their capabilities with that $200 million loan contract?" Patrick suddenly suggested.
"Alright, go ahead!" Bence didn't hesitate. It was just a test. If it worked out, great. If not, he had other tricks up his sleeve waiting for her.
Following the orders, Patrick went straight to Samuel's office!
Meanwhile, Michelle and William were in a concealed room in the chairman's office, looking at Noad's alleged treasure trove.
"Liquor bottles?" William looked at the rows of wine cabinets in the hidden room. He was somewhat surprised. He never expected Noad to have collected so much alcohol.
Though the room wasn't large, it was filled with various expensive and rare wines. A rough count revealed at least two to three hundred bottles.
"Yeah, my dad, just like my grandfather, loves collecting. But instead of art, he collects wine. These are all rare and valuable wines from around the world. The most expensive bottle here is worth over ten million dollars," Michelle said, pointing from a corner.
Michelle took out a bottle of liquor and proudly showed it to William.
"This bottle of Icelandic whisky, my dad told me he bought it for over six million dollars. I wanted to taste it, but he wouldn't let me. Let's drink it while he's not here!" Michelle said, looking for something to open the bottle.
William was surprised. A whisky worth over six million dollars? He also wanted to taste it. It must have some age to it, he thought.
However, before they could find something to open the bottle, someone entered the small room from the CEO's office.
"Someone seems to be looking for you outside," William whispered.
"We'll take it home and drink it tonight. After all, it's just the two of us at home!" Michelle seemed to have a special fondness for this bottle of Icelandic whisky.
"Alright, let's focus on our work for now!" William nodded.
The two of them then walked out of the small room and into the CEO's office, where someone was indeed waiting for them. It was the CFO, Samuel.
"Miss, you're here. I have a few financial reports here that need your signature," Samuel said, handing the documents to Michelle.
Michelle seemed to know Samuel and trusted him. After all, during her time working here, her dad, Noad, also trusted Samuel, and that trust extended to Michelle.
"Give me the documents," Michelle said as she took the financial reports. She noticed that there were quite a few pages and it would take some time to go through them properly. She skimmed a few pages and saw that they were indeed financial reports. She signed her name on them.
Besides, she didn't really understand these financial reports.
"Alright," Michelle said after signing and tried to return the documents to Samuel. However, he pushed his glasses up and took a few steps closer to Michelle. He flipped through a few pages and pointed to an empty corner.
"You need to sign here as well," he said.
"Sorry, I missed that," Michelle said and signed her name where Samuel indicated. "Now it should be good!"
"Yeah, I'll leave now!" Samuel took the signed documents and turned to leave. But just as he was about to reach the door, William suddenly called him back.
"Wait, bring me the documents. I want to take a look!" With Samuel appearing so nervous, William felt something was off and wanted to check the documents.
"I'm sorry, these are our company's financial reports. They're classified and can't be shown to outsiders," Samuel refused directly.
"William is not an outsider, hurry up and show him!" Michelle didn't notice anything unusual and simply thought that William wanted to see the financial reports.
As she spoke, William had already stood up and approached Samuel.
"All right then!" Samuel reluctantly handed the documents in his hand to William. After taking them, William immediately flipped them open and carefully read through each page. When he came across a piece of paper tucked inside, his brow furrowed because it was signed by Michelle.
"Why is there a piece of white paper here? And it's signed by Michelle," William questioned with a grave expression, pulling the paper out from the stack of documents.
If someone with malicious intent were to use this signed paper, the consequences would be severe, especially since Michelle represented the company now.
"Perhaps there was an issue with the printing. I'll go reprint it," Samuel said, intending to leave, but William grabbed his collar.
Indeed, this shopping mall was a battlefield. It had only been half a day since Michelle arrived and she almost fell victim to someone's scheme. Luckily, William discovered it in time.
"Michelle, close the door!" William called for Michelle to close the door. Reciprocating the offense was only fair, and it was time to give this person named Bence a taste of his own medicine.
